competencies associated with it. This is a simple inventory based upon those
competencies. Address each of the questions below by circling the number that best
applies. Use the following scale when choosing the number:

1 = Not at all
2 = Slightly
3 = Somewhat
4 = Very
5 = Completely
(The desired number has been colored red.)

Adapted from Mintzberg, H. (1973). The nature of managerial work. New York, NY:
Harper & Row.

 As per the total scores, I ended up with having the highest scores in the roles of
disseminator, entrepreneur and disturbance handler.
 Therefore, the three categories which I am choosing for discussion are
disseminator, entrepreneur and disturbance handler.
 As far as my competencies are concerned, I am highly competent in roles of
monitor, resource allocator and negotiator.
 Monitor- I think that I am highly competent as a monitor because I have the ability
of seeking information through various sources.
 Resource Allocator- I can allocate resources very efficiently to ensure that they
end up in the right hands.
 Negotiator- I can take the responsibility of representing the organization in
various negotiations, which would be crucial for the growth of the organization.

The ways in which I can improve my current skillset are:

 I will improve upon my entrepreneurial competencies by being more creative and

identifying opportunities to advance the organization. For this, I need to improve
upon skills such as critical thinking and broad perspective.
 I will try to inculcate in myself, crisis management skills such as courage, patience
and ability to think logically even in critical situations, to be competent in the role
of a disturbance handler.
 I will work upon my management and leadership skills to improve my competency as
a disseminator. I also need to have clear vision of thought to determine which
information is to be passed on and which not.
