WORLD
OF
INTERIOR S
Home designing as a subject, has evolved since centuries. When we think of ‘home’,
the mind traces the undulating contours of memories and experiences. The
memory of textures, and colours; of light and shade; of smells and sounds become
the intangible notions of what makes a ‘home.’ Homes make up layers of nostalgia
embedded in experiences. The touch of a coarse fabric against the smooth surface of
the wall, or of the sunlight filtered on finished floor becomes a unique experience
of space.
The competition is open to participants creating new designs for the brief; or
uploading projects/assignments they might have done earlier in their academic
or professional careers. We urge Students, Interior Designers, Architects & Firms
to unwind back, and think through their earlier projects, and ask if their designs
address the above mentioned ideas of interior designs.
With creating something as sacred, and personal as a ‘home’, we seek designers who
celebrate the confrontations between man and space. We believe that home interiors are
more than just defining spaces as living rooms and bedrooms, or designating spaces for
sofa sets and beds. They are spaces of emotion and a state of mind. Interior design of any
home is more than just the standard layouts in plan. They have an inherent relationship
with everything around them. We thus seek designs of interior spaces that treat interiors
with empathy and respect, effectively merging aspects of aesthetics, environments, and
people with design.
GUIDELINES:
We leave the choice of the house typology to the participants. Be it an apartment, a villa,
a condo, or any space fitting into the definition of a ‘home’, participants are welcome to
submit their designs.
The competition welcomes any projects that participants may have done in the past,
ones actually executed; or just conceptualized. Accordingly, the freedom of site
selection, scale of the building, proportion of the built form to open space, distribution
of interior areas and all other aspects of functionality, are left to participants’
appropriate judgement and discretion.
Bearing in mind the area constraints, and spatiality of the space, designers are welcome
to explore their creative abilities and create novel approaches to the conceptual
enlivening of the space, as a ‘home’.
