01. Major Features

The “Solstice Programmer” possesses three major functions:

1. Program a group of predefined files from SD card into Nand-Flash. Namely,

redboot.bin, zImage and rootfs.jffs2.

2. Communication check feature is to verify successful communication to the

Solstice is established.

02. Instructions for using Solstice Programmer

A. Creating a SD card with predefined boot files
In order to create a SD card with predefined boot files please follow these simple
steps:
 Format SD card (Follow screenshot instructions)
i. Go to My Computer.
ii. Locate the SD card.
iii. Right Click on the SD card.
iv. Select Format.
 v. Ensure that the File System is FAT32
vi. Ensure that the Allocation Unit size is: Default.
vii. Press Start

 Placing files in SD card

i. Copy these files redboot.bin, zImage and rootfs.jffs2 from C: Drive.
ii. Place them in the SD card.
This card can be reused to program all units.
B. Programming Solstice Board from SD card (predefined files).
1. Insert SD card into Solstice Board card slot.
2. Setup Boot jumper in program mode. (Appendix 2)

3. Connect your workstation to the Solstice Board using a Serial connector.

4. Run Solstice Programmer on your Windows XP Workstation.

5. Turn on the power supply to the Solstice board.

6. Wait for 10 seconds.

7. Press button of <COPY IMAGES FROM SD TO NAND FLASH> and wait for
the flashing light to go green. Usually it will take 3-4 minutes to program a unit.
8. When you see the screen below the loading of boot files is successful.
 03. Known issues with this Release
If you get this screen then you must reset the power to the device by turning the power
supply on and off.
The above screen means that the program connected to the Solstice Board but failed to
recognize the SD Card.

04. Troubleshooting
In order to troubleshoot, please Press the COMCHECK button.
If you get this message:
Check if all the cables are connected and whether you are in programming mode, because
the program was unable to find the Solstice board.
