As you are aware the Novel CoronaVirus Disease (COVID-19) has now spread to more than 103
countries causing more than 106,800 cases and more than 3600 deaths worldwide. The World Health
Organization (WHO) on 30th January, 2020 declared this outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of
International Concern (PHEIC). Though, WHO has not yet declared it to be a pandemic, it has advised
countries to remain prepared for one.
2. Several confirmed cases have also been detected in India. Although, Government is taking all steps
necessary to prevent further importation of such cases and to also prevent local transmission of this
disease in India, it will be prudent to raise community awareness about common signs and symptoms of
this disease and advocate simple public health measures, the community may undertake to prevent
infection.
3. Therefore, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has strongly emphasized to
disseminate pertinent information to the community through all channels of communication and from all
possible vantage points. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have designed posters & Audio Video
products, some of which are being sent along with this letter. Soft copies of these are available on
Ministry’s website (https://mohfw.gov.in/node/4904). You are requested to widely disseminate the same.
4. You are also requested to ask your members to display these materials at all pharmacy shops and
medicine retail outlets.
5. It would be highly appreciated if these materials are also displayed at any other points of larger
footfalls.
6. Considering the importance, you are requested to personally monitor that, mechanisms are in place
for successful dissemination of these messages to maximum number of consumers.

We, The Tamil Nadu Chemists and Druggists Association, is more than 50 years old trade Association,
consists of 40,000 members, functioning for the benefits and interest of the Pharmaceuticals Retails and
Wholesalers.
We thank you for your wonderful governance throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic containment activities
and your able reach towards the supply of essentials to each and every citizens of Tamilnadu.
At the outset, we are also servicing the humanity by supplying essential medicines and medical devices to
the citizens of Tamilnadu under the able guidance of the Health and Drug Department and we have the
following recurring problems in the services:
1. Our employees are facing difficulty in commuting to the premises.
2. The supply chain is highly affected as our delivery people are being harassed at several police booths
and their vehicles have been ceased without valid reasons and even after showing valid Passes, RC
Book, Driving Licenses etc.,
3. The delivery people are facing difficulty on returning from their duty of delivering stocks to the patients,
customers, stockiest as they do not have stocks of medicines while returning.
In the absence of regulation with proper identification passes, our member is expressing their inabilities to
their shops and carryout the selling of medicines. We shall be grateful to our Honorable Chief Minister, if
necessary order in this regard is given to all concern to movement of owners and staffs without any difficulties,
hurdles. But in forthcoming days, there may be shortage of medicines, due to this hurdles, the supply of
medicines is facing different types of problems, which is disrupting the supply of medicines to all 38 Districts.
We humbly request you to take appropriate decisions on the above subjects and will take the trouble to
ensure immediate action.

and cough syrups procured and sold by our 40,000 Chemists and Druggists.
At the same time we would like to bring to your notice that Paracetamol tablets and other covid-19 related
drugs are also freely available in online portals. We enclosed the proof for sale also. Paracetamol tablet are
available even in petty shops, Grocery shops, departmental stores. FMCG suppliers are supplies the particular
drug to all above mentioned shops. There is possibility of patients can give the wrong information about the

Novel Corona Virus Infection 2019 - nCoV
Corona Virus
v Corona Virus infection causes fever, cough, myalgia and difficulty in
breathing in humans.
v Outbreak of novel Corona virus infection has occurred in Wuhan province
of China. It is suspected to have spread to humans from animals.
Disease Symptoms
v Fever, Cough
v Myalgia
v Difficulty in breathing

Disease transmission
v Disease spreads from person-to-person directly through respiratory
droplets produced when an infected person coughs and sneezes.
v People also become infected by touching surfaces of hand railings of
staircases and elevators, door handles, armrests of chairs, table surfaces
and other surfaces like ticket counters contaminated by droplets generated
by coughing or sneezing and then touching their mouth or nose or eyes.
Preventing measures
v Frequent washing of hands with soap and water for atleast 30 seconds
every time.
v To cover the face by a clean hand kerchief during coughing or sneezing.
v Children below 3 years and people above 70 years should stay away from
public gatherings and overcrowded places.
v Standard disinfection practices should be followed in all Health care
facilities.
Treatment
v If you have symptoms like fever, cough, myalgia or breathlessness, visit
the nearby Primary Health Centre or Government Hospital at the earliest.
v Plenty of oral fluids particularly rice kanji with salt, tender coconut water,
ORS solution are recommended.

v People are advised to avoid visiting China.
v People with fever, cough, cold and breathing difficulty are advised to
stay away from public gatherings and overcrowded places.
v If the people who visited China recently develop symptoms like fever,
cough or breathlessness they should report to nearby Primary Health
Centres or Government Hospitals.
v Eat only throughly cooked food, especially meat.
v 30 plus age group people should check their blood pressure and sugar
levels.
