of paper and a ballpen.

B. Analysis

What have you noticed in the

advertisement?
What information does it provide?
Categorize each of them according to
the WH questions. (students’ answer may vary)

C. Abstraction

Question words are known as WH –

Questions. How are they formed?

Examples:
1. Who are joining the contest?
2. What is the advertisement all
about?
3. When will it be held?
4. Where will it be held?
5. What are the details in the
advertisement?

What have the sentences in common?

Expected answers:
WH-questions are formed by Sentences start in WH-questions.
inserting wh-words in place of the Sentences have verbs.
missing information. They all end in question mark.
WH-questions focus on a particular
part of the sentences.
WH-questions ask for information
and we do not expect a yes-no
answer.

We usually form WH-questions with

WH-+ an auxiliary verb (be, do or
have) + subject + main verb or with
WH-+ a modal verb + subject + main
verb.

Examples:
When are you leaving?
Why didn't you call me?
Where do they live?
Where should I park?

twenty.
How long did you stay in the hotel? Ten
minutes.
How often do you go to the gym? Twice a
week.
How far is your school? It's one mile far.
How old are you? I'm 16.
