My Career Goals
Connecting and Engaging
Connecting and engaging with others is a
crucial part of being a teacher. Being able to ask
and respond to any questions of the parents and
their children is vital. Also, being supportive
and encouraging is a great skill to motivate
students.
Generating/Developing Ideas
When creating a course, lesson plan, or class
schedule, it is important that you are able to
generate and develop strong ideas. Teachers
also need to be constantly learning and building
off of their ideas to keep things new and
exciting.
Analyzing/Critiquing
Being able to analyze and critique something
well is a valuable skill as a teacher, especially
when it comes to marking a students work. This
is also quite important when a teacher is
creating a rubric, because they should be able to
identify the importance of different criteria.
Using Personal Strengths
Understanding your personal skills and abilities
is another ability that is essential for any career.
Recognizing what areas you are stronger or
weaker in, allows you to know when you need to
seek help and when you can offer up assistance.
Self Determination
Work ethic are motivation are other skills that
will help you to excel in any career. If you feel
accomplishment through your job, you will
likely produce better work results.
Valuing Diversity
In any classroom, you are bound to experience
diversity of beliefs, races, life experiences, etc.
Being able to demonstrate respectful and
inclusive behaviour to each student is an
extremely important core competency to
possess.
Building Relationships

As a teacher, you need to be able to form

healthy relationships with the students,
parents, and teaching staff. Also, forming
connections with others may open up doors to
other possible careers.
