1. Introducion

The Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE) is empowered to

establish and operate a national conformity assessment system under article 5
sub article 1 of the “Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise Establishment
Council of Ministers Regulation No. 196/2010”.

Accordingly the Certification Directorate which is one of the functions of the

ECAE is mandated to discharge all the responsibilities associated with
management system certification in line with the provisions of this regulation.
ECAE Certification is an independent third-party management system
certification and it does not, at any stage, provide consultancy services or
training for the establishment of management systems. It provides management
system certification services based on its defined scopes of certification. The
scope of certification of a company registered with ECAE CD specifies the
range of that company's assessed capability & conformance to the nominated
standard.

2. Strategy and process

The value of ECAE management system Certification is the degree of public

confidence and trust which is established by customer focus, the integrity of its
leadership, operating principles as well as impartial and competent
assessments.

2.1 Vision and Mission

Vision
Our vision is to become Ethiopia's number one internationally
recognized competent national certification body. Impartiality and
customer focus are our guiding principles and our success depends
on honesty, courtesy and professionalism leading to the consistent
delivery of a high level of management system certification service.

Mission
Our mission is to certify management systems in a way which adds
value to the public and the industry that ensures the highest level of
quality products and services.

2.2 The ECAE management system Certification

The main service of ECAE management system Certification is the
certification of management systems at Ethiopian companies. At the
beginning, the following management systems will be certified.
ISO 9001 - Quality management system
ISO 14001 - Environmental management systems
ISO 22000 - Food safety management systems
The key processes for the delivery of these services are:-
- Audit application
- Preliminary audit (adequacy audit)
- Certification audit
- Surveillance audit and
- Recertification audit.

2.3 Our Policy

ECAE management system Certification is committed to become an
internationally recognized management system certification which
consistently meets customers and stakeholders requirements through
continual improvement. Competence, impartiality, confidentiality,
openness, responsibility, responsiveness to complaints and risk based
thinking are core operating principles which we commit ourselves to.
We commit ourselves to the establishment, implementation,
maintenance and continual improvement of an accredited management
system based on the international requirements for certification bodies,
namely ISO/IEC 17021, ISO/IEC 14001and ISO/TS 22003.

2.4 Our Goals and Quality Objectives.

Our goal is to enhance and support both domestic and international
trade through providing an accredited and therefore internationally
accepted management system certification of products and services
which will be carried out in line with the defined scopes of accreditation.
This goal will be achieved by implementing management system best
practices and ensuring continual improvement with our organization.

Quality objectives which will be measured regularly will be:

 to maintain and improve the management system established at
ECAE management system Certification according to the
standards ISO/ICE 17021,ISO/IEC14001 and ISO/TS 22003.
 to certify all local applicant companies to ISO 9001, ISO14001,
and ISO/TS22003 within the scope of ECAE system Certification
accreditation.

3 Certification logo (Mark)

The ECAE management system Certification logo (mark) is a registered

certification trademark owned by ECAE and is licensed to companies
whose management system is certified by ECAE CD.
The official colors of the logo are red and blue. Currently the certification logo is
used only in association with Quality Management System Certification and the
others will be picked-up as ECAE management system Certification further
establishes demonstrated competence corresponding to the requirements of
the relevant international standards.

The Certification Body management system certification logo will stand for the
certification of:
 Quality management systems, in accordance with the requirements of
ISO 9001;
 Environmental management systems, in accordance with the
requirements of ISO 14001;

 Food safety management systems, in accordance with the requirements

of ISO 22000;
The ECAE management system certification logo can be used on letterhead
and business cards as well as in websites, the advertising, marketing and
promotional activities relating to certified management system of the client and
such detail is given in Certification Logo Agreement, OF/CD/1.61.
The certification logo must not be used on a product (including test certificates,
reports and drawings) or in any way that could be interpreted as denoting
product conformity.
4.Benefits of Management system Certification
In the past management system certification was considered as complicated,
bureaucratic and expensive. However, currently it is seen as offering very real
and tangible benefits to companies. Nowadays, industries and the way they
perceive management system certification is becoming matured.
