A) Problems clinician might encounter in constructive of Kennedy Class 1 Cobalt

Chrome of RPD.

Kennedy class 1 patients usually have missing some or all of their teeth on both sides in a
single arch and has no posterior teeth. The problems that might be faced are from support
vice which means from the dentures ability to anchor itself down. With the free end saddles
,sticky food may lift the denture base away from supporting tissues. This displacement will
produce rotation on posterior side.It designed with unequal forces being distributed over the
RPD,rapid destruction of periodontal tissues may happen with potential of abutment loss. The
destruction of residual ridges will decrease their height, causing rocking to the denture and
needing continuous realignments of denture. The undercuts present will be less so it makes the
determination of retainer bit difficult. The ret need to be prepared on tooth with maximum
support. Since the tissue is supporting then might be low support in the denture. Cobalt
Chrome can be appearing to be heavier. This will cause the denture to drop when the
retention is too low

B) Problems patient might encounter when wearing Kennedy Class 1 Cobalt Chrome of
RPD
The problems that might be faced are retention, support and stability and resistance
of rotation of saddle. With the free end saddles ,sticky food may lift the denture base away
from supporting tissues. This displacement will produce rotation on posterior side.It designed
with unequal forces being distributed over the RPD,rapid destruction of periodontal tissues
may happen with potential of abutment loss. To overcome the support problem, reduce the
forces applied to the saddle and distribute the residual forces as widely as possible. Prevent
the major connector from traumatizing the mucosa. In the case of retention problem,
occlusally approaching clasp from mesial rest if – gold alloy and from distal proximal plate –
Co/Cr.

C) Steps to be taken during the constructions of denture to minimize the problems

given above.

Surveying should be done well without error so that there will be any problems;
undercut. Provision of optimum support for the distal extensions denture bases. The
auxiliary rest should be placed as far as is practical from fulcrum line, rests minimize
the rotation and aid in retention.Broad coverage permits favourable distribution of
stresses .To be retentive, the tooth must have an angle of convergence cervical to the
height of contour. Also flexible retention is designed to flex or move into area of
greater undercut as forces are applied to rpd. The longer the clasp arm, the more
flexible it will be. The occlusal rest must be designed to prevent the movement of
clasp arm towards the cervical. The amount of retention should be minimum
necessary to the resit reasonable dislodging forces.
