Cybersecurity
Trojans, viruses, Spectre, and Meltdown...
The term "cybersecurity" is being frequently used lately –
many understand that it has to do with data theft, computer
viruses that can encrypt entire hard drives, and industrial
espionage. The methods by which a virus can be installed on a
system are as unpredictable as they are individual:
Ransomware viruses that can infiltrate systems by traditional means and encrypt entire servers in
order to hold them ransom have taken a far more drastic and radical approach since 2018. Fake emails
with (deceptively) real job applications are sent from hacked email accounts in response to actual job
listings, where the ransomware contained therein reaches a local hard drive in order to encrypt all
connected network drives there.
A massive problem in all ARM processors became known in 2019: Malware was exploiting the Spectre
and Meltdown vulnerabilities within ARM's current CPU architecture, causing intensive worldwide
"retrofitting" of operating systems through patches in order to get a handle on the problem.
The CS141/BACS/SITEMANAGER, etc. also use the affected ARM processors but the "backdoor" of the
processor is irrelevant to us because our products are "hardened" and do not allow any write access
within the operating system.
As a result, the vulnerability in the architecture of the ARM processors was never able to be exploited
in order to infect them with malware. This "hardening" of the operating system is a very drastic
measure that can be used to establish the greatest possible security barrier within a network product.
This is the first and most important step of our security concept for all GENEREX network products that
we have been successfully using to protect our products from malware since 2016 already.
Service
With the more intensive use of the network monitoring of power supply systems and the numerous
terrorist attacks on electric utility companies, the issue of "cybersecurity" has gained increased
attention from users. In order to protect themselves, many users use various "security software"
products, a large number of which are offered for what are known as "penetration tests". The goal is
to determine the basic risk potential within network products for the lowest expense. The result of
these tests is not always informative, because the security software for penetration tests of various
providers often delivers different results and thereby generates distrust in a reliable security concept
such as the one used by the CS141:
The CS141, for example, is often categorized as a "potential security risk" by such security software
because the identified version number of the operating system is merely compared with a database
for theoretically comparable patch levels.
GENEREX uses a stable Linux system on the CS141 as a basic version New features, corrections, and
security patches are created by GENEREX and distributed via firmware updates.
Every correction that GENEREX performs itself therefore does not automatically lead to a change of its
version number in the official Linux database. As a consequence, checking the firmware status of the
GENEREX products is not very informative with regard to potential security risks for a Linux operating
system. For this reason, we kindly ask our OEM customers who issue a release of the firmware to
promptly perform this release process in order to avoid any security risk for their users. GENEREX
provides new firmware containing new features and security updates as a download for all customers
every 2 months on average.
We remind all of our OEM customers with a firmware release procedure to perform this promptly
and to issue GENEREX the release for new firmware.
We recommend performing a release test on the latest version of the GENREEX firmware at least once
every 6 months in order to keep the dispatch of new GENEREX firmware at a current security level. The
issue of "cybersecurity" will gain increased attention from users in the coming years, users of
uninterruptible power supply systems and emergency power supply systems managing large networks
with access to the Internet in particular want to make use of remote maintenance on the one hand
but on the other hand they do not want to put their IT at any risk.
Service
We offer secure remote monitoring without any risk to the IT using UNMS and Email-Trap AND we
protect our systems and have them tested at regular intervals with regard to cybersecurity.
We thereby follow the strategy of striving to meet the broadly interpreted standard on cybersecurity,
IEC 62443.
IEC 62443 is continuously being updated and every device that is tested according to this standard can
already become outdated again in just a few months. Users are nevertheless under pressure to provide
for network security. Most users are unable to cope with this using their own skills, so they attempt to
push the issue of cybersecurity onto their suppliers and demand the supply of secure network
components as well as the testing of the security level by an independent certifier in order to relieve
users of responsibility for their own network security.
This demand is a very significant cost factor for the manufacturers of network products and this is
reflected in the purchase price of the product. This will not be any different for GENEREX either once
a third-party service provider has been selected and implemented for the cybersecurity certification.
But it will still be some time until that happens.
These days, arguments for price increases are no longer based on the hardware but rather on the
security of these products in the network.
This is precisely where the difference lies between GENEREX products, which are manufactured
exclusively in Germany or the United States, and our competitors in Asia:
The added value that a product offers is unfortunately often a hidden information when customers
just compare data sheets. The price difference between a GENEREX CS141 WEBMANAGER and a
mostly cheaper direct import results from many individual aspects.
Unlike SNMP cards from direct imports, which are often bought "as seen" and only work for a specific
UPS, GENEREX cards offer more than a data sheet can tell:
• Software and security updates, we provide an active development for many years.
• Free new features that expand the range of functions.
• Independence from a UPS model, even the manufacturer can be changed with a simple
update.
• A powerful Support even far beyond the UPS interface.
• Flexibility, reliability and stability.
The added value that customers receive from their power supply products with GENEREX technology
is much higher than the pure price difference of the hardware.
Today there is considerably more technology in the CS141 / BACS than in most UPS devices
themselves - If you want to operate a secure UPS solution, you will need to find a way your UPS
can do more than just offering emergency power. You need an intelligent network management
concept.

We have therefore decided once again this year to maintain the current 2019/2020 price list as long
as possible, even beyond its expiration date, provided that no new price list is published.
The prices in the 2019/2020 price list will remain valid until the official publication of the 2020/2021
price list.
Should there be any price increases, we guarantee that the old prices will remain valid for all OEM
customers until 3 months after the introduction of the new price list in order to ensure them price
certainty in their projects.
In order to simplify comparison with the current price structure, we have also color-coded the
2019/2020 price list:
Microsoft Visio is a program that can be used to compile and display complex
project processes as well as all associated documentation graphically. Business
processes, production processes, and even technical drawings and
construction diagrams can be mapped in this way using different diagram
types. The object files can then be embedded in further documents and linked
to any databases or Excel documents desired. This makes it possible for weekly reports to
automatically be updated when the parent document is accessed, for example.
The Visio shapes for our products are now available for download for your project documentation.
As with Microsoft Visio, we are now offering STEP (Standard for the Exchange
of Product Model Data) files for some of our products as well.
We would like to provide you with STEP files as a tool for the design of your own BACS system
accordingly or quick and easy integration into already existing design documents.
The STEP and VISIO files are available for download on our website.

BACS Quickstart manual and BACS datasheets
With its well-thought-out illustrations selected with care, the
"BACS Quickstart" manual enables the easy installation and
commissioning of our most successful product, BACS.
The BACS datasheets, on the other hand, are available in multiple languages and we are always
adding new languages when our OEM partners provide us with a translation.

The trade fair for security applications organized by Messe Frankfurt was held on the trade fair
premises in Taipei Nangang on May 8-10, 2019 and attracted great interest in Taiwan. The experts
from JT Information Co. Ltd. impressively demonstrated the multifaceted options of emergency
management for IT infrastructures at the trade fair. In doing so, they not only demonstrated how the
BACS battery management system functions but also the interaction of the diverse management
functions of our popular SITEMANAGER and SITEMONITOR systems.
JT Information is an experienced and highly qualified partner for the sale and installation of BACS as
well as all other GENEREX products in Taiwan and is in constant communication with GENEREX in
Germany.
LEISTUNG is not only an OEM partner and reseller of our products but also
a distributor for interested resellers and installers in Brazil:
This exceptional position in Brazil is necessary due to the vastly complex import laws and customs
duties in Brazil that most small-scale electrical businesses do not implement, meaning that they cannot
offer the import of goods.
LEISTUNG is the contact in Brazil for all end consumers and resellers of our products and offers the
same prices to resellers that are on our European price list (plus import duties, local fees, and freight
costs) and thereby acts as a distributor. We are pleased to have gained LEISTUNG as a new partner in
Brazil.
With LEISTUNG, GENEREX now has over 100 OEM customers and more than 300 authorized partners
in over 60 countries worldwide.
