Sir Francis Bacon being one of the finest prose write has given another exceptional display of his

understanding of the worldly affairs where the human in involved. This essay is all about love and
affection. The purpose of the essay is to explain love and the affects that it has on the people. The essay
is to explain love and affects it has on all kinds of people. The essay informs the reader that no matter
what type of person you are love will compel you to get indulged in it and no escape from this natural
instinct exists. Man is the main subject of his essay. Of love is a blend of philosophizing, moralizing and
worldly wisdom. The overall hall mark of this essay is the practical implementation of the desires
attached with love. The conflict that has been discussed in how the love destroys human wise and how
different exotic desired drains a lover away from world, ending the conflict by discussing that is the word
just a relation between men and women.

The structure used is a very nice and smooth one; Bacon starts the essay by describing the form of love
portrayed on the stage and in stories and plays. Then he links it to real world that how love is
mischievous and difficult to get hold off. Then Bacon has went on to link historical links to provide
evidence of the traits shown by people who were provided with similar opportunity but didn’t took the
right decision and became victim of love. Lessons of Greek philosopher Epicurus has been used to
provide another understanding of what an individual should opt if he wants to safeguard his self-esteem
which is the essence of man. The devalues that are linked to love along with the destruction of abilities;
he takes it all and link to the womanly affections that according to him are described as a harm to once
character and society. He does not disregard on from these desires but just warns them of the
consequences. He enlightens in the end that love is beyond just womanly desire and it’s a positive
affection that is god in other terms as well for instance the love of martial man. So all together he has
rightly portrayed what is love and how it considered and finally what are the positive attributed linked to
it but in general terms he has disregarded love because of the wrong definition of love that exists which
has confined this natural phenomena to woman.

Style of writing in this prose is systematic, moving logically from on point to another and linking the
dots. This essay has a methodological approach by the use of comparison of love as depicted on stage to
what love is like in the natural world of humans and then further discussing the fallacies of the world by
categorizing the different types of loves which are good and bad, for instance the reference to love of
women and the love of martial man. He represents all these themes with the use of a great number of
versatile utility which is a bit upper than the general level of normal writing style. Bacon has given moral
lesson with aphorism and impersonality. He has also given the proper direction to the readers of all ages
of different natural aspects. Bacon possesses a complex and contradicting nature; treatment of worldly
Love: here, love is treated as a folly of men which keeps a man from being beneficial to society. In a real
life, love breeds mischief, either as allurement or as violent passion according to Bacon.

Every word is self-explanatory so it removes the idea of parenthesis because of the use of rhyme me
Bacon. Bacon is very practical in treating love. He considers it just one of many passions of human mind.
He does not pay extra favour to it emotionally; rather he sees love as a “child of folly” in his essay “of
love” As he comments: “Nuptial love maketh mankind; friendly love perfecteth it; but wanton love
corrupteth, and embaseth it.” There are some weaknesses which are noteworthy, sometimes his
grammatical structure loses. His sentences are concise but readers see its effects directly on grammar.
Latin phrases which sometimes create difficulty.

He says: “That it is impossible to love and to be wise” so that’s a depiction of his aphoristic style and use
of terse. He considers love as disgraceful idolization in which regard he says that man neither just loses
its passion but also loses himself. The use of referencing has been done bacon where he gives example
od Appius Claudius and Marcus Antonius both of them were different so a referencing along with
comparison has been done to narrate to the readers mind that how both of them were different and too
different paths despite this that both were given the same opportunity and one went for wise of the
world and other went for exotic desires; so the aim is to link history and bring it to the reader that the
view are not just depiction if mind but there exists examples where people lost themselves when that
couldn’t refrain from love. Use so similes has been doe where the reference to human exotic behavior
while chasing love is linked to beast.

So thus one can remark that Bacon has employed the use of allusions in order to explain his point. They
serve to make his style more scholarly and enrich it while lending to his ideas. His style of writing greatly
involves the use of proverbs in the form of providing a moral lesson; the use of proverb makes the essay
brief and full of condensed sentences. One thing that is remarkable and I will appreciate is that Bacon
does not forces any of his idea on to the reader, he does not just fights to change the view but just
questions the thinking of human mind. The use of causal relation has been widely used by Bacon to
ensure that different ideas are not used interchangeably; example of causal relation includes the use of
“For it is a true rule, that love is ever rewarded, either with the reciproque, or with an inward and secret
contempt.” As in all of his essays he has used natural abilities if man to pay attention to how such
abilities are hindered by these worldly desires for which case the example that has been mentioned
here is regarding the self-esteem and how passion for women destroys it. In the end one can say that
the use of word and the use of Latin words make provide edge to his writing he in the end does not
departs from his stance but again even in the end he leaves the concept of questioning to the viewer’s
cognition for example when he says, “Nuptial love maketh mankind; friendly love perfecteth it; but
wanton love corrupteth, and embaseth it.”

In the end I will get to what I make out from this prose of bacon as my conclusion remarks; Bacon in his
own life was known for his character where the reference can be found of that 21 year old girl which
interviewed Bacon and said about Bacon and his lovely affairs; he writes about all what the perspectives
of world exist in the world about love and what is the purity in love. He refutes to his idea in the end by
letting the leader know that it’s us, humans who pollute love and change its perception. He has advised
us to never compromise on the self-esteem.
