INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN

Sequence of Instructional Procedures/Activities/Events

1. Student Prerequisite Skills/Connections to Previous Learning:

 Students must possess the knowledge of how to access and navigate
Google Form.
 Students must possess the ability to identify and compare information.
2. Presentation Procedures for New Information:
The purpose of this lesson is for students to be able to identify nutrition
information on food products and compare products based on nutrition facts.

I will have written instructions for my lesson projected on the board in the front of
the classroom for students to be able to see when they enter the class and refer
to during the lesson. I will also verbalize the instructions that are projected.

3. Guided/Independent Practice:
I will have a table set up with various empty food packages. Students will be
given a link to a Google Form that contains 15 questions. Students will read
information about nutrients and then answer questions using the nutrition labels
of various empty food packages. My 6th graders will work as a group. My 7th
graders will have the option to work alone or with a partner. My 8 th graders will
work as a group. For example, on the Google Form there will be a fact about
Carbohydrates and how it impacts the body. Then, students will be asked a
question such as “Which food item contains the greatest amount of
carbohydrates?” Students will have to look at all the various food packages to
find the one with the greatest amount of carbohydrates. Students will type their
answers of the questions into the Google Form and then submit.

Because this lesson takes place in a special education resource classroom, there
may be other students entering/exiting the room at the time of the lesson in order
to receive accommodations per their IEPs. If this occurs during my lesson, I will
direct my students to keep working on their Google Form questions while I
accommodate the testing students. I will check in with my students working on
my lesson periodically. I will have instructional assistants who can assist as well
if I need help balancing entering/exiting testers.

4. Culminating or Closing Procedure/Activity/Event:

Once students submit the Google Form, then they will be directed to work on any
homework that they may have in their general education classes.
Because this lesson takes place in a special education resource classroom,
students are given time at the end of a lesson to work on classwork or ask any
questions that they may have on homework for their general education classes.

Instructional Strategy (or Strategies):

This lesson incorporates direct instruction with guided inquiry-based and
interactive strategies. My 6th and 8th grade classes will work in small groups
because I have found group activities where all students work together
towards a common goal deter behavior problems. However, my 7 th grade class
will have the option to work with a partner they choose or alone. I have found that
my 7th grade class have increased behavior issues when working in small
groups. Therefore, they will be able to choose to work with a peer or alone if they
so choose.
Use of Technology:
 Instructions will be projected onto the board.
 Students will be using their Chromebooks to access a Google Form in
order to complete the assignment.

Differentiated Instruction Accommodations:

 Students with learning disabilities: access to written and verbal instructions, extra
time if needed, extra support from teacher if needed.
 English Language Learners: access to online translator (Google Translate),
access to written and verbal instructions, extra time if needed, extra support from
teacher if needed.

Student Assessment/Rubrics:
Students will investigate nutrition labels on various empty food packaging and
answer 15 questions on a Google Form. Students are expected to score at least 13 out
of 15 total points.
