1. Purpose
 To described and outline the methodology and work procedures for roadway Embankment Utilizing
equipment such as Grader, Vibratory Roller, Backhoe, Dump truck and Wheel Loader.
2. Scope of Work
 Roadway Embankment covers handling, loading, transporting, placing and Grading of acceptable materials
excavated from roadway or from borrow sites for roadway construction at project up to the approved design
level.

3. Responsibilities
Project Manager/Deputy Project Manager shall direct when and where to start the
Embankment works and established deadlines for activity to be finished with the time frame
set forth on the construction schedule.
Field Engineer/Site Engineer shall be responsible for the execution of roadway embankment.
Quality Control Engineer shall be responsible in monitoring quality of works and materials
brought at site.
Surveyor shall be responsible for establishing boundaries, limits, elevations and extend of
roadway embankment.
Safety officer shall ensures that the safety of the workers ha taken into consideration at all
times. He makes sure that the stake, poles and barricades with warning tapes on it shall be
in placed whenever required as the roadway embankment progresses. Warning lights shall
likewise be introduced if found necessary.
4. Work Methodology
 Secure necessary permits prior to any construction activities.

 Survey layout.
- The Surveyor in coordination with Site Engineer/Field Engineer shall stake out the limits and extend of
the embankment and constantly check as the work progresses to meet the required elevation and
limits of embankment.
 Clearing and grubbing.
- Removing and disposing of all unwanted and unsuitable materials such as trees,
grass, weeds and downed trees (Left and Right side slope).
 Joint Survey for baseline will be conducted after clearing and grubbing is completed. Cut and fill will be
determined from this level and shall be approved by the Employer’s Representative.
 Established designed limits, center line with its elevations for preparation to received
embankment.
 Placing of Embankment Materials.
- Embankment materials is placed in uniformed level layers and properly moistened and
compacted with approved compacting equipment.
- Successive layers of the same depth of loose lift shall be placed and compacted until
reaching the intended design elevation of embankment.
- The loose depth of each lift is required to be such that the required compaction maybe
obtained, but in no case exceed 200mm.
 Grading of Embankment materials.
- Motor Grader shall be used for Grading, leveling and finishing of freshly backfill materials.
 Surveyor together with the Site Engineer/Field Engineer shall constantly monitor the work
operation to conform with the design elevation and line grade cross-section.
 Compaction of Embankment materials using Vibro roller and Water truck.
- Field Compaction test are required to be conducted on each lift, and the required compaction
obtained each lift before the next lift is placed.
- Unless otherwise specified, all embankments are compacted to at least 95 percent of their
Maximum Dry Density.
 Installation of road and safety signage.
 Provide rigger to control the sequencing in dumping of embankment materials.
 Provide Flagman on both ends of work areas to control the traffic.
Note : Strict traffic management will be implemented.

5. Safety Precautions.
Safety tool box meeting shall be conducted everyday to remind workers about concerning the safety.
All workers shall be provided with PPE(PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT) and shall be
Worn at all time on site. Safety Manager/Safety supervisor shall insure all the workers wear all the Safety
equipment provided.
All workers shall be advised to report any accident or injury to supervisor.
Proper and adequate provision of signage’s and barricades at diversions and temporary haul road as
Necessary.
Prime importance shall be given for personnel safety and protection of utility lines/services. It shall be
insure that the personnel involved are aware about the company safety regulation and confirmed that the
machinery are regularly maintained. Further to above, the following key points shall be considered
important.
a) All moving vehicle/equipment shall have reverse horn.

b) Transporting of person per vehicle is restricted to the number of seats available.
c) Road safety sign /road diversion sign shall be installed wherever applicable for the safe Movement of
vehicles or equipment.
7. Environmental Protection Procedures.
All workers shall educate on good environment management practices and well discipline to environment. The
garbage bin shall be provided at the working area and supervisor shall insure its must be collected regularly and
disposed off at the approved dump site.
All workers shall insure that all tools and equipment machinery are in good condition to avoid any oil leakage that
could harm to environment.
