Day 97

Day 12
CORONAVIRUS
Medical issue
Public health issue
Economic issue
Mainly
Social issue
Changing
Monumental
undertaking
Social change comes from
communication of the facts,
a plan forward and
motivated citizenry.
I showed people the
death and hospitalization numbers
every day.
And a plan to go forward.
In the case of the social unrest, people
have seen the Mr. Floyd murder
and are seeing
what is going on on our streets.
Facts matter.
Of course police must
protect public safety &
protect themselves.
But there are also cases
of police abuse and
abuse of power.
the breaking point,
Society must be aware and say:
The abuse must stop.
We must change.
New York leads the way.
Say Their Name
Rodney King (Los Angeles, 1991)
Malice Green (Detroit, 1992)
Abner Louima (NYC, 1997)
Amadou Diallo (NYC, 1999)
Sean Bell (NYC, 2006)
Oscar Grant (Oakland, 2009)
Trayvon Martin (Sanford, FL, 2012)
Eric Garner (NYC, 2014)
Michael Brown (Ferguson, MO, 2014)
Tamir Rice (Cleveland, OH 2014)
Laquan McDonald (Chicago, 2014)
Walter Scott (N. Charleston, SC, 2015)
Freddie Gray (Baltimore, 2015)
Philando Castile (Falcon Heights, MN, 2016)
Antwon Rose Jr. (Pittsburgh, 2018)
Ahmaud Arbery (Glynn County, GA, 2020)
Breonna Taylor (Louisville, KY, 2020)
George Floyd (Minneapolis, 2020)
4 Cornerstones
• Transparency of prior disciplinary
records 50-a
• No chokeholds
• False race-based 911 report should be a hate crime
• Attorney General as independent prosecutor for
police murders
Stopping police abuse vindicates the
overwhelming majority of good police.
Trust.
Heal the
police community relationship,
which must happen.
For the sake of the
police and community.
In this
politically partisan,
racially charged
the day.
Must hold two truths:
COVID-19 never a question of:
Public The
OR
Health Economy

BOTH
Not a question of:
Public Safety OR Civil Rights
Police Safety OR Protestor Safety
BOTH
Can we change societal behavior?
Can we have a
new societal awareness?
Can we change our behavior to
respect one another?
Yes!
We just did!
In a fundamental way!
