1 Scope
This document will outline the mixing instructions for Cement Kit T6016548-AD for temperatures up to
310°F. Spaces are provided on this form for recording the cement dump run.

2 Requirements
The well temperature at plug setting depth must be accurately measured with a thermometer or other
recorder just prior to setting the plug. It is very important to completely mix the kit components. Use a
B028744 Barrel Type Mixing Blade that is in good condition with no sharp edges. Mix for the full time
specified in the instructions below. Do not allow kit materials to be exposed to water or high humidity
during storage. Keep the mixing equipment clean.

2.3 Additional Hardware Needed

CEMENT MIXER (H223309) WITH BARREL TYPE MIXER BLADE (B028744).

STRAINER SCREEN – FOR BREAKING LUMPS IN SLURRY.
* OPTIONAL - OVEN OR HEATER TO WARM MIX FLUIDS, IF NECESSARY.

3 MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
Refer to table 4.3.1 to find the quantity of measured additives necessary for the well temperature
at plug depth. Record this information below.

RETARDER LIQUID (cc) ___________

3.1 Mixing Liquids

Pour the required amount of liquid additives (below) into a clean bucket, heat if required.

Schlumberger Confidential
______ CONTAINER #2 2.6 GALLONS MIX FLUID
Per 2.2 ______ RETARDER LIQUID (cc - requires plastic syringe)
______ ONE BOTTLE FLUID LOSS ADDITIVE

* To avoid errors when adding the RETARDER liquid, make sure that each time the syringe is
fully loaded with 60cc volume, check below for the RETARDER added to the mix.
____ 1 syringe 60cc ____ 2 syringe 120cc ____ 3 syringe 180cc
____ 4 syringe 240cc ____ 5 syringe 300cc ____ 6 syringe 360 cc

** The proper method of measuring the RETARDER is put the syringe in the liquid and draw
fluid into the syringe. Then eject the fluid completely from the syringe to remove trapped air.
Again put the syringe in the liquid and draw back the plunger to 60cc or the required amount.
Push the fluid out with the plunger until it stops at the zero mark. Do not remove the small amount
of RETARDER remaining in the syringe tip. Repeat this process, if necessary, until the correct
volume of RETARDER has been added.

3.1.1 Temperature Requirements for Liquids Ingredients

If the water and kit are below 70 °F, it will be necessary to warm the liquid ingredients in
3.1 prior to mixing. Warm to the following values based on the outside or ambient
temperature.
Ambient: Heat water to:
30°F 100°F
40°F 90°F
50-60°F 80°F

3.2 Adding Dry Ingredients – Bag “A”

Slowly add the dry mix of the large “Bag A” to the mix fluid container. As the dry mix thickens
the slurry, turn the mixer up to the maximum speed without causing mixer cavitations.

3.3 Adding Dry Ingredients – Bag “B”

Slowly add in the contents of “Bag B” EXPANDING AGENT. After the contents of Bag A and
Bag B are completely blended into the mix fluids with no visible lumps, continue mixing for 20
minutes. It may be necessary, from time to time, to stop the mixer and reposition it in the pail in
order to mix a homogenous slurry. After 20 minutes stop the mixer. If lumps float to the surface
or settle to bottom, continue mixing if necessary at a higher speed.

Schlumberger Confidential
Note:
Mix for 20 minutes minimum to assure complete mixing.

If the job operations require more mixing time, the additional mixing does not adversely affect
the slurry properties. It is recommended to keep the mixer at reasonably high speed to fully
hydrate the system. Keep the slurry density constant during delays by isolating the slurry from
sun, wind, and rain.

3.4 Strain the slurry

Strain the slurry through a screen to remove air and lumps. If the cement has been mixed properly
there should be few air bubbles or lumps.

4.1 Properties of Cement Slurry

Volume: 1 Kit makes approximately 5.0 gal of slurry.
Density: 16.2 lb/gal
Bailer fill-up: 1-11/16 (11.71 ft./gal) 59 feet.
2-1/8 (7.46 ft./gal) 37 feet.

Note:
When bottom filling, allow for the amount of slurry left in bottom fill apparatus. This can reduce
bailer fill-up by several feet. Refer to DBA manual C200668 for Bottom Filling Procedures.

4.2 Set Time and Dump Time vs. Temperature

“Set Time” - If mixing instructions are followed the cement slurry is retarded to remain a
liquid for 4 to 6 hours after the bailer starts in the well (refer to Table 3.3.1; Set Time).

Schlumberger Confidential
This is based on allowing 30 minutes of surface activity after completely mixing the
cement. Retardation test have been performed to establish the Set Times. During the
retardation tests the temperature is increased at 2.5°F per minute, from 76°F (25C) until
the cure temperature (BHCT) is reached, and then maintained until the cement indicates
a set.
“Set Time” targets from 4-6 hours allow the typical bailer run to return to surface prior to
the slurry setting up in the bailer tubes.
The cement kit design includes correct additive concentrations to prevent dump
problems occurring (slurry density/ free water, dispersant, correct retarder amount for
temperature, plus an anti-settling agent). Adjustments to this kit design by adding more
water / dispersant / retarder product is not recommended to the field user. Any questions
concerning the kit should be directed to In-Touch.
