DAILY DOSES

OF LOVE

FROM MY HEART
TO YOURS,

MARIA SHYEIHD
*#@+*

Come to me with a teachable spirit, eager to be

changed. A close walk with Me is a life of continual
newness. Do not cling to old ways as you step into a
new year. Instead, seek My Face with an open mind,
knowing that your journey with Me involves being
transformed by the renewing of your mind. As you
focus your thoughts on Me, be aware that I'm fully
attentive to you. I see you with a steady eye because
My attention span is infinite. I know and understand you
completely; My thoughts embrace you in everlasting
Love. I also know the plans I have for you: plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future. Give yourself fully to this adventure
of increasing attentiveness to My Presence.

Psalm 27:8 ESV ; Romans 12:2 ; Jeremiah 29:11

When AT CERTAIN OCCASIONS you feel irritated,

take a few deep breaths and pray to The Lord TO bring
you patience. Patience will help you win at all times,
and it ALSO teaches you to wait, when you can't (-)
immediately HAVE what you so DESIRE.

Refresh YOURSELF in the peace of my presence. This

peace can be your portion at all times and in all
circumstances. Learn to hide in the secret of my My
Presence, even as you carry out your duties in the
world. I am both with you and within you. I go before
you to open up the way, and I also walk alongside you.
There could never be another companion as devoted
as I am.
Because I am your constant Companion, there should
be a lightness to your step that is observable to others.
Do not be weighted down with problems and
unresolved issues, for I am your burden-bearer.
In the world you have trials and distress, but don't let
them get you down. I have conquered the world and
deprived it of power to harm you. In Me you may have
confident Peace.

I want you to learn a new habit. Try saying, "I Trust

You, Jesus," in response to whatever happens to you.
If there is time, think about who I AM in all My Power
and Glory; ponder also the depth and breadth of My
Love for you.
This simple practice will help you see Me in every
situation, acknowledging My sovereign control over the
universe. When you view events from this perspective
–– through the Light of My universal Presence –– fear
loses its grip on you. Adverse circumstances become
growth opportunities when you affirm your trust in Me
no matter what. You receive blessings gratefully,
realizing they flow directly from my hand of grace. Your
continual assertion of trusting Me will strengthen our
relationship and keep you close to Me.

–– Psalm 63:2 ; Isaiah 40:10 –; Psalm 139:7 – 10

Your mind is birthless and continuous, without a

beginning, middle, or end. The rising and sinking of
agitaded waves ceases by itself without interference.
This mind that is obscured by thoughts when left as it
is, unmodified, will clarify as the dharmakaya. Do not
modify it, but rest in relaxation. Do not control the mind,
but let it go free. Do not have intentions, but be
spacious. Do not focus on anything, but be expansive.

You can achieve the victorious life through living in deep dependance on
Me. People usually associate victory with success: not falling or
stumbling, not making mistakes. But those who are successful in their
own strength tend to go their own way, forgetting about Me. It is through
problems and failure, weakness and neediness that you learn to rely on
Me.
True dependence is not simply asking Me to bless what you have
decided. It is coming to Me with an open mind and heart, inviting Me to
plant My desires within you. I may infuse within you a dream that seems
far beyond your reach. You know in yourself you cannot achieve such a
goal. Thus begins your journey of profound reliance on Me. It is a faifh-
walk, taken one step at a time, leaning on Me as much as you need. This
is not a path of continual success but of multiple failures. However, each
failure is followed by a growth spurt, nourished by increased reliance on
Me. Enjoy the blessedness of a victorious life through deepening your
dependence on Me.

–– Psalm 34:17 ––18; 2 CORINTHIANS 5:7 NKJV

Open your heart to your suffering. If you’re feeling that

family and friends could be helping more but aren’t,

first contact.

I’m thankful for being given the opportunity to love and

Whatever your path at this moment, every single step is

equal in substance. Every step actualizes the true self.
Every moment of practice is always the koan of

Even your obnoxiousness, your failures, your rank
inadequacy is it. Your best revenge is to include it as

I am able to do far beyond all that you ask or imagine.

Come to Me with positive expectations, knowing that
there is no limit to what I can accomplish. Ask My Spirit
to control your mind so that you can think great
thoughts of Me. Do not be discouraged by the fact that
many of your prayers are yet unanswered. Time is a
trainer, teaching you to wait upon Me, to trust Me in the
dark. The more extreme your circumstances, the more
likely you are to see My power and Glory at work in the
situation. Instead of letting difficulties draw you into
worrying, try to view them as setting the scene for My
glorious intervention. Keep your eyes and your mind
wide open to all that I am doing in your life.

This practice is beautifully summed up in one of the

Buddha’s shortest teachings. He simply said, “In
seeing, let there be only what is seen; in hearing, let
there be only what is heard; in sensing, let there be
only what is sensed; in cognizing, let there be only what
is cognized.” The point is to be fully aware of our
experience, without adding interpretation or
commentary, without getting lost in it, clinging to it, or
pushing it away. This means simply being with what is
happening right now, being fully present to the moment.
It means surrendered acceptance of “what is,” whether
agreeable to us or not, without reactive emotions. It
does not mean passivity in the face of evil or when
action is called for, but only that we act out of
the needs of the situation and not from our own
reactivity.

Softly I announce my presence. Shimmering hues of

radiance tap gently at your consciousness, seeking
entrance. Though I have all power in heaven and on
earth, I am infinitely tender with you. The weaker you
are, the more gently I approach you. Let your weakness
be a door to my presence. Whenever you feel
inadequate, remember that I am your ever-present
Help.
Hope in Me, and you will be protected from depression
and self-pity. Hope is like a golden cord connecting you
to heaven. The more you cling to this cord, the more I
bear the weight of your burdens; thus you are
lightened. Heaviness is not of My Kingdom. Cling to
hope, and my rays of light will reach you through the
darkness.

What is compassion? Compassion involves a feeling of

closeness to others, a respect and affection that is not
based on others’ attitude toward us. We tend to
feel affection for people who are important to us. That
kind of close feeling does not extend to our enemies—
those who think ill of us. Genuine compassion, on the
other hand, sees that others, just like us, want a happy
and successful life and do not want to suffer. That kind
of feeling and concern can be extended to friend
and enemy alike, regardless of their feelings toward us.
That’s genuine compassion.

If I do not struggle with the greed inside myself, it is

quite likely that, once in power, I too will be inclined to
take advantage of the situation to serve my
own interests. If I do not acknowledge the ill will in my
own heart, I am likely to project my anger onto those
who obstruct my purposes. If unaware that my own
sense of duality is a dangerous delusion, I will
understand the problem of social change as the need
for me to dominate the sociopolitical order. Add a
conviction of my good intentions, along with my
superior understanding of the situation, and one has
a recipe for social as well as personal disaster.

I took my first steps toward experiencing happiness

when I learned an important Dharma lesson about
suffering: none of the sources of suffering are personal.
They don’t happen just to me; they happen to everyone

identify with the sources of my suffering or to the
suffering itself by telling myself stories about it.

In Buddhism, regret is not guilt. Guilt is an ego-

driven emotion and as such is al- ways nonvirtuous, but
regret can be either virtuous or nonvirtuous. It is
virtuous when we have a strong regret for the negative
things we have done in the past, consciously or
unconsciously, acting under the power of attachment,
anger, jealousy, and the like. To see that the harmful
actions of body, speech, and mind are nega- tive and
should be avoided, and to feel regret that we have done
them, is positive in that it leaves a definite imprint on
our mindstreams that will help us to avoid such actions
in the future.

I have to be willing to let go of the meanings I attribute

to things, however cher- ished these meanings might
seem. I’ve learned to value the surprises life brings me,
even when they pull me loose from familiar moorings
and set me adrift. I’d rather float free on an improbable
sea of unfamiliar possibilities than seek security in a
safe harbor of my own ideas. Besides, I’m less
interested now in my ideas about things and more
interested in the things themselves—and the things
them- selves are never what I think they are. They’re
always only themselves, unexpected and never the
same.

Unknowing is not the blankness of not having a clue,

If you identify by thinking “It’s emptiness,” or thinking “It

is signless and aspirationless,” thinking “It is

“It is birthless,” thinking “It is unperceivable,” thinking “It
has no nature,” thinking “It is without
elaboration,” thinking “It is not an object for analysis by
speech or mind,” thinking “It is uncreated and naturally
present,” and so on, however profound these thoughts,
our recognition of emptiness will not transcend the
conceptualization of an arrogant mind. Attachment to
concepts leads to a fall into inferior states and a
continuous ripening of karma from inferior actions.

Going through difficult, unwanted experiences does not

have to be terrible or un- bearable. Problems can be

experience, he resolved old problems with his family
and developed closer ties with them. He also became

From the inside, asking the meaning of life is like

asking the meaning of a tree or the sky or the ocean.
The meaning of a tree is to be tree; the meaning of the
sky simply is the sky, and so on. We might say that
from this perspective, the meaning of what’s happening
is inseparable from simply what’s happening. And that
“what” that’s happening moment after moment is all the
answer there is. In the end, our question isn’t answered
so much as it simply drops away.

and realize it wasn’t your health anyway—that it’s just
the nature of the body to be sick and weak? You need
to learn how to die—how to die to the world, die to your
posses- sions, die to all your hopes of material
happiness. That is, you need to learn how to let go of
everything. If you learn how to die early on in life,
you’re on the right track.

Generally, we think of enlightenment as something that

happens all at once, like a tidal wave that cleans
everything impure away. However, this is not actually
how realization happens. Realization happens increme
ntally, from moment to moment.

When things seem to be going all wrong, stop and

affirm your trust in me. Calmly bring these matters to
me, and leave them in My capable hands. Then, simply
do the next thing. Stay in touch woth me through
thankful, trusting prayers, resting in My sovereign
control. Rejoice in Me –– exult in the God of your
salvation! As you trust in me, I make your feet like the
feet of a deer. I enable you to walk and make progress
upon your high places of trouble, suffering, or
responsibility.

“Life is not only precious but living your life in a

developed country is a privileged life compared to living
your life in a third world country. There is always
someone in the world that would be willing to take your
place and fight your fight. They will gladly learn to live
with your pain, adapt to your depression, overcome
your fears; not die by suicide and live the rest of your
life at peace. This is why death by suicide is an
unforgivable act because there are so many others who
would love to have your life.”

— Brian Michael Good

LEARN TO LAUGH at yourself more freely. Don't take

yourself on your circumstances so seriously. Relax and
know that I am God with you. When you desire My will
above all else, life becomes much less threatening.
Stop trying to monitor My responsibilities –– thingd that
are beyond your control. Find freedom by accepting the
boundaries of your domain. Laughter lightens your load
and lifts your heart into heavenly places. Your laughter
rises to heaven and blends with angelic melodies of
praise. Just as parents delight in the laughter of their
children, so I delight in hearing My children laugh. I
rejoice when you trust Me enough to enjoy your life
lightheartedly.
Do not miss the Joy of My presence by carrying the
weight of the world on your shoulders, Rather take My
Yoke upon you and learn from me. My yoke is
comfotable and pleasant; My burden is light and easily
borne.

Bring me your weakness, and receive My peace.

Accept yourself and your circumstances just as they
are, remembering that I am sovereign over everything.
Do not wear yourself out with analyzing and planning.
Instead, let thankfulness and trust be your guides
through this day; they will keep you close to Me. As you
live in the radiance of My presence, My peace shines
upon you. You will cease to notice how weak or strong
you feel because you will be focusing on Me. The best
way to get through this day is step by step with Me.
Continue this intimate journey, trusting that the path
you are following is headed for heaven.

— Psalm 29:11; Numbers 6:24 –– 26 ; Psalm 13:5

Time ticks away, fleeting past as we go about our busy

day. How often have you wished time would stop—
stand still for moments, hours, or even days? It’s
normal to want to capture the good times in our lives
and hold them tightly. As an eternal being, God stands
outside of time. He was, is, and always will be. We live
in the moment—the sliver of time we call today, and
that is where our focus often stays. But what if we
looked at our lives from God’s perspective? He created
us to live for all eternity with Him. He didn’t intend for
us to live our lives here on earth, die, and then begin
eternity with Him. Eternity is now! It starts with the
realization that your salvation has granted you a never-
ending story—a life without end. Sure, you’ll leave this
earth at some point, but you’ll carry on as a child of
God with Him forever and ever. You can live out- side
of time knowing there is really no end to your time with
Him.

Only I can tell you the future before it even

happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do
whatever I wish.” ISAIAH 46:10 NLT
