“We Shall Not Be Moved” — Celebrating ORUUC's First 60 Years
Rev. Jake Bohstedt Morrill, preaching — The Mighty Choir, lifting hearts
10:00 Traditional Service — 11:00 Anniversary Party — Noon Celebration Service
We are the heirs of a proud heritage of standing for a wider love against the doubts and fears of a
questioning world. This congregation is the story of conviction, the story of hope ever-lasting, and on this day, we
intend to raise one holy ruckus. We will do this to say, "Thank you." We will do this to say, "Hallelujah." We will do
this to feel in our hearts the challenge of living up to the example of the ones who came before us, as we move forward
together as one toward the future. All are invited, all are welcome, all have a place in this ongoing story.
At 11 a.m. in the Social Hall, we will be celebrating our 60th Anniversary. We would love for you to join us in
celebrating the past 60 years, and looking forward to the next 60 years together! A Special Thanks to Cindy Holt for
preparing the food and Jo Ann Garrett and Dave Holt for helping to serve.

Martin Luther King Day Sunday: “Reviving A Consideration of Nuclear Weapons in Honor of Dr. King”
The Rev. Steven Martin, preaching
10:00 Traditional Service, Noon Celebration Service
Once it was only the fringe that called for nuclear disarmament. No more. Today a broad coalition is forming that is calling for a
reconsideration of nuclear weapons in view of the new threat of nuclear terrorism. Rev. Steven Martin, a child of Oak Ridge who
remembers being let out of school to protest President Jimmy Carter's motorcade through Oak Ridge prior to the closure of the
Clinch River Breeder Reactor project, will ask us to join in this thoughtful reconsideration. How can current non-proliferation
efforts, the new START treaty, and other efforts to secure nuclear stockpiles make for a more secure world? How does Al-Qaida
make nuclear technology more dangerous than ever? How does Dr. King's legacy require us to tirelessly pursue justice and
security for all the world's inhabitants?
Rev. Steven D. Martin is the Executive Director for The New Evangelical Partnership for the Common Good, a new a faith-based nonprofit
offering a renewed Christian public witness for the sake of the Gospel and the common good. He has served United Methodist Churches as
pastor for twenty years and is a graduate of Candler School of Theology. He has produced several films for public television, including
“Muslims in Appalachia,” “Islam in America After September 11th,” “Theologians Under Hitler,” “Renewal or Ruin?”, “Hearts Divided:
Baptism and the Jews in the Third Reich,” and most recently, “Elisabeth of Berlin.” He has lectured at the prestigious Chautauqua Institute
and in churches and seminaries across the US.
