As collectors are painfully aware of, new
Led Zeppelin video canbe quite saree, Wel ot
only is there some new video for fans 0 enjoy but
itis amazing! If you ever imagined something
better than Danish T.V. 1969 - this should be it
eis vintage 1969 video in COLOUR! For the
first time ever ~ here's the exclusive review.
‘This footage hails from Paris T.V. during a
little festival of bands that headlined Led
Zeppelin. The other groups performing ranged
from orchestras to ballets and rock music. Tt
seems to me that it was captured forever on film
[because ofthe ether ariforms included on the bill,
and Led Zeppelin just happened to be there. So,
‘why is this the coolest celluloid you've ever seen?
‘Well, Iu begins with a shot of the mighty Zep
backstage, You can see Page and Jones holding
their guitars close together tuning up. Jones holds
‘up the Fender bass and Page adjusts his Les Paul ~
yes, that's right Page uses the classic sunburst
Gibson Les Paul in this performance. (Around
this time in "69, he switched over to the Les Paul
from the Telecaster). The scene then cuts to
tan talking on the phone (in French of course).
‘When he hangs up the phone, you can hear a
familiar sound in the distance - sounds like
Communication Breakdown’ - itis! The camera
shifts t0 the stage where John Bonham is seen
blasting away on drums. It's. soundeheck. The
shots of Bonham are simply incredible and will
amaze anyone within listening or viewing range.
He is the highlight in this footage of the
soundcheck 0 the camera gets less of the other
members. Bonham is twirling his drum sticks
‘With true skill while playing impossible fills with
fone hand and foot, ‘You've never seen anything
like it! They play through the song and they seem
ready for the real show. The cameramen and
Soundmen are holding microphones testing forthe
best results.
The tape then cuts to the show. The
announcers are introducing the show and are
reading the names of people performing. Led
Zeppelin tops the bill and receives a respectable
applause from the audience. Speaking of the
‘crowd, most of them are not the typical ype of
fans you'd expect to see ata rock concert. ‘There
are a [ot of older_men and women as well as
young children. (They were obviously there for
ihe lighter side ofthe show.
‘We then sce the Zeppelin entourage
backstage, ready For another thunderous
performance. They look a bit uncomfortable
{Waiting to go on stage- maybe they realize that
this may not have been an ideal fineup to playing
‘Nevertheless, they are ready to rock and they
