We provide basic VNC access to servers, which works from the BIOS onwards, and allows you to install, configure and recover your operating system.
This server is at:
VNC IP: 5.152.181.237
VNC Port: 5900
VNC Password: LGuBaLS9
It is possible to disable VNC access to your server by setting a blank VNC password. You can reenable VNC access by setting a password again. Passwords are truncated to
8 characters.
In normal use, you should access your server by a native method (e.g. SSH, Windows Remote Desktop / RDP, or VNC installed inside your operating system on port 5901), as
this will provide superior performance.
For VNC access we recommend:
Windows: TightVNC Viewer (http://www.tightvnc.com/)
Linux: Vinagre (http://projects.gnome.org/vinagre/) (or others built on gtkvnc)
Mac OS X: RealVNC (http://www.realvnc.com/)
RealVNC (http://www.realvnc.com/) works on Windows, Linux and MacOS if you select "Always use best available colour quality" the Linux and Mac OS X versions are
available as free downloads under Enterprise Edition Viewer.
The mouse is emulated as a USB tablet with absolute positioning. To get the best pointer tracking, you should ensure that your operating system recognises this (use the
evtouch (http://www.docunext.com/blog/2007/07/13/x11qemuvncusbdevicetablet/) driver on Linux with /dev/input/event2 see "dmesg | grep Tablet").
SSH access to Linux servers
All of our Linux installs come with an SSH server preconfigured. You can connect to this SSH server as:
SSH IP: 5.152.181.237
SSH Port: 22
SSH Username: toor
SSH Password: LGuBaLS9
"toor" is a special user equivalent to "root" whose password is set via our control panel. Normal users will also work with their normal passwords.
It is possible to disable toor SSH access to your server by setting a blank SSH password, although the OS SSH server will continue running for other users. You can reenable
toor SSH access by setting a password again.
We recommend PuTTY (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/) as the SSH client for Windows.
Windows Remote Desktop Access to Windows servers
All of our Windows installs come with Windows Remote Desktop preconfigured. When you first boot a new Windows server you will need to connect using VNC to configure
it. After that, you will be able to use Windows Remote Desktop.
