alicante overview

a mediterranean city ―

If diversity is what you are looking for in

your Spanish immersion courses in Spain,
you will find plenty of it in Alicante, in
the Costa Blanca region.

Alicante combines classicism with

modernity, leisure with business, fun
with study, and even mountain and
beach.

The richness of Alicante's history is

preserved through its archaeological
remains. The beauty of its monuments
along with the charm of various
festivities and cultural events held
throughout the year increase the appeal
of the city.

The wonderful beaches and mild

climate all year round make Alicante one
of Spain’s most important tourist areas.

All in all, Alicante is a Mediterranean

city, with its beautiful beaches, its
promenades, its restaurants, cafés and
terraces, its nautical club...

If you go up to the top of the hill of the

Santa Barbara Castle, you will discover
an unforgettable panoramic view of the
most important monuments in Alicante:
the church of Santa Maria, the
Cathedral, the Town Hall façade, the
monastery of Santa Faz, the San
Fernando Castle and much more. Seeing
all these magnificent monuments from
above will invite you to go down the hill
and walk along them.

Along the streets, you will come across

large and small palaces, as well as
traditionally painted white, yellow and
pink houses. Everything is illuminated by
the blue light of the Mediterranean Sea
and encourages you to continue walking
around and discovering places.

The widest avenues, such as La Rambla

or Doctor Gadea will lead you to Alfonso
X el Sabio Street with the Luceros on one
side and the Central Market on the
other, just opposite the School of
Spanish.

host family accommodation

host families ―

Living with a Spanish family is one of the

best ways to get to know the country,
including its culture and its people. It will
also allow students to practice the Spanish
language in a natural way.

The majority of the host families are near

the school, around 10 or 15 minutes
walking. If children live more than 20
minutes walking, we provide them with
bus tickets to go to the school. All the
quarters of the city are connected to the
centre by urban buses running every 10-15
minutes. A person from the host family or
a group leader from Zador accompanies
children to go to the School, the Sport
Camp…

The families are selected and visited

regularly by our staff. In all of them,
students will find a warm atmosphere that
will help them get integrated into the
family and city life very quickly. Families
usually have children with a similar age to
the students.

Students will have a single room or a twin

room for friends or for two students from
the same family coming together.

The family provides the bed linen and

towels, but they must bring their own
towels for the beach. Students will have
laundry once or twice a week and they
should keep their room clean and tidy, and
share the housework with the rest of the
family (“small tasks”).

As in any family around the world, there

are also a series of rules students must
follow: be punctual to meal hours, let the
host know if they are not having lunch or
dinner at home, phone when arriving
late...

Students have to take into account that

the house in Spain is considered a private
family place. Therefore, if children want
to have a guest over, they should ask
permission, keeping in mind that in most
cases the family will not fancy the idea.

All the children should arrive the evening

before the beginning of the Spanish &
Summer Camp and leave the
accommodation the day after the end of
the Programme. Days before or after are
considered extra nights.
*We provide parents all the information about the host family (house description and photos, personal
details, hobbies, profession, age…. Of course, if parents want, the can visit the Host family).

children courses in alicante, spain

host family accommodation

― full board with four meals

Regarding the meals, children will have
full board with 4 meals:

ƒ Breakfast: Breakfast in Spain usually

consists of juice or yogurt, hot
chocolate or coffee with milk, bread
or biscuits, butter and jam or cereals.

ƒ Sandwich (“Bocadillo”) to eat during

the Summer Camp.

ƒ Lunch: During the week, from Monday

to Friday students will have lunch at
the Camp Restaurant with 3 courses
(starters, meat or fish and dessert).
On Saturday children receive usually a
packed lunch with two sandwiches
(“bocadillos”), fruit and drink, thus
they can enjoy the excursions and
trips. On Sunday they have lunch with
the host family. Lunch time in Spain is
between 2.00 p.m. and 3 p.m. and it
is the biggest meal during the day and
it is usually the meeting the whole
family.

ƒ Dinner is around 21:00 during the

week and there is not a fixed time
during the weekends.

ƒ Special requirements: children with

special dietary requirements should
make a note in the enrolment.

All children will receive a “Meal list” to

choose their favorite dishes just as a
suggestion for the host family.

One week before the beginning of the

Spanish Programme, you will be supplied
with the information concerning the
accommodation: host family address,
names, ages, profession, hobbies of the
family and an email to contact them
before arrival just to introduce them.

― some rules in the family

Phone calls and Internet: Children must
use calling cards. The family should be
notified if students want to make reverse
charge calls. To receive phone calls the
limited time is around 10.30 p.m. Internet
and phone access varies by family.

Student expenses: Remember that the

student should pay their own expenses on
excursions, restaurants, cinemas, cafés…
We suggest around € 5- € 8 per day as
pocket money.

children courses in alicante, spain

transfer from the airport

a 24-hour pick-up service ―

Alicante has excellent connections with

other cities in Spain and Europe.

The majority of the students arrive by

plane. The Alicante airport (El Altet) is
located 11 km from Alicante and it takes
about 30 min from the airport to the city
centre. There are domestic and
international flights that connect Alicante
to the main European and Spanish cities.

Transfer service from Alicante airport, bus

station or train station is included in the
package price. A representative of the
school will pick students up at the airport
and bring them directly to their place of
accommodation.

Fill in the corresponding section in the

enrolment form, specifying clearly the
Airline, the flight number, the date and
time of your arrival. It is necessary a
Parental Permission to pick the child up in
case the minor travels alone.

Since Alicante airport is small, you will

quickly see a person with your name that
will be waiting for you when you exit the
terminal.

Zador Spanish school provides you a 24-

hour pick-up service from the airport to go
directly to the accommodation. From
22:00 to 8:00 there is an extra cost.

medical and accidents insurance

All the students are covered by a medical,

accident and travel insurance: INSURANCE
INCOMING PLUS, especially designed to
cover contingencies in foreigners´ trips
taken in Spain, is the most comprehensive
and complete insurance on the market and
recommended by the main receptive
Travel Agencies.

Includes 7 types of insurance in 1: Medical

assistance, with the highest limit on the
