FELLOW PROGRAMME IN MANAGEMENT (INDUSTRY)-2019

CURRICULUM

COURSE WORK

The on-campus course work has three terms in the following manner
Term I Courses

1. Research Course (Candidate’s Area ) : 4 credits

2. Research Course (one other Area) : 4 credits

3. Academic Writing : 2 credits

4. Research Methods-I : 2 credits

Total – 12 credits

1. Duration: 4 weeks
2. Timeline: June/July, 2019

Term II Courses

1. Area Electives : maximum 8 credits

2. Research Methods-II : 4 credits

Total – 12 credits

1. Duration: 4 weeks
2. Timeline: October/November, 2019
3. At the end of Term II, the candidate will be required to form his/her Thesis Advisory
Committee (TAC) as per the laid down norms of the Institute.
AREA QUALIFYING EXAMINATION.
a) After Term-II the candidate will be required to appear for the area qualifying
examination and Area Chairperson will coordinate with the candidate of their
respective area for the exam.
b) The candidate has to successfully clear the exam before commencement of Term-III.
c) The candidate who do not qualify the exam shall be given a second AND last attempt
to complete the requirement.
d) In the event of failure to pass the Area Qualifying exam in the second and last
attempt, the matter will be placed before the FPM Executive Committee and on the
recommendation of the FPM EC the candidate will have to exit from the programme.

Term III Courses

1. Case Teaching – 2 credits

2. Research credits (ending with a Proposal Defense) – 10 Credits

Total – 12 credits

1. Duration: 4 weeks
2. Timeline: April/May, 2020

 The candidate will be required to obtain an overall CGPA of 3.000 or above for passing
the Course work in (Term I, II and III)
 The candidate will start preparing a proposal under the guidance of his/her TAC.
 The candidate will be required to present his/her proposal to the TAC in Term-III and
on approval of the same by TAC, the report will be examined by two other faculty
members.
 Based on the written suggestion/feedback by two other faculty members, the
candidate is expected to present a proposal seminar and successfully defend it within
a period of six months from the date of completion of Term-III. However based on the
progress report duly approved by the TAC, a six monthly extension can be given to the
candidate, failing which, the candidate will be required to either repeat the course
work or exit from the programme.
Requirements after completion of the thesis proposal defense
 After satisfactory completion of the thesis proposal defense, the student starts writing
the thesis up to the satisfaction of his/her TAC.
 On completion of the thesis research, the candidate gives a public seminar, submits
the thesis and defends the same.
 The thesis should be a scholarly contribution to the knowledge pertinent to the
understanding and resolution of management problems. The participant should
demonstrate professional competence in developing a model or a set of hypotheses,
collecting and interpreting data, reaching conclusions, and drawing the implications
for research and managerial practices and maintain high level of academic honesty.
 The candidate will be required to submit his/her progress reports every six months
after the end of Term III.
