Q.2 Write short answers to any EIGHT (8) of the following questions.

(i) Define induced Emf and induced current.
(ii) Define electromagnetic induction.
(iii) Define electromagnetism and give the name of one device in which electromagnetism is used.
(iv) What is motional emf? Give its formula.
(v) A glass rod of length L is moving perpendicular to the applied magnetic field “B” with velocity “v”.
Explain briefly about the induced emf in it.
(vi) Is it possible to change both the area of the loop and the magnetic field passing through the loop and

5.(a) State and drive Faraday’s Law of electromagnetic induction.
(b) A loop of a wire is placed in a uniform magnetic field that is perpendicular to plane of a loop. The
strength of magnetic field is 0.6T. the area of loop begins to shrink at a constant rate of

6.(a) Define energy density. Prove that energy density is directly proportional to the square of magnetic
field.
(b) Two coils are placed side by side. An emf of 0.8 V is observed in one coil when the current is
changing at the rate of 200 As-1in the other coil. What is the mutual inductance of the coil?
7.(a) What is transformer, derive its equation. Also explain loses and power transmission in it.
(b) The current in a coil of 1000 truns is changed from 5 A to zero is 0.2 s. If an average emf of 50 V is induced during this
interval, what is the self inductance of the coil? Wha is the flux through each turn of the coil when a current of 6 A is flowing?
8.(a) Define Alternating current generator. Give its principle, construction and working derive an expression
for induced emf.
(b) A copper ring has a radius of 4.0 cm and resistance of 1.0 mΩ. A magnetic field is applied over the ring, perpendicular to its
plane. If the magnetic field increases from 0.2 T to 0.4 T in a time interval of 5 × 10−3 s, what is the current in the ring
during this interval?
9.(a) Define Lenz’s law.On its basis prove that law of conservation of energy in case of movement of i) bar
magnet towards coil ii) Metal rod placed on parallel metal rails in a uniform magnetic field.
(b) A D.C motor operates at 240 V and has a resistance of 0.5Ω when the motor is running at normal
speed the armature is 15 A. Find the back emf in the armature.
