Term 2, 2020
Short Quiz#1

1. The quiz will cover material from weeks 1-2 of the course material – Introduction, Ricardian
Model and Speci…c Factors Model. The testable material is de…ned by the content of the lectures,
the textbook chapters (speci…c readings are indicated in lecture slides) and the homework/tutorial
program.
2. The quizz will take place on Thursday, 18 June 2020, as scheduled in the course outline. The
quiz will be made available on Moodle under a section called Course Assessments. The quiz will
open at 4:15pm AEST, and you have a 15 minute window (4:15 to 4:30pm) to open and begin
the quiz.

(a) The allowable quiz time is 1 hour from when you open the quiz, plus 10 minutes grace
period.
(b) You are expected to begin uploading your responses no later than the start of the grace period
and to complete uploading shortly thereafter. Once the grace period is over no responses
will be accepted.
(c) The section Course Assessments will contain a link to the quiz and a declaration document.
Please Note: The declaration document must be read and clicked before the quiz can be
accessed.
(d) The Course Assessments section will be visible 15 minutes prior to the start of the quiz.
You should check this for any instructions provided about the quiz.
(e) The quiz is open book. You may refer to any course materials. You can also use a calculator.
(f) On the day of the quizz, all other course contents on Moodle will be closed.
(g) You are not allowed to communicate with, or receive communications from, anyone during
the quiz, other than emailing me with any crucial questions about the quiz. My email is
a.woodland@unsw.edu.au.

3. You should ensure (well ahead of time) that you have in place all the necessary resources needed
to do the quiz. Please carefully read the document entitled "Helpful Instructions for Undertaking
Online Moodle Quizzes" provided in a separate announcement.
4. The quiz may contain several types of questions. These include multiple choice questions (MCQs),
numerical questions (requiring a numerical answer), short answer questions (requiring a word
answer) and "essay" questions. For numerical answers, ensure that your answer is accurate up
to the required number of decimal points. For the word answers, be careful with your spelling.
The "essay" questions require either an answer via text in an answer box or the upload of a
PDF document into the answer box (scan your sheets of paper to PDF using a scanning app on
your phone such as Scanner Pro or Adobe Scan). The "essay" questions typically require you to
provide an explanation or discussion of something, or require you to derive a result. In "essay"
questions, please note that: (a) all working and reasoning must be shown, and (b) marks are
awarded for correct working and reasoning, not just for what might be technically correct answers.
5. Your quiz answers to "essay" questions are to be written neatly, using a black or blue pen, on A4
paper that is lined and has a ruled left-hand margin of at least 2cm width. Each new question is
to begin on the top of a new page and be clearly labelled. You should only write on one side of
a page, which should be numbered at the top right. Please note that if your answer is illegible
(due to poor handwriting or poor scanning), we cannot mark your answer.
6. Consultations cannot take place on the Thursday due to the quiz. Accordingly, the consultation
period will be on Wednesday, 17th June starting at 4:00pm. You may join the open consultation
from 4:00-4:15pm, or may arrange a 15-minute appointment from 4:15-5:30pm via the links pro-
vided in Moodle. Of course, queries can continue to be made through the Ed Question and Answer
Forum on Moodle. Otherwise, online video-conferences may be requested by prior arrangement.
