Lesson Presentation
Topic 1
Electronics Hand Tools and Equipment’s
You can see the meaning of each tools and equipment’s in the presentation
below.
Presentation #1 (PPT.)
Or if you like to understand more, you can watch this video channel in Youtube
about tools, materials and equipment’s in electronics applications.

Topic 2
The use of safety hand tools should be a key component of most school safety
programs.
To greatly reduce the risk of harmful accidents, better understanding the hand
tool’s intended for each use and environment, combined with proper tool selection,
maintenance and storage is important in carrying out the given job or task.
1. Screwdrivers
A. Select screwdriver that’s fit the screw head slot perfectly.
B. Keep the screwdriver’s handle dry, and clean to prevent slippages.
C. Never use a screwdriver as chisel.
D. Never hammer a screwdriver’s handle.
2. Pliers
A. Always keep pliers in good condition by cleaning and regular application of oil.
B. Never use pliers as substitute for a wrench or hammer.
C. Never hammer the pliers when cutting wires.
3. Files
A. When using a file, keep a firm grip on its handle at all times.
B. Do not blow filings as they may get into your eyes.
C. Always use a file card in cleaning a file.
4. Mini drill
A. Hold the mini drill firmly at 90 degrees with the material to be bored and make sure
to tighten the chuck jaw of the mini drill securely before using it.
B. Hold the metal, wood, or plastic firmly on the vise when drilling holes. Do not hold it
with your hands.
C. Clean chips with a brush, not with your hands.
D. Keep the work area always clean by using paint brush.
6. Soldering Gun
A. Do not use this type of the soldering instrument with light soldering work. It might
damage the Electronic components and PCB because of its very high
temperature.
B. If the soldering tip fails to achieve its maximum temperature, tighten the two nuts
holding the tip of the soldering gun.
C. Do not use in mass production assembly. It might be overheated.
D. This type of soldering equipment is more convenient where only few connections
are to be made requiring much higher temperature like direct chassis
soldering.
7. Desoldering tool
A. Heat the terminals to be re-soldered before sucking the melted soldering lead with
the desoldering tool to avoid direct contact of the desoldering tool’s tip
with the tip of the soldering iron.
B. Clean and oil the inside sucking spring and the tip of the desoldering tool regularly
so that the melted soldering lead will not stick permanently inside the
desoldering tool.
If you need to understand more, you can watch this video about how to maintain
tools, materials and equipment’s in electronics applications or laboratory/shops.

If you need to understand more about preventive maintenance of tools, you can see
and download the file below.
Presentation #2
Learning Task
Use and maintenance of hand tool and equipment’s
Task 1
Since electronic product and servicing is covered analog and digital devices, below is
some additional hand tools which is needed in different sizes of devices or
appliances/machine.
https://prezi.com/4xeabstexuzp/basic-tools-and-equipments-used-in-electronics-and-
their-fun/
You can download the file below and it can also serve as a handouts for this topic.
Task 2
Before you proceed to the next task, you need to answer the test below by classifying the
different kinds of hand tools according to their specification in electronics applications.
Note: You need to get 10 points in order to proceed on the next task.
Classification
1. Magnifying Glass Auxiliary Tools
2. Screwdriver Driving Tools
3. Portable Electric Bill Boring Tools
4. Soldering Iron Soldering Tools
5. Long Nose Pliers Holding Tools
6. Blade Cutter Cutting Tools
7. Multitester Measuring Tools
8. Soldering Stand Soldering Tools
9. Tweezer Holding Tools
10. Wire Stripper Splicing Tools
Now you need to identify if the following situations are correct in maintaining hand tools
and equipment’s. You can choose TRUE is the statement is correct and FALSE if not.
1. Provide a safety cabinet for all the hand tools and assign a specific area for each tool.
TRUE
2. Tools should be cleaned after returning them to the tool rack. Before FALSE
3. Damage hand tools should be repaired. TRUE
4. Apply oil on all moving parts if possible. TRUE
5. Cover the sharp parts of the tools with a cork when not in use. TRUE
Task 3
If you understand the applications of hand tools and equipment’s in electronics, answer at
least ONE questions briefly.
1. Why do you think is it best to use the right size of the Philips screwdriver?
2. Why do you think is it best to use the right size of a drill bit in boring a hole in the metal?
3. Why do you think is it best for a soldering iron to have its soldering stand? For you
proceed to the next task, you need to answer the test below by classifying the
different.
D. Engagement
To test your skills in identifying hand tools and materials in electronics and it’s
maintenance, you are going to perform the following instructions using appropriate hand
tools and materials used in electronic applications.
Using your cellphone camera/video, record a 2 minutes video of yourself in doing this
activity and post it on this link ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/492797670881582/ ).
Here are the task/job you need to do. Remember choose ONLY ONE (1).
a. Cut different sizes of wires using side cutting and long nose pliers.
d. Tighten and loosen screws of different head slots using different types of screw
drivers.

E. Assimilation
Abstraction
Many types of industrial or residential work, hand tools are essential everyday
life. Various hand tools make our work easier and to be more efficient. Yet, some of you
failed to see and understand the importance of proper used associated with electronics
types of jobs or works.
Remember, in assembling an electronic project and making it work is a good
start to learn troubleshooting methods or techniques as well as to familiarizing us in
various hand tools, and test equipment’s used in electronic product and servicing
application.
