Objectives:
This course would provide an introductory overview of the entire management processes and
acquaint the engineering and science students with some management principles/techniques. These
processes have extensive uses in business, engineering and research fields.

This course is designed to introduce the students to the fundamentals of Management. It intends [1]
to facilitate the students’ understanding of the link between engineering and corporate strategy as
well as that between management decisions and decisions of other functional areas, [2] to
familiarize the students with the tools/techniques used in management to assess various trade-offs
and to make decisions.

At the end of the course, the students should be able:


A. To understand managerial challenges of the changing world, management functions, management
involvement to get competitive advantages.
B. To find and to analyze environmental forces that influences organization and to know how to
respond/adapt to the environments.
C. To know all about decision making and to understand how to use tools and techniques to take
creative decisions.
D. To understand planning, planning processes and strategic planning and to know how companies can
achieve competitive advantages through good planning and good strategy.
E. To know all about organization structure and to construct good organization’s structure to execute
plan and to achieve organizational goals.
F. To know how to manage human resources to gain competitive advantages.
G. To understand all about leadership and to know how a good leader can motivate all to achieve
organizational goals.
H. To know how to supervise, monitor and work as per plans and to control the execution of the plans.
I. To understand all about team, change management and international business.

Course Policies:
Students would be allowed to miss maximum of two classes without losing any grade during pre mid-term
and post mid-term section. For missing each additional class(s) (i.e. from third missing class), 0.5 mark
would be deducted. Class performance means contribution of the student to the class. Time to time you
would be asked questions in the class room to check your attentiveness in the class. If the response is
satisfactory then you would get marks for the assigned Class Performance.

No abusive or bad words would be allowed inside the class room. If anybody is found using any abusive or
bad word inside the class room, he/she would be immediately dropped from this course and the disciplinary
committee of the university would be informed about it.

All the quizzes are unannounced. No make up of the quizzes would take place.

It is mandatory that every student would come to the class with his/her ID card visible. If any student found
without the ID card visible would not be allowed to continue the class and his/her attendance would be
cancelled.
