How to Kill a
“David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine;
your servant will go and fight him.”
--1 Samuel 17:32

What is the secret to triumph over a giant? How can the impossible be done? Most
people look at history’s most famous giant slaying, David vs. Goliath, and think of it
purely as an act of God, a miracle. But God was not the only one who acted in this
great triumph. David gives us a manual to become giant slayers in our own right:
#1: We have to be eager to serve. With Goliath looming, the Israelite army with thousands of its warriors stood back, frozen in their
fear, for over 40 days talking about what to do about the situation. David shows up to the scene and quickly decides to fight the giant.
While David might not have been the fiercest warrior present, he was the most eager.
#2: We must be confident in God drawing upon past providence in our lives. David looks to his past victories for confidence. When
Saul objects to David fighting, David recites his past victories over lions and bears that God has given him. “Your servant has killed
both the lion and the bear and this Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the living God,” David says to Saul.
#3: We must fight in the way we know how. We must trust God in our gifts and talents that he has given us. Saul gives David all of
his armor. Armor that was a necessity for any warrior in the Israelite army. But David rejects them, saying, “I cannot go in these
because I am not used to them.” David wanted to fight in the way he knew best: armed with just a sling and stone.

own land, a giant that
taunts us everyday.
30 to 40 million people are infected with AIDS
globally; around two-thirds of them reside in
Sub-Saharan Africa. The most tested and
battle-hardened of organizations and
governments are still searching for answers in
this losing battle. While billions have been
spent in this fight, 2.7 million people were
newly infected in 2007. These numbers are
increasing at a tragic rate. Books have been
written, money spent, and speeches given but
this is a giant that cannot be killed. What is the
secret to triumph over this giant? How can the
impossible be done?

“I believe God gets the most glory when, in his

name, we take down the biggest giants. That's
what little David did with Goliath. Since HIV/
AIDS is the biggest giant on our planet right
now, then there's got to be some Davids out
there who can take it down for God's glory.
When the giant of HIV/Aids falls, we want God
to get the glory. That is what should motivate us
all in this ministry. In Isaiah 49, God says he
wants his glory to be global. Our objective is the
global glory of God.”
