Structure of entries
Each headword is followed by its part of speech information in brackets. Generally, this
should be straightforward, adv. indicating adverb, conj. indicating conjunction and so
on. However, nouns and adjectives are marked by a two-part abbreviation indicating
both the part of speech and declension. Thus an abbreviation like no. indicates a neuter
o-stem. Verbs are marked with v followed by their conjugation group, thus v3 indicates
a Group III verb.
After the part of speech information follows the gloss. Where the headword is a verb,
the gloss is followed by the verb’s principal parts: the 3rd person preterite, the 3rd
person present subjunctive, the past participle and the verb-noun, in that order. Note
also that seperable verbs are indicated by means of a mid-dot.
Etymological information follows, enclosed in square brackets. Finally are any cross-
references, indicated by a double arrow .
