Last but not least, we are very thankful to the company that we already interview
them in last 4 weeks ago. They are very collaborative with us also very open minded in some
cases because there few question that was quite sensitive for them to answer it. But, the
overall that we had done is very satisfying from what we expected than what we get. Not
even their manager looks so friendly but all the staff in their company are well-trained and
had such great greet from them once a customer step in to their restaurant. Everyone will feel
like they are so welcoming by somebody in there.

6.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Nur Networks Printing Services is the digital printing startup located in the Complex
Dahlia UiTM Puncak Alam. Mr. Alihan Bin Abdul Magfir Khan is the owner of the
company. Nur Networks Printing Services has been providing a high quality supply, install
and service works for IT and Electronics products. Mr. Alihan was set up this company for
past three years since 2016. It is a sole proprietorship type of business entity that owned by
one person which there is no legal distinction between the owner and the business entity.

Nur Networks offers a range of IT and electronics products specifically for education,
business and industrial purposes. This company was registered as Dell Partner Direct and also
with relevant private & Malaysian government authorities with certified Sijil Kementerian
Kewangan / Ministry of Finance (MOF) and Bumiputra status. Furthermore, Nur Networks
also offers a range of value added services that are tailor made for their client to support them
in meeting their short and long term objectives.

At Nur Networks, they believe for being proactive and innovative also will promote
continual improvement that increase efficiency and improve quality. This company also has
expanding their business at UiTM Puncak Alam as it already has three branches that operated
at there. The first business of Mr. Alihan is at Kolej Dahlia, UiTM Puncak Alam. This
business achieves unexpected customers since it is only the shop that provides printing
service at there.

Then, it is expanding to other part of faculty in UiTM Puncak Alam, which is at Alam
Bina. Then, the latest shop that he opens is locating at the main center of students to have
their lunch which is at Plaza Satelit B (PSB). This kind of business has shown that Mr Alihan
is a successful entrepreneur whom he can manage all his business well and full with
marketing strategic.

7.0 INTRODUCTION

7.1 Background of the study

All UiTM students who further their study at bachelor level need to take Principles of
Entrepreneurship course to give guideline and expose students to the business orientation. In
this course, students will conducting case study to any business or company. In this case
study, students are required to interview any small company or business. After that students
should analyze the problem and find solution for any problems that faced by the company or
business. Analyzing the case study requires you to practice applying your knowledge and
thinking skills in real situation. The benefit of this case study is students will be more
intelligence in conducting business. Students also will be exposed on how company operating
their business. Thus, this case study is the good medium to teach students on how to solve
problems.

Entrepreneurship is the process of designing, launching and running a new business,


which is often initially a small business. The people who create these businesses are called
entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship has been described as the "capacity and willingness to
develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks to make a profit.
According to Schumpeter, an entrepreneur is a person who is willing and able to convert a
new idea or invention into a successful innovation.

From this case study, our teams are deciding to choose “Nur Network” to be our aim
company. Which is the business provide printing services as the main activities in the
company. We decide to do this case study on company who has SSM. So from that, we can
learn how this company learns to manage their printing service shop and also their potential
to attract the customers that can give them a high profit of sales. Our group want to get
information on problem that faced by this company. Moreover, by doing a research about
case study, we can know how to be a successful entrepreneur by gain more knowledge about
how the company operating, the way they manage their marketing management to make sure
they do not loss their customers and also learn how to manage the financial costs of their
company in the future. They also can share and exchange the information of their knowledge
with others. So from that, we will know their strong and weakness.

7.2 Problem statement

To be an entrepreneur, there are many challenges that must overcome and couple of the
problems are:

 Manage business

NUR NETWORKS is a printing shop service that operates at UiTM Puncak Alam,
Selangor. The significant issue for this situation is it owned by one owner only. It is
sole proprietorship business. This owner has to manage three branches of his business
by his own. So, sometimes he got some difficulties to manage it. From that, we can
use the solution of finding a good ways to provide more staff to the shop. So, they can
help him by learning the skills of manage the machines and also the talent in attract
many customers to come to his shop.

 Financing
Experienced entrepreneurs don’t have it easy when it comes to funding a new
business, but they do have a few advantages over newcomers. They might have a pool
of capital from a business they previously sold or a steady stream of revenue they can
use to can use to fund a new business’s cash flow.

 Teambuilding
This is especially hard if you’ve never run or managed a team before, but even if you
have management experience, picking the right team for a stat-up is stressful and
difficult. It’s not enough to find candidates who fill certain roles. You also need to
consider their cost to the business, their culture fit and how they’ll work as part of
your overall team. Such considerations are exceptionally hard when you’re under the
pressure of filling those positions as soon as possible.

7.3 Purpose of the study


The purpose of the study is to learn on how to analyze business and also put it into
perspective. Other than that, it is a way to understand more about the business and to learn
on how business works and learn directly from the owner. This is a good exposure

especially where the students will be able to know the dos and don’ts in business and learn
other strategy.

8.0 COMPANY INFORMATION

8.1 Background

Nur Networks was established in 2013 start as an electronic appliance supplier. This
company is registered as sole proprietorship company who owned by Mr. Alihan Bin Abdul
Magfir Khan. Then in 2016, Mr. Alihan managed to open up 3 physical shop at UiTM
Puncak Alam started at Complexs Dahlia, Plaza Satelit B and Alam Bina. Nur Networks is
providing services for students and lectures in UiTM Puncak Alam that is high quality and
reasonable price which are printing, photost, binding, laptop repair and others.

From 2016, Nur Networks has three branches which all their physical store in UiTM
Puncak Alam. Mr. Alihan open up his business in that particular area is because the location
are very strategic to reach the target market. This is because it is within the educational area
(University Technology MARA Puncak Alam). Nur Networks contribute for RM 1 800 for
the rental in all of the three places. The company start the business with RM 120 000 for the
capital contribution which is from their previous business.

Nur Networks has this strong belief that their services is important for most of the
students within the university. Holding on to this strong belief, Nur Networks aims to provide
a sufficient services to the students within the campus. The business also pledged to provide a
high quality services and product to its customer to ensure brand loyalty and satisfied
customer. They aims to strengthen the current branches before continue in expanding their
business to ensure they are ready.

The organizational structure above shows the structure of an organization and the
relationships and the relative ranks of its part and positions. This is according to the hierarchy
based and it is a crucial factor to know the hierarchy of an organization to determine which is
responsible for which operation management.

From the above figure, it shows the organizational structure for Nur Networks. The
positions stated resemble their main duty towards the organizations but they usually work
together on daily basis in completing each task. Due to the fact that the business is owned by
a single owner and is a sole proprietorship in nature, there are less need of various positions
within the business because the owner is the one will do the management, marketing and
others task.

8.3 Product / Services

The product and services that Nur Networks provide mostly what is demanded by the
students in the campus. The product that provided by the business is electronic products such
as powerbank, speaker, earphones, adapter, usb cable, graphic card and some other products.

In term of services, the company provide services such as printing services,


TouchnGo top up, photocopy, internet surfing, gaming and other service such as laptop
repair.

8.4 Business, Marketing, Operational Strategy

i) BUSINESS STRATEGY
Business strategies are defined as the course of action or set of decisions which assist
the entrepreneurs in achieving specific business objectives. For Nur Network, they came out
with their various services offered to cater the demand of the massive number of students
within the campus. They also offer product such as electronic products at their counter.
Besides that, in order the keep their customer from shift to another company, the company
always taking good care of the quality of their product every time they produced. Before they
start their daily operations, the owner will inspect all the machines and computer to ensure it
is at its best standard.

The location itself is one of the strategy as the place is easy for the target market to
reach where the customer is very close by. There is no better location to choose from other
than within the campus for that kind of business model because if the owner open’s their
business outside from campus, their business getting wider as they need to provide other
services too. This strategy is a kind of advantages to owner since they just have to fulfil the
students need only such as printing service.

ii) OPERATIONAL STRATEGY

Operational strategies refer to the methods companies use to reach their objectives.
By developing operational strategies, a company can examine and implement effective and
efficient systems for using resources, personnel and the work process. Nur Networks using
standard of procedure in the operational strategy in order to make the business run smoothly.
For example, if they will have customer who want to purchase the printing service they will
be able to print their materials by choosing a computer that have complete instructions on
which printer their materials will be printed, how to print, how to change the colour and the
price of the services.

iii) MARKETING STRATEGY

Marketing strategy is a long-term, forward-looking approach to planning with the


fundamental goal achieving a sustainable competitive advantage. Marketing strategy is one of
the important elements that need to be included in a company to help them attract their target
market to buy their product. It is an organization’s strategy to combine all of their marketing
goals into one comprehensive plan.

a) Price
Nur Networks use low pricing strategy and also value based pricing. The price
that the company offered is affordable with service and products offered. It is
worth for the customer from all social class to purchase product from Nur
Networks. This help the company to rapidly build market share with their
competitors such as printing service provider nearby that have been dominating
the market for quite a while.

b) Distribution
For distribution channel, Nur Networks whereby they do depend the sale from the
company itself. To achieve this, the company has identified multiple channels in
the market to help them to capture larger market shares within the area. They
spread the product through branches at Plaza Satelit B, Alam Bina and Dahlia
Hostel Building.

c) Promotion
In their early business, Nur Networks have promoted their shops by giving a
discount to their customers and they also used a banner to make sure that their
customer knew about the business that they are provide. Nur Networks using
some platform in order to reach out and to create brand awareness to the customer
in their Instagram Page and WhatsApp. After their shops already known by their
customers, for Nur Networks, they believe that there is not much marketing
needed for their business because there are enough awareness and the customer is
the one who keep looking for them especially in the end of the semester. The
company also believes the power of positive good of mouth which is the students
spread about their shops to their classmates.

8.5 Financial Achievements

The initial amount of capital invested by Nur Networks is approximately at RM120


000 which comes from personal savings. They did not apply any forms of loans from any
financial institutions and also does not get any form of assistance during the start-up of the
business. At early stage, the owner need to bear an estimation cost of RM15 000 to open this
business that includes the renovation, interior designs, buying raw materials and related costs.
The place of operation for the business has been rented by the owner at a rental cost of RM21
600 per year.

They hire part-time workers with a basic of RM150 to RM200 per week. For
permanent worker salaries in a range of RM1200 – RM1500 each month. The owner also
hired a maintenance to provide services if their machines has damaged. All payment for
workers are paid through bank-in transfer. The estimate of their worker’s salary that the
owner need to paid is RM 15 000. For the utility bills, the owner paid RM 1900 in a month
to generate an electricity for their shops.

The estimated sales per month amounted RM90 000 per month. The sales have been
expected to grow from month to month since the business started, especially during seasonal,
such as during the end of the semester. The company has a good financial health due to the
continuous demand from the students in term of printing and also other services. This will
eventually contribute to the company growth and expansion in the future.

9.0 COMPANY ANALYSIS

9.1 The Business Modal Canvas (BMC)

1. Customer Segments
I. Students of UiTM Puncak Alam, Selangor. This business is targetting both
male and female students. The average age of UiTM students is 19-30 years
old. The owner of NUR NETWORKS expected all the students are in lower
level income and middle level income. NUR NETWORKS chose students as
their first customer segment because of the student’s needs and lifestyle. The
students really need all the services that provided by NUR NETWORKS such
as printing, photocopy and so on. This services can help students submit their
assignments easily because of the location is only in UiTM. In addition, most
students not have their own vehicle to go outside when they need printing
service.
II. Lecturers of UiTM Puncak Alam, Selangor. There is no sepeific gender which
means both male and female can use this service. The average age of UiTM
lecturers is 35-50 that will come to the shop. The level income is middle level
income and high level income. Lecturers also need printing and photocopy
service to print or make a copy of exam papers and the other works.

2. Value Proposition
Value proposition refers to a business or marketing strategy that company uses
to summarize why a customer should buy a product or use a service. This
strategy simply tells a customer why you to buy a product from a company
rather than buying it from other company. The value proposition for this
company are dedication to customers, high quality printing, personal and
reliable service, quick turn-around time, hands-on managers, who understand
print needs and deadlines, and competitive price. The customers feel easy to
use the service as the owner put the instructions and notes such as what the
settings that customers need to change, which computer can use for black and
white and so on. Then, this shop provide many of number of computers
complete with tables and chairs. So, student can do their work comfortabally.
This shop also have good air-conditionar service. In addition, NUR
NETWORKS provide high speed internet. This is important because

nowadays students more likely to use e-mail compared to use a pendrive. So
they need speed internet to sign in the e-mail. Furthermore, NUR
NETWORKS not only provide printing and photocopy service, but they also
provide some computers for students playing games with comfortable space
and affordable price. The owner create this idea for students to rest after tiring
day. Last but not least, NUR NETWORKS have sell interesting product which
is the accessories of computers and phone. For example, wireless mouse,
pendrive, ink printer, wireless keyboard, powerbank and so on.

3. Customer relationship
NUR NETWORKS had a personal relationship with its customer where each
and every customer that visit the store is served by the general workers from
the moment they enter the store until they left the store. The manager role is
when something diffilculties happens, the manager will discuss with customer
to make sure the problem settle completely. So, this is to form a personal
relationship with each customer and make them feel comfortable which will
bring higher chance in repeat purchase in the future.

4. Channels
NUR NETWORKS have a channel to make sure their company knows by
customers. This company only use electronic media to make a promotion. The
manager will update advertising and news in Instagram and Whatsapp. The
advertising such as sell new product, time of daily activities, new promotion
and others.

5. Key activities
Printing and photocopy services is one of the main activities in this company.
Other than that, they sell hardwares of computer and handphone. The most
interesting activities at this shop is they provide repair computers and
handphone service. This service will handle by the manager and some other
workers. Then, the way the manager find the suppliers is by ask a help from
his friends to get the number.

6. Key resources
The manager use his own money from his saving for the start-up business
money and capital. For the equipment such as printing machine, photocopy
machine, computers and furnitures, the manager bought it using with his own
money. This company do not request for a loan. Then, for the stationary such
as papers, staples and the others neccessary things provided by RAINBOW
company to NUR NETWORKS that will be paid by using company money.
Lastly, internet

7. Key partners
Firstly, Smartphone accessories at Klang that provided accessories for phone
that will be sell at the shop. Secondly, Computer accessories at Klang which
provided the computer things that will be sell. Thirdly, RAINBOW company
is supplierholder to NUR NETWORKS from the business start until now for
paper and and stationaries. Lastly, ink provided by Copytron.

8. Cost structure
First, cost for marketing and advertising not too high because this company
only use electonoc media to promote their business. Second, cost for salaries
and wages. Third, maintenance when they need outsider to overcome the
problems. Forth, rental of the shop for run the business. Then, cost of
suppliers. After that, cost for new equipment if there is addition or substitution.
Moreover, cost for utilities. Lastly, cost of business agreement.

9. Revenue streams
NUR NETWORKS get revenue from printing services, internet surfing,
gamming services and repair service.

9.2 SWOT Analysis

Every business has its own strengths and weakness as well as Nur Network. The strength that
Nur Network has is spacy store layout. The wide area of the premises allows equipment such
as machines, chairs and desks to be arranged in a neat way. Customers who come to the store
also feel comfortable when they are getting a service from them when the store is crowded.
Nur Network also have complete printing services because the equipment that they have are
completed such as printers and photostat machines. Nur Network has high levels of customer
satisfaction. The customers give a good feedback and they like the service because the high
quality of printing that Nur Network give. Besides, they also give positive word of mouth by
recommending services to others. This business is near to target market and increasing in
demand. This is because cyber café be the needs to students to print, or do their assignment
and the prices offered for printing services are also reasonable. Nur Network have three
branches in the same campus which is located at Plaza Satelit B (PSB), Kolej Dahlia and
Budisiswa nearby Kompleks Alam Bina. The services they provide are a rapid process in the
delivery of services and products.

Besides of that, Nur Network also have its own weakness which is it must always
keeping up with the latest hardware technology but it is dependent on the quickly changing
technology in the market. In addition, the target of customer is limited only to student in
UiTM Puncak Alam and it will affect the development of Nur Network especially during
semester breaks. This business also do not pay much attention to marketing because it only
dependent on word of mouth and also just market from social media which is Instagram
(unidigital_level4) and Whatsapp. Nur Network has many competitors surround their store in
less than 1 km radius. It's hard for them to find new customers where they often go to the
stores they used to go to.

The opportunity of Nur Network is they provide fast product delivery to consumers. This
store can help customers in need of fast print service or get the print out right away without
taking too long. Nur Network also provide gamer friendly outlet for student who is for
students who like to play online games to fill their leisure time or relieve stress. Besides, Nur
Network also able to cater demand for laptop repair. Students who is living in the campus do
not have to go far to get a laptop repair service. Students can save on the cost of going out
and getting student price deals from Nur Network for laptop repair service. Nur Network

gained a huge number of customers especially at the end of the semester. This is because at
the end of the semester students are busy preparing for assignments and printing assignments.

Every business must have its own threat in doing business. Nur Network has several
threat when they run their business. Nur Network has competitor which is next to their
premise, printing service at Fakulti Sains Kesihatan 6 (FSK6) and printing service Angsana
Cafe. Nur Network needs to compete with them to gain more profit and get more customers.
This business also has to face economy rise where it affects buyer purchasing power. A high
economy makes customers think about buying and selling activities. Many students also
bring their own printing machines to save money and time to go to the store.

10.0 FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

We have done an interview session with Encik Alihan Bin Abd Maghfir Khan, owner of Nur
Networks at his premise which is at Plaza Satelit B (PSB), UiTM Puncak Alam on Friday 27
September 2019. Encik Alihan was graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). He
took Diploma and Degree in Electrical Engineering and Master in I-Technology. He is a
single owner of his business. At his young age, he already has three premises and all of that
are located in UiTM Puncak Alam campus.

Before he got involved in the retailing business, Encik Alihan did a trading business.
He was a supplier of laptop accessories for government sector and also private sector. He is
interested in IT and that was one of the reasons why he started doing printing services, laptop
repairing and etc. In 2016, the first business of retailing that Encik Alihan opened up was at
the Dahlia Café and followed up by opening two new premises at Plaza Satelit B (PSB)
building and also at Budisiswa nearby Kompleks Alam Bina.

The business hour for Nur Networks is from 7:30 am until 11:00 pm at Dahlia Café and
Budisiswa while at PSB UiTM Puncak Alam, their business hour will end at 7:00 pm. The
full time workers will start their work at 7:30 am until 7:30 pm and the part time worker will
take over the works and will end their works at 11:00 pm. The business that is owned by
Encik Alihan is operated smoothly and has high profitability because there were handled by
18 workers where it is included part time worker.

Nur Network is actually providing service and product items for sale. The example of
service that provided at Nur Networks are printing, photocopy, repairing, surfing, binding,
Touch n Go top-up, gaming and so on. For product item that available at Nur Network are
cable wires for mobile phone, mouse, ICT and phone accessories, earphones, ink printer,
paper and so on. For the printing services, the computers that are used to print are owned by
Nur Networks. It is an advantage for the owner because they do not need to pay for any
computer rental because they own all of the computers. Encik Alihan has the abilities to fix
the printing machines and it has saved a lot as in the business cost because there is no cash
flowed out to fix any of the machines.

Nur Network focuses on customers around UiTM Puncak Alam which are the students
and lecturers for sure. The services of printing, photocopy, repairing that are provided by Nur
Network are essentials especially to the students that really need this service to settle all their
paperwork, assignments and so on because not all students are having their own printing

machines. Many students regardless of the age and gender, go to Nur Networks to use the
services and also to buy accessories such as cable wire for mobile phone, power bank, mouse
and so on.

Nur Networks has their key partners in running the business. The suppliers for all the
papers and ink are from Rainbow Company and Copytron Company. While for the laptop,
computer and phone accessories, the supplier for all these things are from AMT Company
located at Klang, Selangor. The supplier for the machines is June Wave. Encik Alihan will
order for the paper and ink for all the branches in UiTM Puncak Alam and divided the
supplies to each premises.

Nur Network can be categorized as one of the successful business because the owner
can open more branches in UiTM Puncak Alam. It shows that the business of Nur Network is
success because the demand for printing services of Nur Network is high. The customers
which are the students, lecturers or workers around UiTM Puncak Alam have always target
Nur Network as their first choice of printing services or anything else.

The owner has been estimated the net profit for last year was RM80,000 to RM90,000
in a year. It shows that, the quality of services and product that Nur Networks provides is
accepted by the students and has been the most favorite among them. Nur Network also has
devised a number of strategic and unique marketing strategies for helping to improve the
company’s performance. The main strategy used by the management is always a good
relationship with all of the customers and suppliers for a long term.

Nur Networks has been operated for almost five years. With the abilities of the owner
and help of experience workers, the business operates smoothly. The high quality of services
and product offers by Nur Networks can attract more customers to come to their place. The
more profit that they get, the more success they can achieve.

11.0 CONCLUSION

NUR NETWORKS had started and operated their business since three years ago that
was in 2015. This business has faced a lot of challenge and despite all the mistakes they have
made, they already make it as their spirit to become more successful entrepreneur and
overcomes all their mistakes. From our observation and interview, Encik Alihan and his team
create a friendly environment as they approach us with smile and good attitudes with soft
spoken. By having a high income of sales in a month that has an average around RM 60,000,
NUR NETWORKS is already get their place in market place. They also successfully open
three branches of printing service shop in UiTM Puncak Alam, Selangor. Their competitors
also compete in good ways and really help each other in improve their business. The prices
also are affordable and suitable for students to use their service. From the interview that has
been done, we are sure that NUR NETWORKS will become more successful in future and
can reach their level of company in the eyes of the world.

12.0 RECOMMENDATION AND IMPROVEMENT

Based on the alternatives solution that we had listed for the problems that the business
faced, here we had analysed and evaluate the best suggestion to solve and handle the
problems.

For the first major problem that is, there are not enough management worker within
the company has contributed to the over utilization of the owner’s time and energy that has
contributed to loss of focus and fatigue. This is a huge problem where there should be some
sort of support for the top management to ensure other areas such as managing, accounting,
monitoring and etcetera can be done more effective and efficiently. This is important to
ensure there are enough focus in planning for the future of the business by the owner.

The second problem is, the business won’t run during the semester break and this is
not healthy where they might be continuously stop operations for more than a month. We
would recommend for the business to at least open and external branch outside of the campus
to ensure there will be enough money to cover cost. The business still need to pay rental and
this will make the owner suffer a financial loss where there are not even breakeven.

The third problem is, there are not enough demand for gaming within the area. We
believe that the business should open gaming services nearby the hostels to ensure there are
sufficient of demand. The gaming that they provide in their shop will not fulfil the demands
of the students because the store is quite far from the hostels.

The fourth problem is, there are not enough marketing within the business to attract
more customer. We believe that there is always customer as long as the quality and price of
the services and products is reasonable. But we also believe that it is important for the
company to build their brand, not for the current business but for the future.

Lastly, due to the facts that they offer laptop repair service, we also believe that the
company should add also phone repair service. This is important because there is huge
number of demand of phones repair and there are no legal business yet catering this demand
within the
