The atomic bomb

The atomic bomb is one of the most destructive weapons created by man to date. Despite having
more than half a century of life, there has been no discovery that exceeds it. Only the United States
has been the only country to use the atomic bomb in wars. However, there are nine countries that
also possess nuclear weapons, including the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France,
China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea.

I believe that the use of nuclear weapons is a real danger to the world and to humanity. The
destructive power of these weapons is really amazing and, at the same time, overwhelming, we
could verify it with the first one that was launched in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagazaki
in 1945.

Currently, the destructive power of these weapons is even greater. Larger, more powerful than the
one that destroyed these two cities, for example, the Russian bomb of the Tsar (the most powerful
in the world) has a destructive power of 50 megatons that is equivalent to 3333 times the power of
Hiroshima.

I will talk a little about the history of the atomic bomb. When the Second World War began, the
physicist Albert Einstein sent a letter to the president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt,
requesting the creation of the "Manhattan project", whose main objective was the development of
the atomic bomb. On the other side of the world, the German leader Adolf Hitler had already started
with the "uranium project".

At first, the "Manhattan Project" was not taken very seriously, until the British government warned
the US government. On possible developments in the "Uranium Project" in Germany, which was
when they were assigned.

From 1942 to 1946, the "Manhattan Project" was under the direction of Major General Leslie
Groves of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, while the nuclear physicist Robert
Oppenheimer was the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory. The one that manufactured the
nuclear bombs.

The race to obtain the atomic bomb lasted a total of 6 years, until finally the United States was
successful.

The main idea was not to exploit the atomic bomb to win the war, if not, that the Germans would
surrender only to see its destructive power. In fact, there was no need to launch the bomb in
Germany, since in 1945 Germany surrendered.

On the other hand, the United States was still at war with the country of Japan in the Pacific War.
Despite having lost most of their battles, Japan never seemed to want to surrender, so the new
president of the United States, Harry S. Truman, decided to launch the Little Boy nuclear weapon in
Hiroshima on Monday, August 6, 1945, followed of the detonation of the Fat Man bomb on
Thursday, August 9 over Nagasaki. Between 105,000 and 120,000 people died and 130,000 were
injured. To date, these bombings are the only nuclear attacks in history.

As a result of these 2 events, they left us with many human and material losses, however, it left a
great reflection until the moment of using this type of energy. So much so, that even today people
still wonder if it really was necessary to throw these bombs by the US Army. UU For Japan to
surrender.

Personally, I think that it was indeed necessary to launch these bombs, not only to end the war, but
also to understand all that we can cause with the use of these weapons and, therefore, have the
respect that this energy deserves.

In addition, after this great invention, the use of nuclear energy began to be used in a more correct
way, for example, in the field of medicine to detect early diseases, or in the use of nuclear energy to
make the energies be more efficient. At that time they were modern.

In conclusion, the atomic bomb is an invention that revolutionized both the way of seeing the world
and also, in the economic aspect, had both its damages and its collateral benefits. But there is
something that should be emphasized, if I had not used this device, things would be very different
today, both for good and for bad.

It is not known what happened in reality, since the positions of the countries at that time were too
frimes and their ideologies were very different.

Today there are peace treaties, of the countries and organizations that were created after the end of
the Second World War; that determine the prohibition of the use of these weapons, or rather, the
adequate control for the use of these weapons.

Although there is still the risk of its violation by the world powers. So this is where humanity can
not do anything anymore, since a modern nuclear bomb represents the danger of the whole world.
