I was happy to see my improvenments after taking a second practice exam on Evolve.

Even
though my improvements were little I’m still very proud of myself. I am still not happy and
satisfied by my overall score. I feel a little more confident compared to last time that I took an
Evolve practice exam. Now that my NBDHE has been scheduled fourth time I have lost some
motivation over time. I feel exhausted from studying from December 2019 all the way to now. I
do have a plan in mind to keep preparing myself for this big exam. I plan to take a break from
studying and start again in June. This will give me a break and gain strenght to keep studying. In
June I want to keep reviewing the courses from Studentrdh national board review package. I
want to commit to do one Studentrdh course per day.

As before I score higher on instrumentation, medical emergencies, and head and neck anatomy.
These three areas I feel very confident on, but I still think is a good idea to keep reviewing them.
I was not impress with my results since I also scored higher on this area on the previous practice
exam.

My weakness is oral pathology and pointing out structures on radiographs. I was not surprised by
the results because I did struggled last time with these same subjects. Oral pathology class was
not my forte during previous quarters. I think I scored low on this areas because some of the
condition’s name are similar so it gets me cofused. I really want to keep working hard on oral
pathology because to me is very important to know this stuff to provide the best for my future
patients not just to pass the NBDHE.

My last quarter strategy was to spend more time on the areas I was struggling with. I felt like I
improved a little but not as much as I would have liked. Last quarter I planned to spend 2 hours
every week day studying and on weekeends spend 4 hours studying. I planned to listen to the
studentrdh videos while at the gym and going from school to home. I believe my stragety helped
me improved in some areas where I received lower scores last quarter.

When June comes I want to complete one Studentrdh course per day. I want to take my time with
every course, watch the videos, do the quizzes, and read the notes. I believe this time around I’m
going to be able to go through each course faster since this will be my third time doing this. I
will be studying by myself because this works best for me.I have also found new methods to
study more. I have bought the Andyrdh app and hygiene decks. My plan is still to focus on areas
that I’m struggling, like radiology, pharmacolgy, and oral pathology.

I like Darby’s Comprehnsive Review of Dental Hygiene by Blue to review for the case studies
part of the exam. I think if the dental hygiene program made NBDHE mandatory with the scores
being part of our grade then we will really commit to studying. Like for example, giving us
timed exams of random questions on canvas simulating the real exam will help alot and push us
to prepare more. Specially because some people start studying for it 2 weeks prior to the exam
and really only retain the information to pass the test and not to eeducate and care for the
patients. We have to remember that we are studying not only to pass a test but to save lifes. I
think the dental hygiene program can make optional an online review course, some people might
learn better by studying on their own. I would recommed to start studying for the exam at least
three moths prior. This way you will feel more confident knowing that you really spend the time
to study. Making a studying schedule and being consistent is key to preparing for this big exam.
