Furuno Felcom 15/16 & Nera Mini-C SSAS: Configuration instructions

for routing Alert messages via Pole Star

Section 1 – Notes

Note 1: Before following these instructions, it is essential to ensure that the SSAS system you
are about to configure has been registered with Pole Star, otherwise the alert messaging will not
work. If in doubt, please contact your Pole Star agent or sales contact and quote the 9 digit
mobile number (IMN) of the Inmarsat C SSAS transceiver.

Note 2: The SSAS system should be tested in conjunction with the Company Security Officer
(CSO) on completion of this configuration.

Note 3: The SSAS alert button must be latched for at least 30 seconds before an alert message
is generated and transmitted by the device.

Note 4: The only way to reset security alert reporting from this system is by unlatching the alert
button. The unit cannot be reset over the air.

Note 5: Two LES routing options are available: Vizada/France Telecom (Aussaguel) and
Stratos/Xantic (Burum). Either of these routes can be used but only one is required. Your
company may have a preferred LES route based on commercial agreements, please confirm with
your CSO if you are unsure. However, if problems are encountered with one route, then repeat
the steps in section 4 and try the other.

Note 6: For instructions on removing these configuration settings, please refer to Section 5 of
this document.

Note 7: Please ensure the SSAS device is rebooted* once the instructions below have been
completed; this will ensure that the device is no longer in ‘SSAS manager mode’ and that the
configuration cannot be altered without the password being re-entered.
[*To reboot the device: switch it off, wait a couple of minutes and switch it back on again.]

Note 8: Please ensure the following instructions are carried out when ending a test. This will
ensure no repeat alerts are generated or transmitted by the device:

Push the button OFF > ON > OFF > ON > OFF. You must allow no more than three seconds to
elapse before pushing the button again. If more than three seconds elapses, repeat the
procedure. When transmission is stopped, the message “INF: SSAS UNIT activation has been
cancelled” appears (if a DTE is connected to the device), and on the FELCOM 16 only, the
POWER lamp on the communication unit flashes for approximately 30 seconds.

Note 9: When the button is tested, the test report is sent to the address specified in the lowest
SSAS report number.
