LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 7

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students can;
1. Differentiate facts from opinion.
2. Infer facts and opinion from pictures.
3. List down sample facts and opinion from a reading text and justify why they classify
them as fact or opinion.
4. Construct facts and opinion statements from a given graph.
5. Present a role play of real-life situations where facts and opinions are applied.

PROCEDURE
A. Pre-Reading
1. Developing vocabulary/concepts.
a. The students will find their partner.
b. Each pair will write in a piece of paper their own definition of the words, FACT
and OPINION.
c. The teacher will randomly call three pairs to share their output to the class.

2. Activating Prior Knowledge/Developing a Purpose for Reading


a. The students will work in pairs. The teacher will show a picture related to the
main text.
Each pair will make statement out from the given picture.
b. The teacher will randomly pick five statements from the class. The students will
identify each statement as fact or opinion. They will give justification as to why
they classify the statement as fact or opinion.
c. The teacher will show three statements out from the picture shown. The students
will identify them as to whether they are fact or opinion.

B. During Reading
1. The students will read the main text (Bold Plans, Big Dreams,City Progress) . As
they read, they will list down, as many as they can, facts and opinions from the text.
2. The students will answer questions related to the reading text.

C. Post-Reading
1. Engagement Activities (small group)
a. The students will be grouped into five. Within their group they will share their
listed facts and opinions from the text. The group will choose among their list,
three facts and three opinions. They will discuss the statements as to why they
should be considered as fact or opinion.
b. The group will complete the following graphic organizer;

2. Engagement Activities (whole class)


a. The teacher will discuss with the class on how to identify statements as facts or
opinion. In the discussion, the teacher will explain that statements of facts are
those that can be proved true or false by checking the information given while the
statements of opinion are those that cannot be proved true or false and may be
prompted with the use of the words, may be.., I think..., in my own opinion.
b. The teacher will show to the class examples of facts and opinion and discuss how
they can be justified as fact or opinion.
c. The teacher will again show another set of statements to the class. The class will
identify whether the statements are facts or opinion. If the statement is a fact, the
students will give their thumbs up. If it is an opinion, the students will clap their
hands once.

3. Enrichment/Extending the Literacy Experience/Curriculum Connections


a. The teacher will show a graph to the class.
