Guidelines for worksheet .

Worksheet no 1 is based on addition and subtraction of numbers with plus and minus signs.
Remember sign #Rules are different for Multiplication and Addition Subtraction.
➢ Rules for Addition and Subtraction
• To add or subtract two numbers with different sign remember that if both numbers
have positive sign then add them. And put the + sign with answer.
e.g 9 + 10
= 19

• If both numbers have negative signs then add them too.

e.g - 13 - 20
= - 33
Point : ( you have to place the sign which is with the largest number as in this case the largest
number is 20 )

• If one number has negative sign another one has positive sign then subtract them and
put the sign 0f the largest number with the answer.
e.g 30 - 15
= 15
Point : in the question below :
18 – 19
In this sum 18 has positive sign and 19 has negative sign. Sign comes before the number.
➢ Rules for Multiplication
To multiply two numbers with positive sign multiply them and the answer will be with positive
sign
e.g 5 x 3 = 15
To multiply two numbers with negative sign multiply them and the answer will be with the
positive sign.
e.g -7 x (- 4 ) = 28
To multiply two numbers one with positive sign and other with negative sign multiply them and
the answer will be with the negative sign.

e.g 8 x ( - 5 ) = - 40
sign with bracket will follow the same rule
e.g -3 + (-1)
= -3 – 1 we know that + and - makes – sign.
= -4

Rules for worksheet No 2

Follow the BODMAS rule , When there are different operations in a sum e.g ( ( ), + , - , x , / )
Remember you can not add the digits prior to the division and multiplication. First solve for
bracket if there is any then go per exponents followed by multiplication and addition ,
subtraction.
e.g 5+7x8 ÷2–1
First do the division 8 ÷ 2 = 4
= 5+7x4–1
Now do multiply
= 5 + 28 – 1
Now add and then subtract 5 + 28 = 33
= 33 – 1
= 32
For bracket : 4 x (5 + 8 ) first do the bracket add the digits , although multiply has to be
solved first but bracket,s solution is done prior to other operations.
= 4 x 13
= 52

INTRODUCTION TO THE ANGLES.

Do you know what is an angle?

Angle :
An angle is the figure formed by two rays.

e.g

These are two rays which joined to form an angle.

We measure angles by using Protractor.

PROTRACTOR

Activity : Make your own protractor . cut this protractor’s image paste it on a
cardboard and use it for measuring angles.
