THE TRAINING AREA

Department Function

Technical support may refer to the services which technology products or

services provide to users by entities. Technical support usually offers assistance with

specific issues with a product or service, rather than offering preparation, provision or

product configuration, or other support services. Many businesses provide

technological support for the services or goods they provide. Technical support may

be delivered over by phone, e-mail, live support software on a website, or other tool

where users can log an incident. Larger organizations frequently have internal

technical support available to their staff for computer-related problems. The Internet

can also be a good source for freely available tech support, where experienced users

help users find solutions to their problems. In addition, some fee-based service

companies charge for premium technical support services.

Organizational Structure of the Department, Functions, and Responsibilities

The technical support department gives service by overseeing any pressing

problems in existing account wheter from communication and surveillance of system in

the projects. In this department, it consists of personnels of Software Engineers,

Computer Engineers also the Technician. First, Software Engineers are most efficient

in handling software accounts that needs to be oriented and organized. They also

respond to pending inquiries in any given time whether a device is not working

properly or a replacement is needed. Along with the Computer Engineers, they as

well may be deployed on-site visits on the projects for inspection on installations. The

next unit checks for the hardware of the devices and system to be delivered or to be

maintained. Initiation of the devices and system must be done to ensure the proper

operation which is a job to be observed to avoid any further problems. Technicians

9

are the ones who install the given devices or system that do the contractual work that

includes using the tools needed for incorporating the system in an existing one.

The whole department of Technical Support is headed by Mr. Alexander C.

Facilities

Maxcore only occupies a small floor on the Olympic Building and only has

three rooms at their disposal, namely the Main Office, Storage Room and Conference

Room.

Figure 6. Office Room and Storage Room

The main office room where most of the departments have their desk. The

office is generally the room where employees of the organization perform

administrative work to support and realize the organization's objects and goals. In

law, a firm or organization has offices wherever it has an official presence, even if

that presence consists of a storage silo rather than a desk-and-chair establishment.

The main purpose of an office environment is to support its occupants in performing

their job—preferably at minimum cost and to maximum satisfaction. With different

people performing different tasks and activities, however, it is not always easy to

select the right office spaces. To aid decision-making in workplace and office design,

one can distinguish three different types of office spaces: work spaces, meeting

spaces and support spaces. The storage is a building for storing goods. Storages are

used by the used by the company. The room is equipped with a security system and
11

is constantly checked for inventory, it was designed for the loading and unloading of

goods directly for the office’s disposal and client’s relief. Stored goods can include

any materials, packing materials, spare parts, components, or any electronic devices

associated with the services offered. The final room is a simple conference room for

meetings or other gatherings to be conducted. Some of the models are prepared in

these room for display.

Equipment

The company is equipped with common tools for installation from drills to

ladders, the systems offered have their own training kits for demo, most of the

devices that are also considered for demo are displayed for usage.

13

Standard Operating Procedures

The establishment operates daily and offers services constantly to client while

offering support for any troubleshooting and maintenance for a warranty. The director

oversees the projects and makes the schedule to be done and assigning the

personnel to do or be on the project. The schedule is mapped on a month time frame

to ensure that a project would have enough attention on the requested inquiry. The

office employees starts at 8:30 in the morning, however, some contractual may

require personnel to be on-site earlier prior to the time. Contractual services

especially those installation differs from the shifting in the office. All employees still

have a time attendance at the office, but employees may file for a time in/out. The

personnel must work through the maintenance or task that day which is supervised

under the director’s commands to ensure that the company would follow its schedule

for that day.

14

THE TRAINING EXPERIENCE

Task Performed/Specific Task Assigned

The student intern was initially assigned to Technical and Support Department

that checks operating units for delivery, also answering queries from customers

through a landline. As an intern, the student was occasionally deployed to commercial

field for troubleshooting or collection which involves direct communication to

customers that differs demands. The intern were able to inspect different security

systems and devices and its background of its operation, the knowledge were sufficed

by co-employees by tagging along on actual deployment. Additionally, the intern

performed CAD operations for lay-outs on projects of the HTE, these include product

lay-outs, technical plans and blueprints.

Observed Strengths of the Training Area

Assignments from the Technical Department proved challenging tasks for the

intern which required certain work skills all at the same time observing it to be

performed successful. From different units to be remembered and be familiar with its

operation took serious mindset to be incorporated on how to deal with the tasks. Being

able to work under pressure was a must which the intern overcome by experiencing

first hand problems in the workplace.

Aside from the knowledge that must be stored for the workplace,

communication skills toward the employers, co-employees and customers were much

observed. Ability to communicate well was developed for the intern to avoid errors in

the present tasks given. Healthy conversations was practiced to build relationships

around the workplace and engage in cooperation for better performance on workloads.

Technical knowledge and know-hows were mostly applied regarding the

services offered by the HTE. The intern’s skills and abilities applied on the field.
15

DAILY JOURNAL

DAY 01: June 25, 2019 (Tuesday)

Work shift effectively starts at 8:30 A.M. where the trainee arrived on the time

for the first day in the office. The Mr. Alex Sia, Managing director, formally introduced

the intern to the office and then proceeded to orient about the rules and regulations of

the office. The trainee was then given a desk and was then first given a biometric

device to study its basic function along with a software to be used. The Software

Engineer, Mr. Brainard Pornasdoro, oversaw the operation on the device and then

gave some points on its technical properties, the studying took half of the day which is

necessary as an initial task. By the afternoon, the orientation continued with the

explanation of products and services offered by the HTE. The rest of the day was filled

with new-found knowledge and more challenging skills to be honed.

DAY 02: June 26,2019 (Wednesday)

Casual work was already observed by the second day. Some of the devices

was then recalled first and proceed for some inspection of it. As the day progresses,

the intern was asked to tag along with the software engineer in regarding an on-site

device that needs to be troubleshoot in a building along Ayala Ave. The said biometric

device was first inquired by the concerned customers through the technical support

department, where the intern was assigned, where it was decided that an on-site

inspection was needed to fully resolve the problem. As an intern, the tools were

prepared and brought to the location, the trip took around 30 minutes but upon arrival

formal conversation was exercised with the concerned customer and the

troubleshooting went smoothly with the help of the intern as an extra pair of hands, the

device seemed to work properly by proper connections behind the device. As they

proceed back to the office, the intern was sent for a delivery of a device by the

afternoon. It was his first single deployed task that required him to be attentive and

focused, a brief inspection was done to the location to ensure it was in good condition.
16

DAY 03: June 27,2019 (Thursday)

In the third day, the intern stayed at the office and look over some document

files on the devices and systems that would be essential to be knowledgeable about

for the following weeks, past projects done by the company and the type of documents

done and accomplished was skimmed as the Mr. Sia ordered. The intern also shared

his knowledge on CAD application to be used on plans and blueprints for the on-going

contracts. By the afternoon, the accounting department asked for the intern for a

collection which he humbly accepted for it is still an experience travelling around the

bustling city.

DAY 04: June 28, 2019 (Friday)

At the end of the week, the intern was given a device to be inspected. It was a

new batch of unit devices that needs to be initialized. With the help of orientation on

Day 1, the initialization went properly. The intern was able to test the hardware to the

software by implementing the device in the office system that includes the employees

credentials that was able to determine the fingerprint that was in the database of the

software. The software was able to determine the time a fingerprint was scanned and

whenever it was rescanned. The biometrics system was said to operational and ready

to be delivered by the intern. In the afternoon, the intern was surprised that the unit he

initialized was to be delivered at a logistics company in Tondo, Manila. The said

company was owned by a foreigner but he was greeted by a friendly IT specialist and

proceeded to inspect the item delivered.

Figure 11. Biometric device from ZKTeco

17

The delivery was fine but a few questions was raised about a device and

requested for a newer one upon inspection. The intern had his first serious encounter

on how to handle mishaps. With the friendly communication, all was resolved and he

was also given tip by his departure. Back to the office, the intern explained the details

of the unit and convinced his co-employees that it was indeed needing a replacement.

Noted that his first week was already full of challenges but still able to overcome the

problems faced.

DAY 05: July 03, 2019 (Wednesday)

In the next day, his desk was moved and given a company computer to start

his CAD operations. The installation of the CAD Application took half of the day, so his

superior asked him for a collection in a nearby client while waiting for the installation

to finish. Upon his arrival back to the office, the CAD application was done and he was

given a n on-going project that needs a lay-out on a gate barrier and a parking system.

The door access control on the gate was improvised by the intern and continued on

the commands of the technician that coordinated with the director. The parking lot was

on the underground of the building and a parking barrier is needed to be placed. The

intern’s layout was done isometrically to show on how the barrier were to be placed

and how it would show up on a small space of the underground. The documents were

submitted to an PECE for approval to be followed up by the next day.

Figure 12. The parking barrier CAD 2D layout

18

DAY 06: July 04, 2019 (Thursday)

The CAD project that was done yesterday was followed up by the remarks of

PECE that needs to be edited for it to be approved. The intern did the necessary edits

within the morning and added additional label to the documents. More projects was

then given for lay-out. By the afternoon, a collection was then requested by the sales

department which he humbly took.

DAY 07: July 05, 2019 (Friday)

The intern was free from his projects and submitted any given task so he

decided to further improve his skills on CAD software. The office was connected to the

internet so he used the morning to study tutorials on CAD operation. His superior

inquired him about this and fortunately give him permission to do so. By the afternoon

he was given an UHF reader, which is used in a parking system to be inspected. In

studying the device his core knowledge on frequencies allowed him to understand that

an oscilloscope would be needed form its measurements to probe. The simple parking

system would be simply allow to enter and exit a vehicle out, read by an UHF reader.

The intern was then again asked for a collection of payment by the sales department

that he humbly accepted.

DAY 08: July 09, 2019 (Tuesday)

To start his week, he was tasked to fetch a unit device at Ortigas that came

from Cebu and replace it with a new one. He travelled alone but he managed to find

the building specified then inspected the device. Upon the boot up of the device, it was

checked first if it was indeed faulty. The employees there was helpful enough to give

him space to work around and then proceeded to bid farewell after relaying the

message to the office that the exchange was done. The intern staked his position for

he ensured that the device is functioning well and ready to be shipped to Cebu. In the

afternoon, he spent the remaining hours doing some CAD operations as well

advancing the existing projects to be lay out properly by tomorrow.

19

Figure 13. A different biometric device from ZKTeco

Day 09: July 10, 2019 ( Wednesday)

The morning shift was just editing of CAD files on the project at Lipa, the parking

system was keep upadated on how the architect in-charge responds. The technician

from the HTE supplied the intern on what the changes must be done and asked him

as well on how would it possibly operate under a blocking pipe. By the afternoon, the

intern was scheduled to deliver the unit supposed to be on Tondo. In a hurry, he forgot

the unit supposed to be delivered and was just reminded by his superiors on the way.

He retrieved it back at the office and explained his lapse but then proceeded to deliver

it anyway. The client inspected it and approved it already then as the sales department

orders, the collection was also done. It was an rainy afternoon but the intern managed

to do his tasks successfully.

DAY 10: July 11, 2019 (Thursday)

Without pending lay-outs, the intern followed the orders from the Sales

department and collected from three different establishments. It consumed half of the

day but as he goes to the locations he was given a new project to lay-out on the way.

As he successfully collected the orders from Sales Department, he initially started the

project before eating the lunch. By the afternoon, he pushed himself to finish what he

can until the time out of the day.

20

DAY 11: July 12,2019 ( Friday)

More projects came on a building planned given to the intern. The building

needs an Emergency Communication plan which is the one approved by PECEs. The

plan provides the Telephone line diagram, CCTV Surveillance line diagram and FDAS

line diagram. The five-story building layout was done by the intern that makes up his

whole day. Upon the supervision of his director, he constantly asks about on what to

be considered and noted on doing the layout. As the rest of the office day goes, he

sometimes receives calls which he just simply forward to the concerned personnel.

Figure 14. The Fire Detection Alarm System Line Diagram

DAY 12: July 15, 2019 (Monday)

The CAD project was having a progress and was still in coordination on how it

was supposed to be done. Multiple submissions were made but revisions were needed

that filled the intern’s work load. Still orders from the director for delivery was made for

it was more urgent to be done. The delivery was still tiresome and travelling in the city

took some energy. Facing with the clients are also a different thing for you have to look

ideal and presentable as you represent the company. Collection from sales department

was also done but it was not such a big deal for the intern was getting the hang of it.
21

DAY 13: July 16, 2019 (Tuesday)

By Tuesday, his desk work on line diagrams were checked and it must be

approved so he revised it for further approval. The intern now was able to access skype

to send files to the client. The documents were done by lunch and had the time of

afternoon to sort the files. In the afternoon, few collections were made by the intern.

DAY 14: July 17, 2019 ( Wednesday)

The intern continued on his CAD operation, the project on the Gate Barrier

needed a layout plan on how the server panels would look like. The superiors

requested to revise the existing lay-out from June 26, to be updated and include all the

labels of all the type of materials to be used to all the measurement. He simply had

done the task and finished it right away.

DAY 15: July 18, 2019 (Thursday)

The intern started his day to deliver a unit device. It was a biometric device that

he simply inspected and tried his way to initialize it. The delivery was successful as he

reported back to the office. With the afternoon, and no specific task he modeled a 3D

CCTV camera to be used on any isometric documents. Aside from the modeling, he
22

recently had tasks on cleaning the camera before the technicians bring any CCTV to

ensure it is looking clean.

The modelling in CAD was simple as he can now able to include the right

crease and shapes on the model, he also now improved on how to display the model

available for printing. His superiors were able to glance on his works and seem to be

amazed by it.

By the end of the day he received new orders, but told him just to finish it by

the Friday on the next day.

DAY 16: July 19, 2019 (Friday)

On the sixteenth day, he continued his CAD orders and proceeded to finish

what he can, under the supervision of his director, he was able to submit the necessary

files and include all the labels needed for the project at hand. His superiors are now

even asking if the intern needs a better mouse so he could be better equipped but it

was fine. By the afternoon, Mr. Dedoro is on the site that needed an assistance on an

orientation. The intern was ordered to follow him and bring any needed more

equipment. The orientation went smoothly and took the rest of the day.

DAY 17: July 22, 2019 (Monday)

In an task from the director, he needed a model on a stand of a device would

be. The intern was able to model the stand with the correct measurements. The said

stand is about to be fabricated and used on a project and this would cost accounts that

needed to be precise.
24

Figure 18. CAD Stand design

Modelling the stand took the whole for it required a lot of revisions for the intern

and follow all the limitations of the director, Mr. Armando Alcayaga, Sales Manager is

also coordinated in making the stand and giving advises on how it should be made. He

is the one who handles the account of the sales of the project.

DAY 18: July 23, 2019 ( Tuesday)

Casual work was observed on the following days. The intern checks the

inventory of the devices from different installation system that are supposed to be

deliver. He also keeps check on the sorting and keeping the devices shelves clean. He

continued on in desk with his computer to finish any CAD documents that needs to be

done. Half way through the day, Sales department once again asks for the intern to

collect from to establishments that took the whole day but he was able to go back to

the office before the time ended.

DAY 19: July 24, 2019 ( Wednesday)

Orders from the technical team at Lipa coordinated with the Architect

responded that the client wants the parking barrier to be outside the underground, it
25

was then revised by the intern as per orders and included all the necessary labels and

measurement for the in-charge to approve.

DAY 20: July 25, 2019 ( Thursday)

The plans from the five-story building was approved by the PECE and the

director ordered the intern to print it out to blueprint. By the morning he went to the

printing depot and give the soft copy of the documents, the said documents are sized

into A3 which is large enough and required for an Emergency Communication plan.

Figure 21. Five-story building blueprints

By the afternoon he was able to fetch the blueprints and was surprised on how

it would look like. The actual blueprints contains plan and must be confidential for the

sake of privacy.

DAY 21: July 26, 2019 ( Friday)

Casual work was observed on this day. The intern checks the inventory of the

devices from different installation system that are supposed to be deliver. He also

keeps check on the sorting and keeping the devices shelves clean. He continued on

in desk with his computer to finish any CAD documents that needs to be done. Half

way through the day, Sales department once again asks for the intern to collect from

to establishments that took the whole day but he was able to go back to the office

before the time ended.

27

DAY 22: July 29, 2019 (Monday)

The intern was able to finish any CAD documents for the moment and he was

scheduled to review some of the CCTV cameras on a screen if it was working. The

devices was connected to hub that is the main control of the system.

Figure 22. CCTV Camera Inspection

Upon inspect of the cameras first, each bullet camera were then checked on a

monitor also connected to NVR, Network Video Recorder that has the storage capacity

for the footage. The operation of the CCTV system was done smoothly as the intern

slowly understand how to operate this kind of system. The NVR is specialized

computer system that includes a software program that records video in a digital format

to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card or other mass storage device. An

NVR does not include dedicated hardware for capturing images. But typically the

software runs on a dedicated device , usually with an embedded operating system.

Instead, modern operating systems are used with common processors and video
28

management tools to help in improved flexibility and serviceability. Typically an NVR

is deployed within an IP video surveillance system.

Figure 23. Video feed from the CCTV system

DAY 23: July 30, 2019 (Tuesday)

The intern closely inspected the NVR too further understand how the CCTV

Surveillance System works. Upon inspections, he noticed all the components used to

complete the circuit on it. The hubs which are also connections that is established for

the system to work. As the director explains, the device was a unit to be delivered, and

the Hard Drive Memory was to be checked or replaced.

The NVR was checked by the intern and found out that the NVR needs a

replacement on the drives before being delivered. The drives was said to be in good

working condition as he proceeds to re-inspect it. As he certain on its operation he then

proceeded to assemble the device and hand it over to Mr. Renan de Ocampo who was

supposed to deliver it that day

DAY 24: July 31, 2019 (Wednesday)

Casual work was observed on the following days. The intern checks the

inventory of the devices from different installation system that are supposed to be

deliver. He also keeps check on the sorting and keeping the devices shelves clean. He

continued on in desk with his computer to finish any CAD documents that needs to be

done. Half way through the day, Sales department once again asks for the intern to

collect from to establishments that took the whole day but he was able to go back to

the office before the time ended.

DAY 25; August 01, 2019 (Thursday)

for an inspection in Bonifacio Global Center and a delivery at Muntinlupa. The task

took the whole day where the inspection that took place was coordinated with the

director from the office. The seaid establishment was having trouble on the installation

of the device and Mr. Dedoro gave his expert advise as the intern listens, the intern

was able to glimpse at the connection and concluded that it indeed needed to be fixed.

In the afternoon, Mr. Dedoro asked the intern to do the initialization of the device at

Muntinlupa where it was a warehouse of a restaurant and it needed a time attendance

terminal, the setup was done properly with Mr. Dedoro orienting on the hardware and

software successfully. The intern were able to assist in the ways he can and support

his superior on how it should be done on communicating with clients. The tasks was

done and he simply head back to office and sorted his documents.

DAY 26: August 02, 2019 (Friday)

The intern’s design on the Mr. Alacayaga’s stand came to be delivered on the

site. The said stand were made according on the layout and inspected by the director,

proper measurements were done and a sample device was placed aboce to see how

it would look like. The stand came on a batch of 20 pieces all to be checked first for

the glasses on the stand must be ensured without damage.

31

Figure 26. Fabricated Stands

After the inspection, the intern along with Mr. Alcayaga brought the stands on

the client’s establishment and proceeded to introduce on how it would like. The

orientation took time of the day and the message was relayed to the office on how it

went. Mr. Alcayaga, a senior sales manager, shared some of his work experiences

along the trip and give the intern some pieces of advices to be remembered.
32

DAY 27: August 05, 2019 ( Monday)

In the following days casual work was observed. The intern reviews the

inventory of the products that are expected to be shipped from specific installation

program. He also keeps the sorting test and keeps the shelves of the machines clean.

He went on with his computer in desk to finish any CAD documents that needed to be

completed. Sales department once again asks for the intern to collect from to

establishments that took the whole day but he was able to go back to the office before

replace a CCTV camera on the establishment and inspect the memory of the CCTV

system they were using. By the morning, the intern prepared and clean the CCTV to

be replaced and checked first if it was functioning. After the preparation they left by

lunch, however, upon their arrival, it was raining on site and the CCTV cannot be

replaced for it was outside and the reason a replacement was requested because it

was probably prone to water in the area.

34

Figure 30. Door Access Control Panel

In the afternoon, some CAD files were made upon orders and he was asked

to check upon an access control panel to be delivered. Few devices were tried and

the power supply was from a trainer kit was used.

DAY 30: August 08, 2019 (Thursday)

Sales Director, Mrs. Dolly Sia, along with director Mr. Sia planned a farewell

party for the intern, by the morning they ordered for a treat and the intern was grateful

for the gesture. Casual work was still observed by the day and still checks the inventory

of the devices supposed to be delivered from different installation system. He also

controls the sorting and keeps the shelves of the devices clean. With his computer, he

continued on the desk to finish any CAD documents that needed to be done. Once

again, the sales department asks the intern to collect from establishments that took

the whole day but he was able to return to the office before the time was up.

Day 31: August 09, 2019 (Friday)

For the final day, the intern humbly took some CAD work but it all was almost

finished up and just sorted the documents in his work computer. By the morning, he

took up some stuff from the storage to be prepared on a scheduled installation on

Saturday. Along with Mr. Gerald Hayag, the items were inspected and prepared to be

put on a vehicle. The items included heavy stuff but the intern decided to help out on
35

the work load. The techinicians has also been friendly to the intern and been asking

his help on some of the plans to be done on the projects. The intern has been grateful

to all of the employees and his superiors on his relationship with them.

Problems Encountered

Daily tasks were proven to be difficult and tiresome. From some of the technical

difficulties to learn and understand, spanning to direct communication from customers,

the time-constraint pressure was also present that was difficult to comply in following

the orders to be done. In the certain event of the concerned customer where they

asked an inquiry about a device, the intern was clearly not familiar but still answer

honestly is a demanding challenge. Fulfilling the commands and requests of superiors

was also encountered but it still favors the intern.

Solutions

Being obedient and grateful must be minded. All the problems was solved by

being focused and honest on the situation to be able to solve the dilemma. The intern

was simply just ask for assistance if whether an expert opinion was needed. Humbling

acts was necessary to move forward. Accepting the challenges might be difficult but

the superiors were always there to help.

Over-all Reflections

All the experience gathered are all memorable and would be remembered to

be brought on an actual job experience. Whether it was an internship, a lot of problems

were encountered but all were solved by analysis on the root cause of it and the

moments may be pressuring but it was all part of it and must be prepared for any

situations. The daily tasks to be done are essential to prove the capacity of the intern

to comply the requested assignment, from acts of kindness to submitting the required

documents, this is because people are relying on the employee. Work is simply give

and take, following by the growth of the individual, all is an opportunity to be better and

continuing the tasks. The knowledge, relationships and memories were all worth it to

all the hours given in the establishment.

SUMMARY

The internship program has been about work experience offered by the Host

Training Establishment and in the limited period of time an intern would gather enough

knowledge and experience on how his pursued career would be in the industry. The

internship would render the students to gain relevant skills and experience in a

particular field. Interns capabilities are tested on saving time and money in the long

run. Internships are must be legally arranged by third-party organizations that recruit

interns on behalf of industry groups all these are for the security on both parties which

is understandable. The process maybe lengthy but it must be done.

Internships in the chosen professional careers of BSECE are similar in some

ways of the taken internship, but not as rigorous as from telecommunications or

Electronics field for professions, trade, and vocational jobs. The given position for the

intern vary but still connected to his department of assignation. The HTE was fortunate

for a paid intern in the temporary time.

In the actual workplace, an internship consists of an exchange of services for

experience between the intern and the organization. The intern determined interest in

that field after the real-life experience. In addition, the program build a professional

network that can assist with letters of recommendation or lead to future employment

opportunities. The benefits of the program for the intern may into full-time employment

is that they are already familiar with the company, the HTE offered a position, after the

training. The intern developed the ability to participate in a field of their choice to

receive hands-on learning about a particular future career, preparing them for full-time

work following graduation. It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and

skills by performing in actual work setting. It helps in the building of the trainee’s

competence, develops one’s professionalism in dealing with people and, enhances the

critical thinking abilities and discipline of the student.
