Q.1
a) Imagine yourself as an ESD activist, develop an action plan of a school for
incorporating ESD by taking into account the ways/methods you have studied in this
Unit.

“ESD allows every human being to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary
to shape a sustainable future.”

WAYS AND METHODS FOR THE INCORPORATION OF ESD

1. Embedded the concept in the curriculum in an interdisciplinary manner. So this way

can also be adopted in order to incorporate education for sustainable development at
the school level

2. We must share and spread the significant and the basic knowledge of the values and
the principles of the education for the sustainable development at the school level.

3. We must promote the critical thinking and the methods of problem solving and the
actions in the students, even at the school level, in order to incorporate ESD at school
level.

4. So for this all of us must employ a variety of educational methods and ways for the
implementation of the ESD.

5. Even at the school level all of us must allow the learners or the students to take part in
decision making processes for the sake of ESD.

6. We all must address the local as well as the global issues to the students or the
learners, and must avoid the jargon – ridden languages and terms.

7. So for the incorporation of the education for sustainable development we all must
teach our students to look forward towards the future needs.

8. we all must plan the ways and methods in order to aware our students about the
protection , conservation and the respect of our natural environments .but for that we
have to make several plans and rules and regulations for the ESD.

9. For this we must take actions to make plans to make ourselves and the students
indulge into the methods made for the incorporation of the education for sustainable
development even at the school level.

10. We all must teach our students about the importance and significance of the education
for sustainable development even at the school level learning.

So these were some of the ways and methods which we may follow in order to incorporate
the EDUCATION for SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT and to make ourselves and the
learners indulge into it.
b) What are the student-led or teacher-led actions, methods and pedagogies which you
propose in teacher education programme with regard to ESD? Also discuss how you are
going to incorporate.

So there are many actions , methods , ways , and , pedagogies which can be follows , led , or ,
taken by the students , teachers , or the learners of any level .so here we shall also discuss that
how we are going to incorporate of implement it in our daily lives .

BASIC KNOWLEDGE

So first of all we must tell our students about the basic knowledge including the sustainable
development issues such as the climate change and biodiversity and there solutions.

PUBLIC AWARENESS

So public or local people’s awareness and understanding can be developed by arranging

different types of public awareness campaigns and open seminars for the public.

PROGRAMMS

We all must develop the community based programs and the institutions based strategies for
the ESD.

PEDAGOGGIES

So there are different pedagogies of methods that can be adopted to incorporate with the
education for sustainable development.

1- First we must promote the social equity in the society where we live.

2- We all must ensure environmental protection and conservation.

3- We all must encourage economical sustainability.

Some of the most important pedagogies for the education for sustainable development are
given in the following:

1-Interdisciplinary

2-Value driven

3-Critical thinking and problem solving

4-Multi – method

5-Participatory decision making

6-Applicability
So while adopting all these given methods and ways we can develop plans regarding the
implementation of the EDUCATION for the SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

In simple words, we can say that sustainable development involves maintaining our current
rate of development whilst leaving suitable resources behind for later generations to continue
to develop. In this context then, environmental problems must be tackled by considering their
relationship with the state of the economy and the wellbeing of society. In fact, the
environment, the economy and society taken together, include everything that we need to
consider for a healthy, prosperous and stable life.

Methods

As stated in the Introduction, the aim of this paper was to establish how Smart Classrooms
can contribute to the putting in practice of ESD methodologies in an effective way. The
starting point was the selection of a set of four ESD methodologies based on the criteria of its
wide use and recognition in the literature and by the ESD community as to lead to the
development of sustainability competencies: project or problem-based learning, case study,
simulation and cooperative inquiry.

The method used in this study consisted of a literature review of both theoretical frameworks
separately, ESD and Smart Classrooms, and a subsequent expert analysis to identify the
interrelation between both. The authors performed the analysis and connected Smart
Classrooms and ESD rationales through an iterative discussion process and triangulation
between them, as experts of both disciplines. One of the authors is an expert in ESD, and two
are experts in Smart Classrooms.

The expert analysis of the ESD methodologies in relation to Smart Classrooms was
conducted using the conceptual framework of Smart Learning Environments developed by
Palau and Mogas, which identifies three dimensions and eight categories of characteristics of
Smart Classrooms. Apart from dimensions, the authors pointed out the need to deal with
categories of characteristics rather than with characteristics themselves. This is because
whereas categories are considered fixed, some of the characteristics might evolve and depend
on technological or social advancements and, therefore, either these could become outdated
or new characteristics might emerge in the future.

Each ESD teaching and learning method was analysed separately and was positioned for each
of the eight categories of characteristics identified in a Smart Classroom, in relation to its
level or degree of adequacy (from low to high). Moreover, based on the literature review
conducted and the results of the expert analysis on how the selected ESD methodologies
match with the dimensions and categories of characteristics of the Smart Classroom, a set of
suggestions and recommendations were built to help advance the implementation of ESD
methodologies with the support of the Smart Classroom.
