Board Exam Tips Seminar January 28, 2020 1:00 – 5:00 PM

The topic of the seminar Board Exam Tips have a broad scope. Also, it taught me how to know my
priorities before board exam. First, the speaker Engr. Mark Dennis Domingo, emphasized the importance
of time management. Also, he said that there are several examinees who are failing because of the lack of
time during review. In line with this, a thought came out of my mind that I need to balance my time
during the review. As much as possible, I will have calendar of schedule so that I will know what I need
to do. Second, he also mentioned the subjects that are included in the exam such as Mathematics,
Surveying and Transportation Engineering, Hydraulics, Geotechnical Engineering, and Structural
Engineering. Other subjects such as CE Estimating and Differential Equations are not included in the
board exam. In accordance to this, it will lessen the subjects that I need to review. Third, Engr. Domingo
also presented to us the computation for the final rating of the board exam. In the same manner, I learned
that at some point I need to focus on the subject that has a higher percentage. Fourth, Engr. Domingo said
that the difficulty of the subjects in the board exam varies. Additionally, there are three examiners in total.
One for Mathematics, Surveying and Transportation Engineering, another one for Hydraulics and
Geotechnical Engineering, and lastly for Structural Engineering. Furthermore, the difficulty of two out of
three scope which are Mathematics, Surveying and Transportation Engineering and Hydraulics and
Geotechnical Engineering varies, if the other one is easy, the other one is difficult. With that being said, if
the examiner experience difficulty on the first subject, he/she will pursue more on the next subject. Fifth,
the speaker, mentioned that the percentage of passing in the Civil Engineering board exam is higher in
November compared to May. In that manner, this gave me an idea on when to take the board exam.
Lastly, Engr. Domingo had a game called “Question and Answer”. The mechanics of the game are: 1. He
will ask questions and volunteer students will answer it, 2. The student who answered correctly will get a
reviewer. In conclusion, this seminar brought new knowledge both applicable inside the classroom and
during board exam. Also, it taught me how and what to do before and during board exam. Additionally, it
gave me inspiration to pursue and to focus on my subjects.
