1 Title :

Teachers and Students’ beliefs and attitudes towards the Effects of Social networks
on Students’ academic Writing skill in the English Department at Blida 2 University,
Algeria.

2. the background of the topic :

Within many years, people around the world were living their life traditionally. Using
primitive tools in their lives. Meanwhile, time passed ,Life progressed and shifted to
new ways of living. In the twentith century, within the globalization, new trends were
recently highlighted after the discovery of technology. Internet network as part of
technology has changed the life style of many people. People use social network or
media in almost everyday. Social media ifluence people's lives in many aspects
including education and english language learning. It influenced the way students
learn english ,especially writing. This subject is now very commun among researchers
in the academic field and become an interesting area of research for future
researchers. Researchers under this area of interest have different views. Some of
them concider the effects of social networks to be negative on the student’s writing.
Angela risto (2014) found that social media has a serious consequences on the
academic writing skill of the students. However, Ahmad Ashaari Aliasa, Nor Ashikin
Ab Manana Johana Yusofa, Ambigapathy Pandiana (2011) claimed that social
networks have positive effects and it can be used as a tool to promote the academic
writing skill of the students.

3. Statement of the purpose :

The purpose of this study is to explore teachers and students’ beliefs and attitudes
towards the possible effects of social networks on students’ academic writing skill in
the English department at blida 2 university Algeria.

4. the research rational :

Many studies were conducted concerning this issue of the effects of social networks
in higher education level, but few researchs were carried on this subject in Algerian
higher educational context. In addition, even for researches that were done on it are
still debatable. Some researchers stated that social networks have a positive effects
on students’ writing , whereas others proved the opposit. These latters shade the
light for this study to investigate more on the possible effects of social on student’s
academic writing in order to support the present literature on this topic and maybe
to have a possible answer to this issue. And settling some suggestions and solutions
for learners in case the effects turned to be negative.

What are the possible effects of social networks on students’ academic writing skill in
the english department at blida 2 university Algeria?
