Task and Marks Distribution
Individual Project: Task 1
[Total Marks: 50]
You have to get knowledge about the size, block size, and associativity in order to
understand any cache memory. Using these parameters, determine how the cache
breaks up the address into a tag field, a index, and a byte offset.
While performing your operation, you must use same units of measurement for the
size and block-size. You are free to take any type of cache for your project.
By using the above information, determine the following:
How do you change cache parameter?
How do you design a memory-logic?
Calculate cache-miss penalty and CPI.
Based on task given above, you must include the following contents while developing
your project with valid reasoning:
Affecting the performance of various program using cache memory
Changing cache memory parameter can change the performance of a certain
program
Improving the performance of a computer system with cache memories
A report (700 words) of this analysis and comparison, with recommendations, should
be compiled and submitted. You are expected to conduct research external to
lectures (such as, finding evidence to support your claims from manufacturer
websites, journal /conference articles, etc.)
Individual Project: Task 2
