Coursework- Individual Project

Intake:
September 2019

Important notes
• Please refer to the Assignment Presentation Requirements for advice on how
to set out your assignment. These can be found on the Softwarica’s Moodle
Course Page.
• You are expected to use the CUHarvard referencing format on any written
work. For support and advice on how this students can contact Centre for
Academic Writing (CAW).
• Please notify your registry course support team and module leader for disability
support.
• Any student requiring an extension should follow the university process as
outlined at here
• The College cannot take responsibility for any coursework lost or corrupted on
disks, laptops or personal computer. Students should therefore regularly
back-up any work and are advised to save it on external media or system.
• If there are technical or performance issues that prevent students submitting
Coursework through the online coursework submission system on the day of
a coursework deadline, an appropriate extension to the coursework submission
deadline will be agreed. This extension will normally be 24 hours or the next
working day if the deadline falls on a Friday or over the weekend period. This
will be communicated via email and as a Softwarica’s Moodle announcement.
• You must complete the ‘Assessment Submission and Declaration Form’.
The form is available on Softwarica’s Moodle Course Page.
• Please make a note of the recommended word count. You could lose marks if
you write 10% more or less than this.
• You must submit a paper copy and digital copy (on disk or similarly acceptable
medium). Media containing viruses, or media that cannot be run directly, will
result in a fail grade being awarded for this assessment.
• All electronic media will be checked for plagiarism.

operating systems and cloud computing.

Task and Marks Distribution
Individual Project: Task 1
[Total Marks: 50]

Section 1(700 words +/-10%)

You have to get knowledge about the size, block size, and associativity in order to
understand any cache memory. Using these parameters, determine how the cache
breaks up the address into a tag field, a index, and a byte offset.
While performing your operation, you must use same units of measurement for the
size and block-size. You are free to take any type of cache for your project.
By using the above information, determine the following:
 How do you change cache parameter?
 How do you design a memory-logic?
 Calculate cache-miss penalty and CPI.
Based on task given above, you must include the following contents while developing
your project with valid reasoning:
 Affecting the performance of various program using cache memory
 Changing cache memory parameter can change the performance of a certain
program
 Improving the performance of a computer system with cache memories
A report (700 words) of this analysis and comparison, with recommendations, should
be compiled and submitted. You are expected to conduct research external to
lectures (such as, finding evidence to support your claims from manufacturer
websites, journal /conference articles, etc.)
Individual Project: Task 2
[Total Marks: 50]

Section 1(800 words +/-10%)

Wheeler Energy is an organization that specializes in Sustainable Energy Systems.

Wheeler Energy provide energy solutions across the globe to industries such as
Military, Oil and Gas, Transportation, Correctional, and Physical Data.
Wheeler Energy has a small head office that is in Kathmandu, Nepal. Founded in
2001, the company has total 40 employees that are based in Kathmandu, consist of
sales, finance, Manager, and support departments.
As the company has grown, no strategic plan for IT has been put in place, and
employees generally had their own PCs or laptops that were connected to an office
router via Wi-Fi or some direct UTP cable. Information stored electronically consists of
normal business documentation, together with sales materials (including some
product and training videos). Information has historically been shared using personal
Google Docs accounts, and private information kept on individuals’ PCs. Users have
various versions of anti-virus software installed and administer their own PCs. Users

manage their own security including passwords. Contact with sales staff across the
globe, including the Middle East, Asia and Africa is achieved mostly via email and
less often through mobile phone. To complicate communication matters, one of the
Company Directors lives in Spain for most of the year, and there is no member of staff
with IT support responsibility.
After a security audit, the company has realized it needs to take a more systematic
and professional approach to its IT and security infrastructure. The CEO has asked
you to advise her on some specific points of the network. She is keen to make the
most of technology and the following outline requirements have been identified

a) Explain how the network components should be connected. Identify a suitable

network topology, data rate and the type of cable (if selected). Your answer
must clearly state how your recommendation relates to the business
requirements of the Wheeler Energy scenario specifically.
b) Briefly explain what is meant by the term sub-netting and how it could be used
in this network. Do you recommend sub-netting in this case? Give a reason for
your answer clearly showing how it applies to the Wheeler Energy scenario.
c) Draw a logical network diagram (topology) that shows the main components of
the network.
d) Allocate suitable IP addresses and add them in the diagram. You should
ensure you include the subnet mask and identify the IP addresses that are
provided by the ISP.
e) Give local prices and specification of suitable hardware/ software you
recommend.

For this project you need to do survey and make report (800 words). The network
design should be managed. All the materials cost should be mentioned according to
most recent market price.

SUBMISSION:

 Your report should be submitted online via the submission gateway on

Softwarica Moodle and then submit hard copies (3 copies, spiral binding) to the
respective department.

Assignment Deliverables

 Viva [30 marks]

4
 A Report [50 marks]:

1. Must cover all the information mentioned in Task 1 and Task 2 both

2. Should be in proper (chronological) order

3. Use necessary diagrams and flow charts

4. Must use appropriate references.

 Findings of your report (200 words) mentioning the significance of both tasks
(Task 1 and Task 2) to the subject of Computer Architecture and Networks.
This report should also indicate what you learnt from your research and what, if
any, you would do differently. [20 marks]
