Here at SPR, we strongly believe that
research can contribute to enhancing the
effectiveness of psychotherapies. Over
our 40 year lifetime, SPR has gathered a
reputation for generating new scientific
knowledge and promoting awareness of
us! SPR membership offers the exclusive
development and dissemination of
scientifically relevant studies related to the
outcome of psychological interventions, the
process of change, the characteristics of
clients and therapists and much more.

clinicians and students from a variety of
theoretical orientations (e.g., cognitive
analytic, narrative, cognitive-behavioral,
group analytic, humanistic, integrative,
inter-personal, arts therapies, psycho-
dynamic, systemic) and professional
backgrounds (e.g. psychiatry, counselling,
psychotherapy, medicine, psychology,
social work). Over the years, SPR and its
members have investigated many
therapeutic issues including assessment
and case formulation, the therapeutic
alliance, empathy, emotional expression,
therapist effects, gender, spirituality,
supervision and training, to name just a
