Professional Development
Professional Development Beliefs
Edgewood ISD believes when professional learning is standards-based there is a greater potential to positively impact educator knowledge,
effectiveness, and attitude. The content/topic of study developed must align to: lesson planning, blended learning, curriculum development,
data analysis, classroom management, content deepening, addressing the needs of at-risk and underrepresented students, and analysis of
student work and effective educator practices.

Edgewood ISD professional development:

• Focuses on improving the student learning experience.
• Is data informed based on the needs of students.
• Is aligned to District/Campus Needs Assessment and District.
• Is aligned to District & Campus Improvement Plans.
• Is supported by both district and campus leadership.
• Reflects student achievement goals.
• Is developed with the collaboration of multiple stakeholders.
• Incorporates Adult Learning Theory.
• Provides time and other resources for practice.
• Must be able to immediately apply the learning.
• Must be able to measure the impact of the learning.
• Must include an evaluation.

Early Release Days (1/2 Day Work Days)

Teacher Classroom and Content Preparation
The purpose of the teacher workday is to prepare the classroom learning environment for students. EISD Academics provides
teachers with a standard for what all learning spaces should look like in order to maximize student achievement.

Individualized Planning for Students

During work days, teachers also engage in analyzing individual student progress, making parent contacts, and preparing to
support individualized learning plans.

Fall and Spring Intersession Days

The addition of a Fall and Spring Intersession is to help improve instructional outcomes for our students. In light of the lost
instructional time due to COVID-19 School Closures and potential closures or limited entry in the fall, we feel that is necessary
to be proactive in preparing to close instructional gaps that our students may experience. The intersession days will allow us to
bring in targeted groups of students to address specific content gaps and get them back on track with real time support rather
than waiting until the summer. This time will allow for brain breaks and take our students further into the traditional summer
months to reduce summer slide.

Things to know:
1. Intersessions will be assigned to students based on academic need
2. The intersessions are strategically placed to provide real-time support to keep students on track.
