Save Our Mother Earth, Save us

Good morning everyone. Everyday the word is fleeting. We could have it now and it
could go at the end of the day. As one of those who are concerned with the world we live in, I
want you to hear me out. I’m Ynnah Marie Basco and I hope you would give our Mother Earth a
chance.
Earth is our planet, our home. And it is the most precious and important need for the
continuity of life. And it is also the most precious and beautiful gift that God gave us. It is unique
among planets for having liquid water, plate tectonics, and an atmosphere, and as far as I know
Earth is the only planet having life in this Universe. So we must better take care of it, respect and
maintain everything that we get from it. But why? Why do we seem to be doing the opposite?
Not a few days ago, the Amazon Rainforest has been the talk of the town because of the
wildfire that is consuming it. At first no one knows where it came from but many says that the
fire was caused by the climate change, which is actually caused by our actions. Many also say
that this is an intentional. Amazon Rainforest is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
And it is also the largest rainforest. It surrounds 69 million km2 and covers over 40% of the
South American continent. It produces 20% of the world’ oxygen. And 10% of all biodiversity
lives there. Amazon is home to 16000 species, 40000 plant species and more than 2800 fish
species and 1300 bird species lives there. So it is actually fair to say that the Amazon Rainforest
is really important to our planet. Not only because of the amount of the trees that it gave to us but
because millions of creatures call this place a home. But my speech is not just all about the
Amazon rainforest, it’s about how we value our Mother Earth and at the same time how we
humans destroys and ignores it.
Earth is the gift that God gave to us. But we act like we don’t care. We even called
ourselves a homo sapiens which means a “wise man” but are we? To our environment? To our
Mother Earth? I don’t think so. You see a lot of disaster is happening in this world and it is
getting worst and we all know that it’s not just our nature, it’s actually us. Us, people who
mistreat this world. All life on earth is affected due to the ecological damage that has occurred
due to man’s misdirected actions. Through deforestation, urbanization, and industrialization, our
environment are being destroyed. Global warming and climate change are the major threats to
Earth and all human beings. Pollution is becoming a great killer. We people brought our nature
to destruction. Some people even say that what is written in the bible is already happening,
which brings me great sorrow because most of us today, don’t even care about tomorrow. When
will we wake up to face the truth? When will we realize that this world is important to us? When
we see some people who is about to die because of thirst and hunger? When we don’t have
enough fresh air to breathe?
In social media we shared a lot of post about the Amazon rainforest or what is happening
in this world. We’re showing them our concern by posting about how we should take care of our
Mother Earth but that’s it, nothing more, we literally don’t take an action out of it. If you want to
save this planet then let me tell you, if a farmer sees a tree that is unhealthy they don’t look at the
branches, they look at the root so, like that farmer we don’t have to wait for what others have to
do on our planet. We don’t need to rely solely on other because I know that you know that we
can still save the world. You know why? Because we are the root, we are the foundation of this
generation and to the future generation. And it is up to us if we want to take care of our world,
because ladies and gentlemen it is our home, our only home. And whatever that you’re fighting
for, it doesn’t make any sense, even if it’s feminism or poverty, rights of people or any type of
equality. Hate to say this but it won’t matter okay? It won’t matter because whatever that you’re
fighting for, if us, humans don’t work together to save Mother Earth we will be equally extinct.
Just like some animals that is already gone, we steal the chance of future generation to see their
uniqueness and to become friends with them.
We need to do better, I know we can, by paying attention to how you use water. The little
things can make a big difference. You can also help reduce pollution by putting a soda can in the
recycling bin. It really does make a difference. Plant a tree, by planting a trees you can save
animals to live in their homes and you can also balance the amount of pollution. In this way it
can make you part of the solution not the problem.
Ladies and gentlemen, always remember that we are not apart of nature, because we are
actually a part of it. And if we betray our nature we also betray ourselves but if we save, protect
and take care of it we also can save us.
