THE HOLY SPIRIT IS PERSONAL, DISTINCT, & DIVINE
Above all, one cannot stress more emphatically the importance of coming
to know the Person of the Holy Spirit.
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on
His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. – John 16:13-14 (NLT)
And Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son by his baptism in water and by shedding his blood on
the cross—not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit, who is truth, confirms it with
his testimony. So we have these three witnesses— the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and all three
agree. – 1 John 5:6-8 (NLT)
IV. He Speaks
The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.”
– Acts 8:29 (NLT)
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the
Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with
each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.
– Philippians 2:1-2 (NLT)
Using the word ‘the’ before a title does not take away from the personal nature of the one we’re
describing.
After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove and settling on him. – Matthew 3:16 (NLT)
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the
Holy Spirit. – Matthew 28:19 (NLT)
II. We Accept the Divinity of the Father and the Son Without Question
No true believer denies that the Father is divine. No true believer denies that the Son is divine. Yet when I say that
the Holy Spirit is God, many believers cringe in discomfort.
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? “Then said I, “Here am
I; send me.” And he said, “Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but
perceive not.” – Isaiah 6:8-9 (KJV)
And after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul:
But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s
deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s
thoughts except God’s own Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 (NLT)
I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! – Psalm 139:7 (NLT)
VII. So, the Holy Spirit is Personal, Distinct from the Father and Son, & Divine
VIII. By the Way, That’s the Basis of the Doctrine of the Trinity.
The truth that Each are distinct from one another yet equally divine and one God, is the basis of the Trinity.
– David Diga Hernandez
In my opinion, this verse from Hebrews is the most persuasive verse concerning the Trinity:
Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can
worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect
sacrifice for our sins. – Hebrews 9:14 (NLT)

THE NATURE AND WAYS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
In this session we explore the thrilling nature of the Holy Spirit!
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
– Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
• That’s what the Holy Spirit produces in our lives, but you cannot give what you do not have.
• The fruit of the Spirit reflects the nature of the Spirit—they tell us about Who He is.
I. He’s Loving
You’ve heard it said that Jesus loves you and that the Father loves you, but the Spirit loves you too.
Word came to Saul: “David is in Naioth at Ramah”; so he sent men to capture him. But when they saw a
group of prophets proph- esying, with Samuel standing there as their leader, the Spirit of God came on
Saul’s men, and they also prophesied. Saul was told about it, and he sent more men, and they prophesied
too. Saul sent men a third time, and they also prophesied. Finally, he himself left for Ramah and went to
the great cistern at Seku. And he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?” “Over in Naioth at Ramah,”
they said. So Saul went to Naioth at Ramah. But the Spirit of God came even on him, and he walked along
prophesying until he came to Naioth. – 1 Samuel 19:19-23 (NIV)
• Sure, He’s disruptive to our agenda, but that doesn’t mean He doesn’t have an agenda of His own.
And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever.
– John 14:16 (KJV)
• Believers often approach me in fear wondering if the Holy Spirit has left them because of some sinful
deed or wicked thought.
V. He’s Kind
• He doesn’t tear you down (that’s not His nature).
• People often mistake the enemy’s accusation or their own self-hatred for the Spirit.
There is nothing defiled about the nature of the Holy Spirit. He is divine. He is pure. He is not just good; He
is goodness itself. His every action and aspect arises from the intrinsic goodness of God.
– David Diga Hernandez
But when the Father sends the Advocate as My representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you
everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. – John 14:26 (NLT)
• In the heat of the moments where the flesh might arise, He works within the split second before we
react, and He reminds us to respond in the spirit.
O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the Lord straitened? are these His doings? do not my
words do good to him that walketh uprightly? – Micah 2:7 (KJV)
– He is faithfully confrontational.
The Holy Spirit’s love is stronger than anyone’s pride. He is more persistent than we are stubborn. He faithfully
pursues us. The Holy Spirit doesn’t take “no” for an answer, at least not from those who belong to Him. You
can’t convince Him to do it your way. Believe me, He’s stronger than you, more patient than you, and more
committed than you. You might as well just do it His way.
– David Diga Hernandez
• He doesn’t often shout, He whispers—you have to be quiet and attentive to hear Him.
• Think of Samson; it was the Holy Spirit who gave Samson His strength:
Then she cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” When he woke up, he thought, “I will
do as before and shake myself free.” But he didn’t realize the Lord had left him.
–Judges 16:20
• The Holy Spirit does not leave the believer, but this tells us something of His gentle nature.
• The Holy Spirit can be ignored and overlooked. What a frightening thought for those who love Him.
• In fact, some become so dependent on human effort that, were the Holy Spirit to ever cease working in
their life or ministry, they would never notice.
The Holy Spirit arrives as a rushing wind, but He leaves as a whispered breath. He has an announced arrival but a
discreet departure. His coming draws attention; His leaving often goes unnoticed.

THE HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERS CHIRSTLIKENESS
What was it that caused the early Church to rise and the martyrs to lay down their lives?
What power was at work in Christ and His followers? The power of the Holy Spirit!
…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father… – John 14:9 (KJV)
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. – Colossians 2:9 (KJV)
Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he
gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human
being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a
criminal’s death on a cross. – Philippians 2:6-8 (NLT)
Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.
– Luke 2:52 (NLT)
After His baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and He saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove and settling on Him – Matthew 3:16 (NLT)
• Also, Isaiah the prophet tells of the Holy Spirit resting on Jesus.
Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the
LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit
of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. – Isaiah 11:1-2 (NLT)
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will
be freed. – Isaiah 61:1 (NLT)
But if I am casting out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you.
– Matthew 12:28 (NLT)
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and
healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. – Acts 10:38 (KJV)
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will
be freed. – Isaiah 61:1 (NLT)
…and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.
He is Jesus Christ our Lord. – Romans 1:4 (NLT)
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. – Romans 8:11 (NLT)
While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who
could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.
– Hebrews 5:7 (NLT)
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have
received! – Matthew 10:8 (NLT)
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and
make disciples of all the nations,b baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new
tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands
on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven,
and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them,
and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. – Mark 16:17-20 (KJV)
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works,
because I am going to be with the Father.” – John 14:12 (NLT)
But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will
send him to you. – John 16:7 (NLT)
• The ministry of the Holy Spirit was never meant to finish with Jesus.
• The Word became flesh that flesh might become the Word!
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in
you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he
will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living
within you.

THE HOLY SPIRIT’S MINISTRY CONTINUES WITH YOU
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth…He will bring me
glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. – John 16:13-14 (NLT)
• So much of “evangelism” today is done with emotional pleading and pressure tactics.
• Sure we should persuasively preach the gospel. (Many times, Paul reasoned with
unbelievers.)
And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don’t
worry about how to defend yourself or what to say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that
time what needs to be said. – Luke 12:11-12 (NLT)
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what
he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.
15All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’
– John 16:13-15 (NLT)
But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true.
For the Spirit[b] teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he
has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ. – 1 John 2:27 (NLT)
• He doesn’t just help you process the information; He helps you to appreciate the revelation.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
– Psalm 34:18 (NLT)
• The Holy Spirit knows you like no other does and can pray for you like no other can.
“But I will send you the Advocate–the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all
about me.” – John 15:26 (NLT)
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell
you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he
receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever
he receives from me.’ – John 16:13-15 (NLT)
For no single person is more passionate about Jesus than the Holy Spirit. He will reveal Christ with such
clarity that the reality of the Savior will grow with vivid intensity. He makes Jesus more real and draws you
closer to God than you ever imagined possible. – David Diga Hernandez (Carriers of the Glory, 2016)

RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit has much to offer, but sadly, many leave the reserves of the Spirit’s
power untapped and dormant. We need His power unfettered in our lives!
Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul
and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.
– 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NLT)
II. Body
• Mankind possesses an “earth suit.”
• Your body interacts with the world around you—it is not inherently evil.
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have
of God, and ye are not your own? – 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)
• When you try to connect with God from this realm, it’s religion.
• The Soul consists of the Mind, Will, Emotions, and Personality—it is “Neutral Ground.”
• When you try to connect with God from this realm, it’s emotional or even sometimes “New Age.”
Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can
destroy both soul and body in hell. – Matthew 10:28 (NLT)
IV. Spirit
• Your connection with God and your source of identity.
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love
him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and
shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no
one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s
spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak
words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t
spiritualg can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand
it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can
evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s
thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of
Christ. – 1 Corinthians 2:9-16 (NLT)
• Imagine that—all that may be known of God, the Holy Spirit knows.
But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. – 1 Corinthians 6:17 (NLT)
Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of Thy waterspouts: all Thy waves and Thy billows are gone over me.
– Psalm 42:7 (KJV)
• It’s not a matter of you getting more of the Holy Spirit—He’s all in—it’s a matter of the Holy Spirit
getting more of you.
• Why then must He be received a second time? And is this even Biblical? Yes, it is.
• The believers who didn’t even hear about the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:1-5)
• The Holy Spirit upon you and within you are two different realities .
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake
he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that
Jesus was not yet glorified.)– John 7:38-39 (NLT)
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, “From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.” But
this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given,
because Jesus was not yet glorified. – John 7:38-39 (NASB)
• Remember, the Spirit and all He offers already dwells within you
• The waters that reside within you flood outwardly and then rest upon you.
• God changes us from the inside out, the enemy affects us from the outside in.
• The key is living from our inner source, not our outward experience.
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit –
Ephesians 5:18 (NLT)

EXPRESSIONS, MISCONCEPTIONS & OBSTACLES OF TONGUES
Learn to minister the truth, dispel common myths, and help others understand and
recieve this powerful expression of the Holy Spirit.
• All the believers were gathered on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit moved
• Every man heard THEM (collectively)—thus, they could not have been speaking in more
than one language at once.
• In fact, it’s possible some heard no language, which would explain why they thought the
believers were drunk.
But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying, “They’re just drunk, that’s all!”. – Acts 2:13
• Either way, ONE of the expressions of the gift is the supernatural ability to speak in
unknown earthly dialects, or to be heard speaking in an unknown language.
© 2020, David Hernandez Ministries. All rights reserved. – www.holyspiritschool.com
• This is a sign to unbelievers.
So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers.
– 1 Corinthians 14:22
• What is it? It’s a tongue spoken in a public church assembly, and meant to be prophetically
interpreted.
• What is the purpose? “Let all things be done unto edifying”—in an orderly manner.
• If there is no interpreter, it’s not always the speaker who is to blame for the “disorder.”
• In some instances, the speaker and interpreter are the same person.
• “Edifieth himself”
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray
for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
– Romans 8:26
• That verse is not about speaking in tongues, but it is about something deeper.
For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.
– 1 Corinthians 14:14
• Remember that we are one with the Spirit. So, when we are praying in tongues, we are praying the
Spirit’s prayers over ourselves—He’s praying for us, through us!
• It’s as if the Holy Spirit is saying, “I’ll pray for you myself if only you give me a mouth.”
• 1 Corinthians 12 is talking about the gifts in the context of the body of Christ.
• Every gift listed is a gift that is to be used in Christian community—they affect others.
• For example, the gift of healing in 1 Corinthians 12 is different than the operation of healing in the context of
evangelism in Mark 16.
• The gift of tongues that Paul talks about in 1 Corinthians 12 is different from the one used for self-edification
mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14 .
• One is for the edification others, the other is for the edification of self.
• Also, on the day of Pentecost, Peter tells us that the promise of the father is:
• Paul taught that prophecy was better, not that speaking tongues was bad.
• He’s comparing the gifts, not condemning the gift of speaking in tongues.
But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
– 1 Corinthians 14:26-28)
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
– Acts 2:4
When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and
prophesied. – Acts 19:6
OBSTACLE 2: Pride
• What if I look foolish?
OBSTACLE 3: Fear
• What if it’s just me?
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give
him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your
Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? – Matthew 7:9-11
OBSTACLE 4: Inaction
• Some wait for the Holy Spirit to force them.

THREE KEYS TO HEARING THE VOICE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The great lie is that it’s difficult to hear the voice of God. You can hear His voice,
and be equipped with practical keys to do so—today!
– Family speaks.
– Satan speaks.
– Emotions speak.
– The world speaks.
– False prophets speak.
Then she cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” When he woke up, he
thought, “I will do as before and shake myself free.” But he didn’t realize the Lord had left him.
– Judges 16:20
When King David was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all the
surrounding enemies, the king summoned Nathan the prophet. “Look,” David said, “I am living
in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of God is out there in a tent!” Nathan replied to the king,

“Go ahead and do whatever you have in mind, for the Lord is with you.” But that same night the Lord said
to Nathan, “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord has declared: Are you the one to build a
house for me to live in? – 2 Samuel 7:1-5 (NLT)
Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What should I do with these people? They are ready to stone me!” The
Lord said to Moses, “Walk out in front of the people. Take your staff, the one you used when you struck
the water of the Nile, and call some of the elders of Israel to join you. I will stand before you on the rock at
Mount Sinai. Strike the rock, and water will come gushing out. Then the people will be able to drink.” So
Moses struck the rock as he was told, and water gushed out as the elders looked on.
– Exodus 17:4-6
…and the Lord said to Moses, “You and Aaron must take the staff and assemble the entire community. As
the people watch, speak to the rock over there, and it will pour out its water. You will provide enough water
from the rock to satisfy the whole community and their livestock.” So Moses did as he was told. He took the
staff from the place where it was kept before the Lord. Then he and Aaron summoned the people to come and
gather at the rock. “Listen, you rebels!” he shouted. “Must we bring you water from this rock?” Then Moses
raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and water gushed out. So the entire community and
their livestock drank their fill. But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough to
demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!”
– Numbers 20:7-12
• Jesus walked in perfect obedience to the voice of God, down to the mili-second.
• The good news is that you can hear the Lord with perfect clarity.
Meanwhile, the boy Samuel served the Lord by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the Lord
were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon. One night Eli, who was almost blind by now, had gone
to bed. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle[a] near the Ark
of God. Suddenly the Lord called out, “Samuel!” “Yes?” Samuel replied. “What is it?” He got up and ran to
Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” “I didn’t call you,” Eli replied. “Go back to bed.” So he did. Then the Lord
called out again, “Samuel!” Again Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” “I didn’t
call you, my son,” Eli said. “Go back to bed.” Samuel did not yet know the Lord because he had never had a
message from the Lord before.
So the Lord called a third time, and once more Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call
me?” Then Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling the boy. So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down
again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went back
to bed. And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your
servant is listening.” – 1 Samuel 3:1-10
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. – John 10:27
But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your
Father, who sees everything, will reward you. – Matthew 6:6
Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.
– Psalm 46:10
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you
everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. – John 14:26
KEY #3 – Obedience
The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. – Psalm 37:23
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. – Proverbs 3:6
• Faithfulness is progressive.
• God will speak and not speak again until you’ve obeyed what He’s already spoken.
• That’s why some believers can’t pray anymore—they are uncomfortable with what they know God
is saying.

VARIOUS EXPRESSIONS, ONE SPIRIT
Explore the riches of the multifaceted giftings of the precious Holy Spirit.
• There was an ancient term that meant “to live like a Corinthian” which was used to
described one who lived immorally.
• So, Paul did not want the Corinthians to confuse God’s power for their former pagan power.
• What’s the major difference between sorcery and the gifts? “Jesus is Lord!”
• This, however, is also why you can’t judge someone based upon them being used.
Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those
who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me,
‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many
miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break
God’s laws.’ – Matthew 7:21-23 (NLT)
– Jesus said that we will know people by their fruits, not their gifts.
– Not everyone who demonstrates power is demonic, and not everyone who
demonstrates power is godly.
• What the Trinity does in unity can never be undone. This is why the Bible says…
For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn. – Romans 11:29 (NLT)
III. The Gifts are for Service, Not Status – 1 Corinthians 12:7
• The gift is not a reward, it’s a responsibility.
• Not to lift your name but to lift your brothers and sisters.
• Trinity = Tri-unity
• We cannot criticize others just because they don’t serve with the same gift as us.
• Don’t discount another believer simply because they don’t do things like you do.
• Interesting that Paul then goes on to talk about love (1 Corinthians 13)
• Apostle
• Prophet
– I’m an evangelist.
– An evangelist is not just a minister who goes from church to church—an evangelist is a soul winner.
– Philip was an evangelist:
But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went. Philip, for
example, went to the city of Samaria and told the people there about the Messiah. Crowds listened intently
to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did.
– Acts 8:4-6 (NLT)
– Passionate about souls
• We have conferences with power for the believer, but few services with truth for the lost.
• We have evangelism and weirdness.
• We have evangelism and powerlessness.
• Rarely do we see evangelism with true power.
• Pastor
So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his
own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders.
– Acts 20:28 (NLT)
Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are
accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be
for your benefit. – Hebrews 13:17
• Teacher
If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. – Romans 12:7
– Some people are gifted at making sense of the Word of God - that’s by the Spirit, for He is the
ultimate teacher.
Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach
will be judged more strictly. – James 3:1
– The consequences for false teaching is severe—make sure you know the Word!
DESIRE
Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives…
– 1 Corinthians 14:1
RECOGNITION
A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
– Proverbs 18:16 (KJV)
FUNCTION
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.
– 1 Corinthians 12:4
What a profound privilege and a wonderful joy that you can with
confidence say: “I am a friend of the Holy Spirit.”
09
We need only turn away from the noise to focus on His presence.
We need only to surrender to His leading. He is near to you now—
looking at you and listening.

DEPENDENCY UNDERSTANDING REVERENCE
(INVOLVING HIM) (EMBRACING HIM) (OBEYING HIM)
We need the Holy Spirit—in our churches, Don’t be suspicious of Him—”for only Heed His instruction and don’t grieve
ministries, decisions—we are so those who are spiritual can understand Him (Ephesians 4:30)—it’s about His
broken without Him! what the Spirit means.” (1 Cor. 2:14) standard, not ours (Amos 3:3).

FAITH COMMUNICATION
(TRUSTING HIM) (COMMUNING WITH HIM)
Don’t be afraid to follow His Humbly walking with the Lord and
direction and leading. Listening to His still, small voice.
