1. INTRODUCTION

This document provides the technical details for the chemical injection system for water treatment on AKAL
J1 Platform, located in the PEMEX Campeche area.

Supporting documents:

• Process and mass flow diagrams for Crude Oil System:

A-0-01 Process Flow Diagram- Crude Oil System (R-AH0018-0-714-1001)
A-0-02 Mass and Energy Balance - Crude Oil System (R-AH0018-0-714-1002)

• Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams for Produced Water System:

A-1-01 Produce Water Pump Package (R-AH0018-1-713-1001)
A-1-02 Chemical Injection Package (R-AH0018-1-713-1002)

2. CHEMICAL INJECTION PACKAGE FOR PRODUCE WATER PUMPS

The chemical injection package includes three (03) tanks for three chemicals, corrosion inhibitors, biocides
and scale inhibitors. The tanks have storage capacity for 15 days. Each tank has two (2) chemicals injection
pumps (In Use /Spare). The sizing of the package is based on the following parameters:

Chemical Product Doses/ Frequency

Corrosion inhibitor 10 mg/l Continuous
Biocide I and II 80 y 200 mg/l Intermittent, note 4
Scale Inhibitor 10 mg/l Continuous

Note 1: The listed chemicals in this table are only as a recommendation. The use of a different chemicals
require compatibility test with the produce water as well as doses rate adjustment in the field.

Note 2: Compatibility test is mandatory once chemicals are injected into the same line.

Note 3: The corrosion, biocides and/or scale inhibitor are injected upstream of connate water pumps. It is
important to mention that produced water is either corrosive (pH ≤ 7.0) or has the tendency to form
scale (pH ≥7.0) hardness salts) but it cannot have both properties at the same time. Therefore, both
chemicals cannot be injected simultaneously. It has to be one at a time and at different locations
where it is believed the water changes its properties.

Note 4: Biocides are injected once a week, but are weekly alternated to prevent bacteria from developing
chemical resistance.
