一、Outline

1、Preface

JHD01-BNW bridge navigation watch alarm system (BNWAS) is designed according to the
IMO MSC.128(75) and IEC-62616. Purpose is to monitor bridge activity and detect duty officer
disability which could lead to marine accident. The system monitors the awareness of the officer
of the watch (OOW) and automatically alerts to the Master or another qualified OOW if for any
reason the OOW becomes incapable of performing OOW’S duties. This system’s structure is
designed well, easy to operate, multi-interface, it is best selection for any kind of vessels.

2、Purpose
This manual will be help to the user to understand the function, principle and operation
method, also to supply to the system installation guide.

3、Safety instructions

Before to operate and maintenance to this equipment, Please to read the relating attention
of this manual, In order to keep this equipment in good state, please always keep corrected
operation method and maintenance,
To keep this equipment in normal running state when operator uses this equipment。
To prevent the sundries and water into this equipment, please switch off the power of this
equipment when user to find any smoke and emitted abnormal smell.

三、System introduction
1、system function

The JHD01-BNW bridge navigation watch alarm system (BNWAS) is used to monitor the
alertness of the bridge watch officer, and you can use the three operational modes to select one of
them. If you choice the “manual” operational mode, the system will enter the running status
directly, when you choice the“Auto”mode, the system will be activated by the working signal of
auto pilot system.
The default countdown time is 3 min. when the system begins to run, when the time of 3minute
has been run out and the system has not been reset, there will occurs the optical alarm, the pilot
lamps on the reset-operation unit and control unit will blink on the same time. If the operator
doesn’t press the reset button, the 1st stage visual & tone will occur after 15 seconds, If the reset
button will has not bee pushed yet , the 2nd stage visual and audial alarm occur after 15 seconds in
back up officer room, and the 1st stage will continue to run at the same time, In this case, if the
reset button has not been pushed, the 3 rd stage visual and audial alarm will occur after the default

time 90S,all alarm including the 1 st stage reset unit, the 2nd stage alarm unit and 3rd satage
extended alarm unit will been activated in same time. The system will de-activated all the alarm
units after the reset-button has been pushed by somebody, he system will begin in countdown
cycle again.

Beside the basic function, there are another several functions as followings:
Five way of NC remove-proof reset signal input
3 way NC reset signal input, to connect to radar and electronic chart
Two way NC spare reset signal input, and every circuit can connect three buttons in parallel
Four way 2ndsatge alarm signal input, and every circuit can connect three alarm units in
parallel
Two way spare alarm switching signal input,
One way 3rd satge alarm signal input, and every circuit can connect three alarm units in parallel
One way general alarm signal input, it can extend alarm to anywhere onboard the ship
One way system fault output which can be connected with outside buzzer and indicate
the system fault.
The three system status output are: system fault output, system loss-voltage output and VDR
output, to monitor the system running status.
Emergency call and selective call function
In the emergency call, All alarm devices of this system will be activated to alarm status, In
selective call, the watch officer could select the next duty officer
The back up officer selective function
The function is to select the 2nd stage alarm unit, one of Captain, C/O, 2/O, 3/O
The input function of reset signal of radar and electronic chart
When duty officer operate the radar or electronic chart, the radar or electronic chart will out
put plus signal(this need the equipment has their interface), The BNWAS will be reset according
to these signals and reduce the watch officer workload.

Dimmer on board and self-test function

The backlight can be adjusted to be suitable to sailing at night time
2、System composite
This system consist of the control unit, main unit, reset unit and alert unit, motion detection
unit, the units connection and outside equipment connection shown as followings:

Control unit

Installation mode: hanging and inserting, Function: system operation and setting
The layout of the operation board as followings:

Main unit
Installation mode: hanging Function: Power input, signals input, output, alert output.
The main unit including power unit and I/O unit, there are connectors on circuit board,
you can choice the connectors for 110V AC or 220VAC, The I/O interface communicates the
control unit by the RS232 signal format; to work according to the signal from the control unit,
to output the current working status to the control unit, to connect VDR with RS485 port

Reset unit
Type: JHD-BNW-RU01 Power：24V IP：IP56
Installation mode: hanging/inserting Function: reset input, audial and visual output.
There are three kind of reset unit, One is IP56 for use installation at two wing outside bridge, an
other is IP22 with audial alarm for use installation in bridge, the last one is a button with
indication light installed in bridge.

Alert unit
Type: JHD-BNW-AU01 Power：24V IP：IP22

Installation mode: hanging/inserting Function: audial and visual output.

The alert unit has only alarm function, it is can not use for reset function, you can adjust the
tone by the DIP switch.

Motion detection unit (Option)

Type: JHD-BNW-MD01 Power：24V IP：IP22

Installation mode: hanging/inserting Function: to detect the motion status and occur a
reset signal for the system to instead of duty
officer presses reset button.

四、OPERATION GUIDE
1、The operation guide of the control unit
（1）、Alert status indication
。The indication status include: Visual alarm, 1 st stage alarm, 2nd stage alarm, 3rd stage
alarm. If there are no any alarm the indication light is off. When the alarm occurs, the
corresponded lamp will be lighted
（2）、The indication of working status
The indicator include: the activation on duty, main power fault, emergency power fault,
system fault. The activation light will be lighted, When system is running. When the power
source is fault, the corresponded lamp will be light.
（3）、MODE SELECTING
The system working mode include: System off, auto mode, manual mode. These modes
will be controlled by the key which managed by captain. The key can turn any mode and easy to
pulled out.
In auto mode, the system will be in working status when the auto pilot is running.
In manual mode, the system will be in working status until to turn the switch in other mode.
（4）、Timer and dimmer adjusting.
In the 5 seconds after you choose the manual mode by the key switch, you can set the
sleeping time by the sleeping button, the setting time can be adjust for 3min. to 12min. The system
will enter time count after you finish the setting. You can adjust the brightness by pressing the
dimmer buttons. Any way you could adjust the brightness by the dimmer.
（5）、Back up officer adjust and selective call

There four indication lamp on right side of the “back up” buttons, they are captain, C/O,2/O
and 3/O. The alarm unit of back up duty will work when 2nd stage alarm occur. Press “back up”
3 sec The alart unit of back up officer will active.

（6）、
Self-test/mute, reset, emergency call,

In the stand by and running status, all indication lamp and buzzer will run 5 seconds
when you push the test/mute button 3 seconds continuously, to check whether the system
running in normal. The buzzer will be sound when there is fault in the system or power, press
“Test/mute”button, the alarm will disappear, the alarm will sound continuously if new alarm
occur during this time until you press “Test/mute”button.

The function of reset button is the same with reset unit, it is for reset of time count down.

“Emer. call”is a button for emergency calling, it will occur 3 stages alarm when you press it
about 3 seconds. You could select calling to one of officers when you press “back up” for period
time.
2、Other setting
To set tone of reset unit
All alert units have tone setting. You could adjust tone by dial the dip switch in inner
circuit board.
It has set in suitable position when the equipment is left from the factory.
2 and 3rd stage alarm setting.

The delay time is 90S between 2nd stage to 3rd stage under default, and the time setting is
promised to do only for installation technician.

Please check whether the power’s voltage and the connection of the wire are in order or not
when the system is abnormal, if you do this and could not deal with the problem, please call
service department.
