Born in Naples, Italy, Alessandro Peruzzi was the youngest of four children. His
passion for cooking derives from his Nona Ida, where he would help prepare
dinner. The kitchen quickly became his sanctuary. He fell in love with the
different aromas, flavors and learning the traditional techniques of preparing
fresh homemade pasta. Alessandro’s love for Italian food and cooking only
grew stronger, which prompted his journey to become a Certified Italian Chef
and learn the cuisine from every region in Italy. He discovered regional secrets
to impeccable pizza; mastered meat preparation, including the perfect veal
saltimbocca and became versed in many different sauces.
The culinary journey that began for Chef Alessandro Peruzzi as a child in
Southern Italy brought him to Southern California where today, he shares his
time-honored family recipes to great acclaim. Combining his charming
personality and passion for food, Alessandro has been bringing an authentic
taste of Italy right in Orange County for over a decade through three successful
restaurants (Peruzzi Corona Del Mar, Alessa by Chef Peruzzi and Salerno by
Chef Peruzzi) that both locals and tourists have come to love.
Part of his recipe for success in America is not only how he has mastered the
art of Italian cooking, but his devotion to using fresh ingredients to make the
best possible foods. Alessandro has an herb garden growing at each location
and makes many items, like handcrafted pasta and gelato, in-house daily.
Peruzzi Corona Del Mar even features a wood burning oven meticulously
handcrafted by artisans in Naples, Italy and imported especially for Alessandro,
and this location is the only restaurant in Newport Beach certified authentic by
the Association Versace Pizza Napolitano.

Mexican food in Laguna Beach with a Catalina View. Our food is prepared fresh

local Puerto Nuevo Lobster, depending on who you talk to it may be our view,
our Happy Hour that is served every day, or our fun atmosphere.
Coyote Grill was once a modest little shack opened by Kim Bryant. He worked
countless hours in the kitchen for years cooking food from the place that he
loved visiting, Baja Mexico. After many renovations and building a great loyal
staff, it is now known for its tranquil views, addictive Baja-Style Mexican food,
and satisfying margaritas & spicy bloody marys that will cure any hangover.
Our food is prepared fresh by hand every day. Many of our customers enjoy
our homemade margaritas and grilled fish tacos on the patio by day while
enjoying the ocean view. By night, feast on the fresh local lobster dinner by the
fireplace. Our friendly bartenders start Happy Hour every day from 3-6:30pm.

Ruby's Diner
949-497-7829
rubys.com
The idea for Ruby’s Diner was born in 1980 after a run on the beach. Doug
Cavanaugh had just returned to his native Southern California after
successfully restoring and running a restaurant on Nantucket Island off Cape
Cod. One evening he was brainstorming about business opportunities with his
father, and remembered that he had seen a dilapidated building at the end of
Balboa Pier while jogging along the beach. Although the building was in pretty
bad shape, Cavanaugh noticed its architecture really lent itself well to that of a
1940’s diner. With his father’s encouragement, Cavanaugh started to make the
restaurant a reality.
To enlist help for the project, Cavanaugh reached out to his friend, Ralph
Kosmides. After they obtained a long-term lease on the building that had once
been a bait shop, Cavanaugh and Kosmides decided to move forward with a
1940’s American diner theme to bring back the fun and nostalgia of the era.
To make the diner feel authentic, Cavanaugh and Kosmides scavenged antique
and memorable stores in Southern California for 1940’s artifacts. After
remodeling most of the building themselves, Cavanaugh and Kosmides opened
the doors about a year later on December 7th, 1982. Much to her surprise, the
tiny-45 seat restaurant was named after Cavanaugh’s mother, Ruby.

Step Inside true Laguna, a place that feels just like home: Where else can you
discover a 1920s quaint wooden-shingled house with a flower-filled garden to
enjoy classic signature cocktails, some fine wines and scrumptious appetizers?
At DIzz’s As Is you can see photos of film stars and unusual antiques while
dining on such delicacies as generous cuts of filet mignon, giant tiger prawns or
fresh fish of the day, served up extra saucy. It’s recommended to give your
body a rest and allow yourself to eat. “Dizz’s As Is” not only presents itself as
quaint, cozy and friendly, but it brings a vintage homelike quality to its fans.
Imagine a place where mom and pop would put delicious, elegantly-styled
cookbook cuisine on the table; no time spent counting calories, only much
added butter. DELISH!
Remember the movie Julia & Julia with Amy Adams who embarked on
making all 524 recipes that Julia Childs’ put in her cookbook? Well that was
Papa Marcel Pits --founder and owner of Dizz’s-- before he arrived here in the
states; he trained at Liege Culinary School. Marcel’s heritage stems from
having to wake up before the sunrise and work with Belgium's finest pastry
chef Richard Pits, his father… and this occurred before the use of Fondant!
Making cake animals and cake houses wasn’t his gig. He was driven to be as
saucier and so creating orgasmic sauces became the foundation of Dizz’s 42
years ago, making Dizz’s the oldest establishment in Laguna, run by the same
ownership. During that time, the Pits family was seeking a restaurant near the
beautiful Southern California coastline when the "Hippie Mafia" of Laguna
Beach was finally starting to break-up. That was after a long drug bust of the
"Brotherhood of Eternal Love” and their overwhelming number of followers
with a spiritual calling to drop "Orange Sunshine." (This commune was started
by John Griggs and further run by the infamous Timothy Leary; now referred to
as the Timothy Leary days.)

Over the years, he expanded the operation to do wine tastings, then took on

By 2008 I was making bowls for my friends and family and they couldn’t get
enough. I thought if they like them, then other people might too… What if we
opened a store that sold all my different bowls? One night I pitched the idea to
my wife and for fun we started throwing around names. When she said
“Banzai Bowls” – after the Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu where
she grew up – I knew we had something special. We came up with “Live life in

It was one of those things you could feel was right. But ultimately we knew if it
was meant to be, the Lord would make it happen. Two days later we saw a ‘For
Rent’ sign in what would be our first store on 17th Street in Costa Mesa. But
there was one problem: the landlord told us the previous tenants had left
everything behind and we’d need to do a total renovation. We knew we
couldn’t afford anything like that so we crossed our fingers and opened the
door to the store. What we found was a miracle. The old tenant had left
everything we needed: chairs, tables, refrigerators, and counters. All we had to
do was clean and paint

Edward purchased the Stand in 1975 from the family that created Have ‘A

body should consist of a plant based 100% cruelty free vegan diet.
As Edward thought about retirement he carefully considered several worthy
replacements who he would allow to take over The Stand. A key component in
his evaluation process was a strong desire for The Stand to maintain its
integrity and original charm. He found the perfect fit with new owner and
former employee, Elizabeth "Alisa" Arciniaga, daughter of former local Laguna
Beach Artist, Alfredo Arciniaga. Elizabeth began working at The Stand in 1979
after her father suggested she try and get a job at The Stand in order to have

Born and raised in Laguna Beach, three sisters: Summer, Danielle, and Lindsay
were all brought up by mother Vicki, father Michael, and stepfather Ken. Vicki,
Michael and Ken were parents who raised their daughters to be health
conscience vegetarians and they ended up with three independent, strong-
willed, and successful daughters.
Among all her culinary mentors, Lindsay was first inspired by her Mother Vicki.
It was Vicki's joy and passion for food that Chef Lindsay now embraces. While
young, Lindsay didn't know the impact Vicki's influence would have on her
career. Words like: raw, organic, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and
juicing, were an integral part in the Smith/Stern households. While those
terms are commonly used today, they were rarely heard 20 years ago.
Stepfather, Ken, taught Linday stability, financial responsibility, business sense,
and to not forget to have fun in the process. His influence continues to this
day. Her father, Michael, was a driving force promoting Lindsay to constantly
keep high expectations of her, the restaurant, and the individuals behind the
restaurant. Michael's influence to always going above and beyond
expectations, leaving things better than how you find them became the calling
card of Nirvana Catering.
Lindsay enrolled in the culinary arts program at Orange Coast College at the
age of 18. After her first experiences in the industry, she went to work (in
catering) for Fox Studios, Universal Studios and Cienega Catering in Los
Angeles, as well as in Orange County with Five Feet, Crème de la Cream,
Sherman Gardens and Pascal Olhats. Chef Pascal hired Lindsay for her first
kitchen position, a line cook. Working alongside the admired French Chef,
Lindsay gained insight into what running a restaurant, market & specialty shop
could be like. It was at this juncture that Lindsay accepted the most important
job in her budding career - a position at The Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel.

In an industry where more than two-thirds of the new entrants fail within the

competition, the Southern Californian restaurants, Hennessey's, have proven
to be a resounding success - demonstrating atypical longevity and prosperity.
The company's sales have risen rapidly, as well, since its early days.
Hennessey's Tavern, Inc. projects total revenues for 2011 to exceed
expectations, given the still down economy.
Mr. Hennessey credits the company's success to the fact that it has found a
market niche and not deviated from it, even as Hennessey's Tavern, Inc. has
continued to expand. He said he believes his dining and drinking

establishments emphasize good food and ambience, but shun the flash-in-the-

product, Mr. Hennessey believes, is the traditional cozy or clubby feel
indigenous to Irish or English pubs.
Hennessey's Tavern, Inc. expansion has been steady and closely controlled.
The opening of the Hermosa Beach Hennessey's Tavern in 1976 was followed,
less than two years later, by the opening of the company's second location in
Redondo Beach. Since then, the company has added new operations - from
Manhattan Beach to San Diego (Gas lamp Quarter)- through start up and
acquisition at a rate of approximately one every couple of years.

I got word that this place was going to open soon in Laguna Beach. So, as I was
driving by the other day I happened to notice an open sign. I was ready for
noodles so I stopped in and was completely blown away upon my first visit.
The staff was very welcoming and helpful as I know very little about (real)
ramen. I asked the server to give me something traditional so I could have a
base knowledge of ramen. She set me up with a very tasty bowl of noodles
with chashu (pork belly), egg and spinach. The broth was piping hot and the
noodles were unbelievably fresh. The portion was huge and I could not
possibly finish the entire thing, so I took half of it home and actually ate it for
dinner that same evening.
Kitty, the owner, came out from the kitchen to ask me how my food was. I told
him it was just some of the best noodles I’ve ever had and he was very
pleased.

Chef Alessandro Peruzzi opened his first restaurant in Orange County,
California almost a decade ago. Combining his charming personality and time-
honored family recipes Peruzzi created an authentic taste of Italy locally on
Pacific Coast Highway.
Born in Naples, Italy, Peruzzi was the youngest of four children and the only
boy. Growing up in a house full of girls was a constant challenge but
fortunately for him, whenever the girls were teasing him, his grandmother,
Nona Ida, would rescue him and take him into the safety of her kitchen to help
prepare dinner.
The kitchen became his sanctuary. He fell in love with the different aromas,
flavors and learning the traditional techniques of preparing fresh homemade
pasta. It was there that he learned the many secret family recipes and began
his journey to become a Certified Italian Chef.
Nona Ida taught him how to grow every herb and vegetable he needed for
cooking in his own backyard. She also taught him the methods for preparing
focaccia dough and exactly what it takes to make the bread rise and not
deflate into worthless putty.
His family believed that fresh herbs were keys to making the best possible
foods. Alessandro maintained the herb garden and eventually began growing
different types of tomatoes and squash, all of which would inevitably become
part of his recipe for success in America. Today you will find an herb garden
growing at each location.

those who know us keep returning, and why those who don’t soon will.
Everyone loves tacos that are a fact. At least it is here at Asada. Maybe it’s
because of our handmade tortillas. Maybe it’s our authentic Mexican flavors
combined with our unique Mexican-inspired dishes. It could even be from
watching us create and plate in our open concept kitchen. But we’re willing to
bet it’s a bit of all of the above.
Science has proven that nothing goes better with a tasty taco than an ice-cold
beer. Or if it hasn’t, it should. Either way, that’s why we source our beer from
the best craft breweries in Mexico and the U.S. Our libations menu also

This place is amazing, simple menu done right. Skip the overcrowded neighbor
and discover a nice relaxing location. This is a great casual restaurant next to
the Urth Cafe. My friend and I had two salmon salads that were half the price
of the same salad at a downtown Laguna restaurant. The fish was a generous
portion, moist, with a crispy skin. The salad greens were not the usual bagged
greens but an interesting mix of field greens, blueberries, blue cheese and
oranges (I skipped the tomatoes and onions). The staff was cheerful and
pleasant .This restaurant has three selections per meal. It’s easy and quick!
Service is great and location cannot be any better. Serve yourself beverages for
extra cost for a beverage. It is reasonably priced for Laguna Beach.

coconut cookie "macaroon". They knew that with a little consumer education,
and by treating the American palate to true French macaroons, they could
bring a taste and texture sensation to the marketplace.
In 2009, Rosalie and Audrey began sharing their delectable macaroons with the
American consumer market and opened their first Le Macaroon French
Pastries®. Because of the frequent requests from customers to open a Le
Macaroon French Pastries® pastry shop in their community the company
began franchising in 2012.

For 40 years Eiler Larsen, a native of Denmark, gave a friendly wave and warm

and bubbly personality gave people a much needed hope that things would get
better, in the 30′s he moved out West first to San Francisco then Carmel. His
friends urged him to go south and try out for the famed Pageant of the
Masters held annually in Laguna Beach. Eiler Larsen was a natural for the
production with his long hair and beard. He soon made this little artist colony
his “greeting corner” of the world. The city fathers proclaimed him the Official
Laguna Greeter in 1963. They even put his foot-prints in the sidewalk. Visitors
and Laguna tics alike looked forward to Larsen’s friendly wave and warm
greetings. Our restaurant takes its name from the famed Greeter, Eiler Larsen
and his former use of the corner by the entrance to our restaurant for the
greeting passers-by. Greeter’s Corner stands on the threshold of Laguna Beach,
a few feet away from Main Beach, the Pacific Ocean, Forest Ave., and Eiler’s
foot-prints. We are located in the Isch Building, a 5-arched, white stucco
building, which has its roots firmly in Laguna history. It was designed and built
by Aubrey St. Clair, Roy Rupp and B.C. Mackey in 1928 to house Mr. Isch’s
grocery store. The site was originally used as storage for the horse and
stagecoach that Mr. Isch employed in running Laguna’s only stage line. One of
the builders, Mr. Rupp is also famed as the founder of the Pageant of the
Masters. Behind the Isch Building is El Paseo St. which was the scene of the
Festival of Arts in the 30′s Greeter’s Corner Restaurant is truly on the threshold
of both Laguna and the sea, and we hope, in some small way, helps keep alive
the memory of Laguna’s remarkable “Greeter.”
