Question 1 Solve graphically Question 2 Solve algebraically
a 𝑦 = 𝑥 − (1)
𝑥 + 𝑦 = 4 − (2)
Sub. (1) into (2):
𝑥 + (𝑥) = 4
2𝑥 = 4
𝑥=2
Sub. X=2 into (1):
𝑦=𝑥
𝑦=2
∴ 𝑥 = 2, 𝑦 = 2
Intersection point (2, 2)
∴ 𝑥 = 2; 𝑦 = 2
b 𝑦 = 2𝑥 − (1)
𝑥 + 𝑦 = 3 − (2)
Sub. (1) into (2):
𝑥 + (2𝑥) = 3
3𝑥 = 3
𝑥=1
Sub. X=1 into (1):
𝑦 = 2𝑥
𝑦 = 2(1)
𝑦=2
Intersection point (1, 2)
∴ 𝑥 = 1; 𝑦 = 2 ∴ 𝑥 = 1, 𝑦 = 2
c 𝑦 = 2𝑥 − (1)
𝑦 = 3 − (2)
Sub. (2) into (1):
𝑦 = 2𝑥
3 = 2𝑥
𝑥 = 1.5
∴ 𝑥 = 1.5, 𝑦 = 3
d 𝑦 − 𝑥 = 2 − (1)
1
𝑦 + 𝑥 = 5 − (2)
2
e 𝑦 + 𝑥 = 5 − (1)
1
𝑦 + 𝑥 = 3 − (2)
