Perception of corruption by institution for Malaysia and Thailand

in 2017
Perception is a judgment resulting from awareness or
understanding. Meanwhile, corruption is a dishonest or fraudulent
conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery.
There are many institutions that can be related to corruption such
as Police, Legislature, Religious leader, Business executive, Judges
and magistrate, and Government officials.

e.g: 1) politicians misusing public money or granting public jobs or


contracts to their sponsors, friends and families
2) public servants demanding or taking money or favours in
exchange for services.

Effect:1) Loss in National Wealth


2) Increase in poverty

-Detailed data by region, including survey answers for other


institutions are available from the corresponding Global
Corruption Barometer Report.
-The data shows percentage of survey respondents who answered
that either ‘’Most’’ or ‘’All’’ are corrupt.
-Religious leader recorded the lowest percentage of the graph
with 15%
-Police institution recorded the highest percentage of the graph
with 78%
-The sum of percentage for Government official and Judges and
-magistrate is equivalent to percentage of Police institution with
78%
-Total sum for Religious Leader and Judges and Magistrate is 37%
which is half the amount of Legislature institution with 73% with 1
% difference
-Police institution is more likely to be corrupt than Government
official and Judges and magistrate in Malaysia.
-Legislature institution is more likely to be corrupt than Religious
Leader and Judges and magistrate institution
-Police officer salary should be increase as one of the reasons they
get into corruption is low of income.
-Malaysian anti-corruption commission (MACC) should monitor
Legislature institution frequently.
-Religious leader recorded the lowest percentage of the graph
-Police institution recorded the highest percentage of the graph
-Business executives had 46 % whereas Government official with
45% which shares almost same percentage of corruption with 1%
deficit
-There is about 26% deficit between Religious leaders which had
31% and Police institution with 57%.

-The number of people perception toward corruption between


Business executives and Government official are almost same
-Religious leaders shows low percentage as their religion forbid act
of corruption.

-Government should improve law and policy on corruption


-The Institution must improve financial management and their
audit

-Police constitution in Thailand recorded higher on perception of


corruption by 21% higher than Malaysia
-Religious Leader constitution in Malaysia shows higher on
perception of corruption in Malaysia by 16% higher than Thailand

-Police constitution in Thailand and Malaysia recorded highest


percentage of perception toward corruption as they always deal
with public
-Religious leader in Thailand and Malaysia shows the lowest
percentage of perception toward corruption as they do not deal so
much with people

-Government should reduce the level of corruption especially in


Police Institution
-Religious leader should maintain as the lowest institution involved
in the corruption.
