Tasty Noodle Sdn.Bhd is a company that produces various types of halal instant noodles.
There are five departments in our company which are Finance Department, Human
Resource Department, Production Department, Marketing Department and R&D
department. Each department has their own duties to ensure that the company can
achieve the goal and objective. However, our company was facing sales declined problem
during these current years.

Since the end of year 2007, our company faced problem that the awareness of our product
was very low. So, the sales performance was dropped. Marketing department comes out
with an idea that is do advertisement to increase the awareness of products and attract
potential customers by using internet as advertisement media. Besides that, we also place
some promoters in the supermarket to increase the awareness of products for customers.

We have realized that has many competitors in instant noodles manufacture industry.
Some of them have large market share in this industry such as Maggi. We cannot
compete with them so that sales of company declined. So, R&D department planned to
differentiate our products with them. We will produce new healthy instant noodles which
is Non-Fried Noodles (less than 1% fat), no MGS and preservatives with curry and tom
yum flavor.

The Human Resource Department had to discuss about the inefficient and poor
performance of the employees. It is found that the reasons inefficient and poor
performance of the employees are do not satisfied their job and lack of technical training.
So, Human Resource manager will change the wages of the overtime from RM2.60 per
hour to RM3.50 per hour for employees. The bonus and award will be given for the well
performance employees. In addition, Human resource manager will select few potential
operator go for professional training program so that they are able to operate the machine
very well.


 
 

Tastye Noodles Sdn. Bhd was established at 1 January 2005 as a company which
produces various type of halal delicious instant noodles for all the citizens. Our company
produce halal instant noodles in Malaysia so that non-muslim and muslim can take the
food.

We, Tasty Delight noodles Sdn.Bhd was incorporated at 1 January 2005 in Shah
Alam, Malaysia. After the 1 year of business in Shah Alam, our company, which was
expand rapidly , so that our company bought a 25,000 square feet factory at Selayang
because we believe that the prospect of the noodles industry will continue to flourish. Our
company has our own vision, mission and objective so that our company can be more
advance, develop and gain profit. The company has produces different flavors of halal
instant noodles such as curry flavor noodles, tom yam flavor noodles and chicken flavor
noodles and others. The 2 most popular instant noodles by our company are curry and
tom yam flavor instant noodles. This is because the hot and spicy taste in soup is fulfilled
the demand in the market. First, our target market is Malaysian so that we have covered
the domestic markets in all around the country. Our products are available in selected
local hypermarkets, supermarkets and some sundry shops throughout Malaysia. Our
clients include Carrefour, Tesco, Giant, Jaya Jusco, Parkson and Mydin and. The demand
of our products is very encouraging in those places. When our products are becoming
well-known and proven by good quality assurance and meet international standards, we
will expand company as open branch at oversea and target market will change to the all
people around the world.

Our full commitment toward food quality and safety had earned us the HALAL
certificate from Islamic Development Department, Malaysia (JAKIM).We aim to achieve
ISO 9002 and Hazard Analysis and Crictical Control Point (HACCP) system so that we
can open branches at oversea in future. HACCP is the international standard for food
safety and quality measures.

Our company¶s vision statement is ³To be the world best instant noodles
manufacturer in creating customer delight and satisfaction. Besides, the organization¶s
mission is its fundamental purpose. The mission is to reach the main attributes for our

and care to ensure we deliver only superior quantity and quality products to our
customers. We always maintain and upgrade our production and quality control policy as
to strengthen our control and efficiency on quality assurance of our final products.

provides appropriate training to perform their duties. We will requiring certain employees
go for training to improve their skill in term of communication skill, responsible in
handle the machine and also others.

W, stand for welcome. Our company always welcome customer and has regular
communication with our customers, to know our customer¶s need .to provide lower price,
and higher quality products.

E, stand for environmentally friendly. Our company has always conducting business
activities in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. We ensuring the
equipment are in place that incorporates sound environmentally and safe considerations.

R, stand for reputation. Our company knows that good reputation is one of the company
important assets. So, we add value and delight our customer to maintain company
reputation. Besides that, we deal customer quickly and fairly when they have complaints.
Lastly, the objective of the company is to obtain 50% of market share in the instant
noodles in the 8 years of time.

Figure 1 above indicates the company¶s sales in the five years period of time between
2005 and 2009. In the bar chart above, we can see clearly that the sales increase from
year 2005 to 2007. In year 2005, the company achieved 5 million unit sales. The sales of
company increase to 15 unit million in year 2006 because we do a lots of promotion to
promote our products to increase awareness of products, and sold in a reasonable price.
This is to ensure that we can competitive with the competitors in this manufacture instant
noodles industry. In year 2007, the sales of products had increased even less, which is 20
million units. However, the sales of products decreased to 19 unit million in years 2008
and continue decreased to 13 million units in year 2009.

Since 2007, our business performance drops, we have faced the problem of the
company¶ sales declined. The company profit also will decrease due to low demand from
the customers. This lead the financial crisis and negative cash flow of company. Lastly,
the company will fail.

We have analyzed the environment and situation of the business which cause the
sales of the company declines. There are awareness of products is low since year 2007,
the strengthen of competitors among brands, and inefficient and poor performance of
employees.

Except for the first phase of brand promotion, our company did not have any
worthwhile campaign in these 2 years. We have done a lot of promotion to promote our
product when our brand first launched. So, many customers such as hypermarket and
sundry shops purchase our products and the sales increase in year 2005, 2006 and 2007.
However, our company put less effort on the product promotion since end of year 2007.
Our company focuses on the food quality because we think that high quality product can
fulfill the satisfaction of customer. However our instant noodles is high quality, but lack
of promotion cause many customers do not know the existing of our products and brand
in the market. So, awareness of our product is very low in these 2 years. Our company
does not have strong brand equity compare with other competitors such as Maggi and
mamee. Furthermore, the life- cycle of our products is supposed to reach the growth stage
by now but the sales performance of our products is low as we do not promote our
products properly. However, we still have some faithful and current customer to support
us and purchase our instant noodles again in these 2 years even though we did not do
extensive promotion. This is because they are satisfied of our high quality products. But,
due to the lack awareness of products make some of the current customers went back to
buy maggi, or mamee noodles. Besides that, we also cannot attract the new customers to
purchase our products. So the sales of products are declined.

Initially, our company use low cost plan to produce our products. We reduce the
cost of production but maintain the quality of instant noodles to pursue higher customer
satisfaction. So, the price of product will lower. We can attract the customers using the
lower price because customers will satisfy to our reasonable price. But, we have many
competitors in this instant noodle manufacture industry. Some of them are dominating the
entire instant noodleµs market such as Maggi and Sedaap. The representative from Nestle
said that their instant noodle brand ³Maggi´ has a largest market share in instant noodles
industry which is more than 50%. They have their own loyalty customers. However, our
company conducts small market share in this manufacture industry. Their company¶s rate
of production is higher than us. So, they can supply the instant noodles in several tastes
with lower cost than us. Our company does not have the ability to compete with the
competitors. The price that stated in market becomes the headstream of the decreasing in
our sales of product.

Provided good selling and customer service to our customer is the objective of our
company. So, we need employee to produce instant noodles to fulfill the demand of
customer. Employee performance is very important to the sales of our product and it is
indirectly influence employee productivity. Since last year ago, the production¶ rate was
become lower than previous year due to the performance of our employees. Recently our
employees are inefficient, they are not able to fulfill their job properly or meeting the
required standard of performance. For example, the amount of instant noodles that
produced were 30000 packs per day in last year, but the amount was become 25000 packs
per day recently. Due to this, production department cannot supply the instant noodles to
customer on time. This cause that some of our current customers who still support our
products reject to purchase with us again. Finally, the company sales were declined.

Pie chart 1.0 showed that some reasons that poor performance in the employee¶s was
employee¶s lack of technical and job dissatisfaction. 55% of employees were probably
job dissatisfaction by their employer. About 45% of employees were lack of technical
training so they are not being able to keep up with changes in technology and process.

Employees are not satisfied with the welfare of the employees. One of the issues
is their overtime wages. Some of the instant noodles manufacture in the market was gave
their overtime operator about RM3 per hour for overtime. However, the wages that we
give operator RM2.60per hours for overtime is quite lower than the competitors in the
market. Due to this, they are not satisfying to their job, so, their performance very poor
and cause the productive rate become lower. Finally, the sales of products drop as we
cannot supply the instant noodles to the current customers on time. In addition, some of
the employees are lack of technical training make they cannot operate the machine
properly so that they cannot contribute their skills in the production process and cause the
production level of company declined.

 Tasty noodle Sdn Bhd is expected to seek critical analysis of the organization¶s
planning, organizing, leading and controlling (POLC) activities and seek continuous
improvement of these activities with implement new strategies on these activities to help
the company survive. Good POLC activities ensure that our company will operate in the
right drain in order to increase the sales of the company.

  

The promotion planning is very important to the company. We need the promotion
planning to increase awareness of product and attract more and potential customers. We
need to strengthen our brand equity by capturing consumer attention, deliver messages
that is interesting, timely and relevant. Our department will have meetings among
employees to generate some ideas for advertisement. We planned the promotion for our
company but in term of low cost. Due to this, we can produce low cost of products in
order to compete with the competitors. Nowadays, the internet become more and more
essential to the people and it is the cheaper way to promote our products. Our company
should promote our product through internet so that current and potential customers will
be attracted. Our company planned to set up a website to let customer know more about
our products. Besides that, we also plan to advertise our products through social network
such as facebook and Twitter. This can increase the awareness of our products with low
cost.

It is a long term plan because it estimates to take 3 years times to achieve the goal. It is a
specific plan and the frequency of use of this plan is standing because the promotion
through internet need to keep updated to ensure that the advertisement is attractive. We
also must make sure all the latest information was updated. In addition, we also placing
promoters at the significant supermarket may enable more people to know about our
products and increase the sales of company. We notice that customers are the one who
can directly affect our restaurant sales and profits, so we also need to collect the
feedbacks from customer in creating a new flavor of instant noodles or coming out with
new promotion strategy. Due to this, we have set up some suggestion boxes in the
hypermarket and supermarket to collect the feedbacks from the customers.

In order to compete with the competitors, our company plans to use a strategic to
differentiate our product from the competitors¶ product without using price competitions.
Nowadays, the demand in instant noodles in our country is very high. This is due to the
life of urbanization, which people are busy in their works, studies or businesses. This is
why instant noodles will be a very famous beverage in our country. However, people
known that instant noodles are not a healthy foods and eating it with more frequently do
not promote a good health. Consequently, people start to find out the healthier instant
noodle which is without MSG, preservation or less fat. As the result, our company will
introduce those kinds of instant noodles to target this market segment and increase our
sales. Our company¶s short-term strategic emphasizes the shifting toward the demand for
healthier food in the markets. In this instant noodles manufacture industry, many
competitors have come out the healthy instant noodles which no MGS and less salt only.
But, we have known that instant noodles in the market contain high rates of fats which
are about 44%. Some company had introduced less-fat instant noodles which are still
containing average 20% because they still use the fried method in producing the noodles.
According to Wikipedia, the consumption of Trans fats will increase the risk of getting
coronary heart disease. In order to compete with competitors, R&D department planned
to produce our new product, Non-Fried Instant Noodles contains less than 1% fat, no
MGS and less salt. This is the benefit for our company to compete with the competitors
which use conventional deep-fried noodles. Besides that, our company still customizes
our noodles based on the taste profiles for our country. In Malaysia, µcurry¶, ¶tom yum¶
and µchicken¶ flavors are most demanded. So, flavors of our new product, Non-Fried
Noodles (less than 1% fat), are Spicy tom yum and Spicy Curry. Although we know that
produce new produce will increase costs, but we believe that our new healthy products
can compete with the competitors because it can attract those customers who prefer
healthier instant noodle which is without MSG, preservation or less fat (1%) to purchase
our products and sales of product will be increased.

Our company is focus on the selling and customer services. So, we need to have a good
human resource planning to achieve the goal of company. For the inefficient, poor
performance of employees¶ problem, we must plan for the way of improving the
employees µperformance. Because of the economic is better in year 2010 compare with
the year 2007 and 2008, our company has invested in employee training and employee
benefit program so that they can attract employee and increase the employee¶s
performance. Based on the job dissatisfaction, we found that the wages payment system
for operators really should be improved so we can satisfy our operators. So our company
planned to make employee benefit program such as increase the wages of the overtime.
Besides that, we also will give bonus and award to the well performance employees. Our
company also buys the accident insurance for every operator to give operator safety
future.

We also have designed a performance appraisal to test our staff skills in particular
department that they worked in so that the strengths and weakness of the individual will
be clarified and so as to identify the training and development needs for the future. In our
company, we use the Behaviorally Anchored rating scales (BARS) in performance
appraisal. BARS is an appraisal method that combined the benefits of narrative critical
incidents and quantified scales by anchoring a rating scale with a specific narrative
examples of good or poor performance. After the performance appraisal, we will decide
which training classes are suitable for particular staff that doesn¶t show a steady
performance during the performance appraisal. Firstly, we will select some potential
operators to go for the professional technical training which is experiential exercise to
improve their in using and handle those machines skills and communication skills. This
planning is a long term plan because those potential operators who go for the technical
training maybe have ability to be the production department manager in future, they can
give training to the operators themselves in order to minimize the cost of company. The
training can make a high productivity and efficiency of employee. However, there will be
a training class arranged to the other operators to improve their technical skills.


  

The marketing department manager is responsible for creating interest and


demand for instant noodles through display advertising. Marketing manager need to
manage the change and innovation. In this, he needs to ensure that the way to promote the
product is latest and most popular so that we can communicate and attract more
customers to buy our instant noodles. Marketing supervisors are responsible for
implementing middle managers¶ operational plans. Firstly, marketing manager was
divides the department member into 2 teams which is team A and team B. Team A
employees will responsible to collect all the latest information of the product and
company, Team B employees are responsible to the website design and make sure the
latest product information was updated. Team B employee will update the website
everyday to make sure the customers will get the latest information. Marketing
department has share information and to make decisions to help each member do his or
her job more efficiently and effectively. All employees are responsible to perform what
marketing manager expects. Advertising supervisor has to ensure that the employees
hand in their tasks by meeting the advertising manager¶s demand before the deadline. He
or she also should report to the marketing manager about the schedule of employees.
Besides that, marketing department will enquiry human resource department to hire some
promoter as a part-time worker to promote our products in some supermarket such as
Giant and JUSCO. They will work from Monday-Friday (10a.m-10pm) and salary is
distributed on a daily basic RM60 per promoter.
For introduce new instant noodles, our R&D department has to develop high-value-added
and healthy products that cater to a healthier lifestyle. R&D department manager has
divides tasks to department members. Some of the members responsible to investigate
what kind of things have to replace MSG. They found that by using more natural
ingredients in place of MSG, it could recreate the delicious taste its customers have come
to love. R&D department found that in order to produce less than 1% fat instant noodles,
they will use the method of steam-cooked and baked dried to perfection to produce the
steam-cooked noodles that were air-dried and never fried. R&D supervisor will submit
report to the R&D manager so that the process of produce new product will be smoothly.
R&D manager decided to recruit some new employees by inform human resource
manager to recruit more employees so that operation of producing new product will be
smoothly.

Human resources manager played an important role in our organization. The manager is
responsible for forecasting future employee needs and recruiting, selecting, evaluating,
and compensating employees. Human resource manager has the right for rating the
performance appraisal that mention in planning. He or she will also set the rule and
regulation of company so that employees will not against the rules. For the job
dissatisfaction of employees, the human resource manager will change the overtime
wages from RM2.60 per hour to RM3.50 per hour. He also make a new working schedule
for each operator to prevent overlapping schedule and make sure the working time is very
fair to them. In the working schedule, every operator has average additional 6 hours
overtime in every week. We also allocate enough rest time for operator so that they are
satisfied with the working environment as their rest times are given. A new punch card
system is applied to record the employee¶s attendance and their working time. The
manager will pay for the wages according to the record of punch card.

For the lack technical training problem, human resource manager has choose 8 potential
operator going for the professional training to improve their skill in term of in term of
communication skill and responsible in using and handle those machines. The date of the
training program was set from 15 March to 18 March 2010 at 8.30-5pm daily. Fees, food
and transportation will be provided by Tasty Noodle Sdn Bhd. Training supervisor will
make report to the human resource manager when they found that the employees are not
satisfied with the working environment.

Marketing department and R&D department manager use democratic style because this
leadership style is more effective and efficient to achieve our goals. Democratic style is a
leader who tended to involve employee in decision making, delegate authority, and
encourage participation in deciding work methods and goals, and use feedback as an
opportunity for coaching employees. Ideas move freely amongst the group and are
discussed openly in our company. The participant of each team can result in high
motivation to them. Besides that, group member can share their knowledge and
experience in decision making. The abilities of group member can be develop through
participation in the decision making if marketing and R&D department manager use
democratic style to lead them.
By using democratic, the marketing department manager can get the idea from the
employee through brain storming. So, more idea can be generated and we can choose the
most attractive idea for advertisement at the end. Besides that, R&D department can
come out of many new ideas for new products after they share and discuss idea together.
They maybe give motivation to their employees, and suitable rewards and reasonable
compensation if the employees perform very well.

Manager will monitor the performance of employee every day. For the well perform
employee, the manager can motivate employees in several ways. Our company will give
reward to the well perform employees as a form appreciations to them because they
increase company¶s productivity and sales of company. The award will be given every 6
months and it is in form of vacations, bonus and so on. Besides that, for the bad
attendance of employees according to the record of punch card, manager will use give
warning to them and reduced their wages. If employee did not have any change after the
punishment, manager will fired them.

 
 

Marketing Department is using market control in our management because it is


an approach that emphasizes the use of external market mechanism, such as the
promotion competition & relative market share, to establish the standards used in the
control system. We measure the effectiveness of the advertisement using the sales of the
product and the survey from the public. We will do the survey through internet &
newspaper by giving the questionnaires the public. After that, we will determine the
degree of variation between actual performance and the standard. In this case, we
compare thebudget for advertising and the actual sales of the product. .If the sales do not
occur according to the budget, and then we will do some corrections to overcome this
situation. For example, if the problems occur because our advertisement is not effective
enough, we will create advertisements that are more effective for the next time. We also
compare the forecast of the effectiveness of the advertisement and the information from
the public by doing survey. For example, we will ask our customers that do them aware
about our advertisements and how do they feel about the advertisement. Finally, we will
take managerial action. For example, a new promotion strategy or a new advertisement
will implement if the sales of the product did not achieve the forecast.

On the quality front, the company uses the latest technology and automation to ensure
fast and smooth food processing. Our company understands the need for premium food
quality and this is reflected in the highly-specialized conveyor systems, temperature
monitoring systems and seasoning processes. Product development is also a constant. Our
manager will control all the production of new product achieve ISO 9002. ISO 9002 is
the International Standard specifies qualify system requirements for use where our
company¶s capability to supply conforming product to an established design needs to be
demonstrated. The requirements specified are aimed for achieving customer satisfaction
by preventing nonconformity at production stage. Our company is approved to ISO 9002
and manufactures new products to a number of International Standard and highly diverse
industry specifications. Throughout the production process, our company recognized
protection procedures and processes to ensure that the components we supply are
consistently of the highest possible quality.

We should ensure that the employees¶ performance is following what we had planned.
Manager will measure the employee¶s performance by checking their attendance and
performance of the productivity. If employees are absent frequently, we will reduce their
wages. If employee still did not have any change and the problem become more serious,
he or she will be fired. However, if the productivity declined again, we will take
managerial actions.
  

As a conclusion, this project has given a chance for us to learn a lot of things and
gain experience that cannot be found in the text book. We can learn from this project is
about how to manage a company especially as a top management of an organization.
Besides that, we have learnt more detail about the important of the management for the
organization.

The above report has clearly summed up the overall analysis of planning,
organizing, leading and controlling (POLC) activities and some solutions to help the
company survive. We understand that the management function has played an important
role in a company because to ensure that the operation of the company is going smoothly
and achieve the goals. However, the poor management of the company will make the
company hard to achieve goals and failed.

In order to achieve the goals, planning is very important because it is the primary
function of management and guides all the operation in company. After having the
planning, manager should allocate all the resources in company such as employees, raw
material and so on according to the important of usage. Thirdly, the manager played
important role to make decisions and motivate the employee. He or she also must control
the entire company to make sure achieved the goals.

Finally, the relationships between group members become closer than before. We
have spent much time and cooperate to complete this report. After finished this report, we
have gain a lots of knowledge about the function of management.
