NOKENG FLUORSPAR SAFETY INDUCTION

Welcome to the DRA and Group Five work area at the NOKENG FLUORSPAR MINE PROJECT construction site
1. The Construction Manager is Ian Vorster
2. The Safety Manager is Charlie Frost
3. All DRA and Group Five employees, sub-contractors, service providers and visitors to have authority to enter site.
4. All persons entering the site will subject to security scanning, bag search and alcohol testing.
5. The alcohol tolerance limit is ZERO. All persons testing positive to alcohol and drug consumption will be dismissed
from site. (Copy of Group Five Drug and Alcohol policy available on request)
6. Persons consuming medication containing alcohol are subject to the same disciplinary measures.
7. Mandatory Personal Protective Equipment that must be worn in the Laydown areas and in the construction areas:
Hard hat, Safety Glasses, Overalls or reflective apparel and Safety footwear.
8. Specific PPE for specific tasks must be worn.
9. The Daily Safe Task Instruction (DSTI) is completed at the Tool box talk held by each Supervisor in the work area
every morning and prior to commencement of a new task. This Tool box talk must be attended by that Supervisors
crew and the DSTI must be acknowledged in signature by the attendees.
10. Risk Assessments are compiled for all hazardous tasks; all personnel entering a hazardous area (All areas except
the office) must read and sign the Risk Assessment and DSTI which is in the Supervisors possession
11. When walking on site:
i) Use the dedicated walkways – Do not climb over barricading
ii) Be aware of vehicles – they have the right of way
iii) Be aware of overhead work – look up before you walk
iv) Obey the displayed signage
v) Avoid tasks that generate sparks and flying debris – the person performing the task may not see you
12. When working at heights:
i) Ensure that you are trained to work at heights and have signed the Fall Protection Plan
ii) Use a certified Safe for Use safety harness when working above 1,8 meters
iii) Ensure that all tools and equipment is adequately secured with a lanyard
iv) Only use scaffolds inspected and certified Safe for use by an appointed scaffold inspector
v) Supervision to be present when working at heights
vi) No person to work at heights alone.- there must always be someone present
13. When operating machinery and equipment:
i) Ensure that you are trained to operate the equipment
ii) Only appointed operators are allowed to operate driven machinery, which includes LDV”s.
iii) No person allowed in the loading bay of trucks or bakkies unless the vehicles comply with legislation.
iii) Only operate machines that you are legally competent and/or appointed to operate.
14. Do not leave your work area without permission from the Supervisor and when entering another work area, ask the
Supervisors permission to do so, and then sign the DSTI
15. Eating is only permitted in the demarcated eating areas during lunch times. No eating on the plant
16. Use of cellular phones is only permitted when standing in a safe area. – Do not use cellular phones when walking,
working, operating machinery or driving.
17. During an emergency evacuation proceed, under the instruction from the Supervisor, to the Emergency Assembly
Points.
18. During wet weather conditions or a lightning storm the following procedure must be adhered to:
i) Switch off all electrical equipment
ii) Ensure that all electrical equipment is kept dry – be practical
iii) Make the work area safe
iv) Follow the Supervisors instructions and move to a SAFE area.
v) Avoid muddy areas and puddles of water.
vi) Walk – DO NOT RUN
19. Do not interfere with wild animals and vegetation; call your Supervisor when in doubt.
20. Read the information on the SMI boards at the work areas.
21. Read the attached NIGHT TIME TRAVELLING WARNING
