1. To be able to identify and define the apparatuses and devices inside the testing
laboratory.
2. To become acquainted with the proper usages and functions of the materials.
3. To know the locations of the of the different equipment in the testing laboratory.

This introduction is vital as it would increase the awareness of the students of the proper
conduct and behavior while inside the laboratory.

PROCEDURE

1. Go as a group to inspect the testing laboratory. It is required not to be alone when going
inside the laboratory.
2. Ask the staff member to show you the different devices that are used for this course.
3. Take photos of the different apparatuses found inside the testing laboratory.
4. Draw a rough sketch of the laboratory while you are inside.
5. Use this sketch as a basis when you make the final sketch in AutoCAD.
6. Research the uses of the different materials found inside the laboratory using the
internet or books.

Description & Function

a device for separating wanted elements from unwanted material
or for characterizing the particle size distribution of a sample,
typically using a woven screen such as a mesh or net or metal

to expose the sample to all the openings in a sieve in a manner that

will expedite the passing of particles smaller than the openings

Stack of Sieves

An appliance used to determine the liquid limit of a soil. It consists

of a brass dish, handle, and cam mounted on a hard rubber base.
Used to determine the moisture content at which clay soils pass
from a plastic to a liquid state.

 A beaker is a glass container with a flat bottom that scientists use
to hold liquids.

A volumetric flask is a type of laboratory glassware used to prepare

solutions. A volumetric flask is a flat bottomed bulb with a
elongated neck calibrated to hold a set volume at a mark on the
neck. The flask may also be called a graduated flask or measuring
flask because its mark specifies a precise volume measurement.

REMARKS/ANALYSIS

We were asked to determine and take pictures of the different types of equipment/
apparatuses that are found inside the testing laboratory and I have observed that some of the
materials were dusty, old and uncleaned but most of them are still functioning and usable. Also,

 while roaming around the laboratory, I noticed that it is not organized and needs to be cleaned
for conducive testing.

CONCLUSION

With this activity, I therefore conclude that I need to familiarize and know the basic uses
of the apparatuses found inside the laboratory so that I will be able to complete the upcoming
tasks/experiments properly and safely. Also, being knowledgeable of the place and equipment,
I may be able to choose the best equipment for the different experiments.
