Nozzle Names
Names of nozzles start generally with the name of the
manufacturer, for example agrotop. The first letters in
a nozzle name refer to a specific type of nozzle. For
example TDAM represents TurboDrop AirMix.
The specific nozzle type code is followed by the
spray angle that a nozzle produces. In most cases this
Nozzle name: agrotop TDAM-110-03
would be 110 for a 110º angle but there are also, for
example, 65, 80 or OC-codes (i.e. off-centre). agrotop = manufacturer
The next code number represents the standard size of TDAM = AirMix®
the nozzle. The size is determined by the spray volume
that a nozzle puts out at 2.8 bar. For example, a XR 110 = 110° spray angle
TeeJet nozzle 02 size means that the nozzle puts out 03 = size (0.3 gallons/min at 2.8 bar)
0.2 gallons/min (= flow rate of 0.75 L/min). A 04 sized
nozzle has a flow rate of 0.4 gallons/min. Different
type nozzles of the same size may produce completely
different spray qualities but they will have the same
flow rate per minute.
Any letters behind the size-code indicate that different
versions of the nozzle are available with different
orifice materials. For example, VK stands for ceramic,
VS for steel, VP for polymer.

Conversion Rate
The flow rates for the ALBUZ EXA and ESI are given for water. Liquid fertiliser has a very different viscosity and a conversion factor must be used to find the correct flow rate.
(approximately 1.1 for a density of 1.2, 1.15 for a density of 1.3 and 1.2 for a density of 1.4). For example, if using a liquid nitrogen product with the density of 1.3 and the
desired flow rate is 2 L/min, the correct value to look for in the table would be 2.3 L/min (1.15 (factor) x 2 L/min).

Top Tips for Drift Reduction
Spray Drift is a major concern in most agricultural areas today. The presence of sensitive areas located within
close proximity to the spray target area introduces the possibility of off-target deposition. It is more important
than ever that the agricultural industry demonstrates responsible chemical usage to reduce the need for severe
application restrictions.

Step 2: calculation of nozzle flowrate
At first it is necessary to work out what the nozzle output should be. The nozzles can then be checked to see if they are delivering
the flow rate they are supposed to deliver. For this calculation three things need to be determined:
1) What is the preferred application speed (already measured)
2) What is the preferred water rate per ha
3) What is the nozzle spacing on the rig application VoluMe

Total Flow (L/min) ‹—› Single Nozzle Flow (L/min)
To obtain single nozzle flow rates simply divide the Total Flow/min by the numbers of nozzles per row.
For example, having 24 nozzles per row and spraying 36 L/min requires a nozzle size that delivers a flowrate1.5 L/min.
Formula: Total output L/min = no of nozzles x single nozzle output • Single nozzle output = Total output ÷ no of nozzles
